So this person was concerned over 4 points when they or someone in their party was being medevaced off the ship. I think my priorities are different then this persons

The cruise ended in Barcelona on 5/7/18, we were in the Loyalty line on Anthem on 5/31/18 because the points had not been added to our C&A accounts, got me one higher level with the additional 15 points.  She claimed she was the one who had been flown off the ship in April.

What does having trip insurance have to do with getting with CA points?

Nothing, but that question had already been answered by several others so no need to repeat. OP was complaining that they were out a lot of money and didn’t even get points. I was just pointing out that if they had chosen to get insurance they would not be out any money.

Is the opposite situation also true?  If you sail on a free cruise (e.g. reached sufficient C&A points or got it through the casino) do you get points for that cruise?

The rule used to be that if you sailed totally free, you got no points.  However, if you paid anything at all (over and above the taxes), then you got points.  Fo example, if you got a free cruise in a balcony, but you sailed in a JS and had to pay the difference.

We had a recent Pinnacle report that they got points for their free cruise (the one for 700 points).

I have seen where if the ship is pretty much completely sold out and they need cabins, even though you canceled they will allow you to use to use the money you paid for the cancelled cruise to switch to another ship and sailing date at a future time.

Absolutely nothing. But it gives a person a chance to go off topic.

Now,  let's talk about tipping.......😉

Agree with all of the above. If you do not sail, you do not get points. Had you chosen to get insurance, you would be out nothing, but that was your choice.

Wrong.  He would be out the cost of the insurance!  And for those of us that travel ten to twelve times a year, the cost of the insurance is substantial, and therefore, usually not a good investment.

Agreed.  You cancelled so why should you get points and  anything other than the port fees back?  Same as airlines, hotels, concert or sports game tickets - don't use you are out the whole cost including taxes.

I think almost everyone who has ever left a cruise early will report that they got full points, including 3 times myself.

Some situations different. A shortened cruise for many reasons people have got all, but some have got less points for not completing their cruise. Supposed to be actual completed nites though some get all anyway awarded anyway if lucky

I don’t think there’s any luck. The only time in recent years I have read reported here for folks not getting the full points is when the sailing itself is shortened (weather, mechanical, etc) and even then it’s a toss up whether you get the full scheduled sailing points.

Yes but I have read on here where other reasons people did not get full points, which is the policy. Those that do is why I said Luck. Nothing is 100% with Royal

Yep, Laura, and I 😉, got 7 days worth of points for a cruise impacted by Irma

I think the part the OP is overlooking is what Royal DIDN'T get when he cancelled last minute.  Royal makes money booking cruises. But it also makes money on board.  This is why there is a single supplement.  Fewer people on board means less revenue generating potential.  Think of C&A as a loyalty reward for SAILING with Royal, not for buying the cruise.  Their upside is almost entirely predicated on on revenue generation in addition to sales.

I had to leave our first cruise early due to a medical issue with my Mother, and to help my Dad with things (they were 87 at the time).

I got full points for the cruise, even though I left early.

The insurance statement was accurate. If thev OP had insurance, the original post would not be an issue.

We we had to cancel a cruise a week or so prior to sailing due to medical issues and received a FULL  refund. We had the simple RCCL insurance. We had to provide a lot of medical paperwork and we waited a few weeks for the refund.

Back to the OP -sorry you had to cancel for medical issues.

Can you imagine if you could book a cruise, pay, not sail and get the points!  That would be a great plan for those who have expensive travel to get to a port or can’t get away but want a few points. I guess that would be buying points.   Sometimes the travel is more expensive than the cruise.   We are 3 points from the next level. It would have been great to book a cheap inside cabin on a 3 night cruise and not actually cruise rather than incur expensive air travel, ground transportation, pre cruise hotel,  time away from work, pet boarding, etc.

To add if you purchased  third party travel insurance during the cancel for any reason period you would only be out the cost of the insurance plan. Do this enough times and you could be a D+ on your first actual sailing.
