Error in Deluxe Beverage package pricing?

I sail NCL a lot and it is cheaper to buy a 2nd cabin then purchase the plan outright so I stand by original post.

Tell me though....how many times have you paid for it outright?

I'm not interested in arguing, thanks.

Facts are facts and

"NCL has been charging $138.60 per person for 7 day sailings for a long time"

is an untrue statement, period.

Enjoy the rest of your day. 🙂

This whole thing has definitely opened my eyes to the less than 100% accuracy of their site.  Beverage package faux paux aside, having taken 4 Princess cruises and this being my first time on RCI - this stock market cruise planner is just crazy town.  This whole incident has opened my eyes to the fact that I need to be very careful with that planner, watch it often, and maintain my own log of what's a good deal and what's not.  What I mean by that is I don't trust their "25% off", "20% off", logos anymore.  It's different...but it's fine....I'll reserve judgment on RCI until it's all said and done after disembarkation and I have a full picture, but this is an interesting start....I certainly have an eyebrow raised as I go forward.

This has been posted a 100 times on RCI's twitter page and they are still saying they are not going to honor it.

What has Twitter got to do with this ?? It hadn’t been posted here in its entirety that I saw. Calm down,  no one has bothered you.

A more general question. Should things like the drink package and the key show up in the calendar under cruise planner.I see them on my order history but nowhere else.  I really dislike the website. It is tricky for a first time to see things.

I wish I could help you but I don’t know that either! It’s only my 3rd cruise and our cruises are all a few years apart so it’s like brand new research every time I book. Everything changes!

A friend just texted me these screen shots regarding a conversation about this at the official RCL FB site - FYI

The second screen shot is of my conversation with Royal, trying to get clarification.  You can see that they said the rate would be honored but then that same person reached out to me later and apologized saying it would now not be honored.  That's what irritated me, the backtracking.  But oh well, still cruisin'!

And I stand by my quote of $138.60 since that is what everyone pays.

Have a nice day!

I actually just called them to confirm and it may or may not show. That was helpful. 🙂  She said though that everything is showing as all set on their end so I will take that.

Yes! I remember much earlier on the thread someone posting the initial question. I also find it irritating the refusal to do what similar companies have done; just own up to your mistake and deal with it.  It is laughable to think that this would have any real negative financial impact on them, they probably made a lot more money than they would’ve made otherwise since they had people like me buy it and we never would have otherwise!

I am not quite sure why people in here today are generally irritable though, although not far from how it usually is I suppose - some people are on perpetual attack mode 🐅

I have to get back to work, no more time for posting. But time will tell either way. But it’s been a weird episode for sure!

Still getting different responses. Royal hasn’t even issued a statement. The only way they are responding is if you ask them. Afraid of the backlash. It’s a shame they aren’t honoring the price they posted. I was loyal to royal but they aren’t loyal to me.

Oh bless your heart!

Price for my son on our next cruise (where it's absolutely NOT cheaper to purchase a second cabin for him alone, btw).

That is my current worry.  We had it for $44/day and cancelled and rebooked over the phone for the $18 price.  Agent checked and said it was a special deal.

That would be an issue I would not be happy with. I personally don’t have any cruises that fell into the $18 price. We always get the packages in the beginning and then watch for price drops. $44 is a good price based on normal sales. If I had one booked at that price ($44), i’m not really sure what I would have done.

I missed some of this conversation, however you can't really compare a single person cabin quote to a two person cabin quote.  I have in the past been able to book a second cabin with the drink package free for guests 3/4, cheaper than buying them the package and sharing a cabin for 4.  Not to mention NCL has the smallest cabins, except for suites.

You could look however at a single solo rate cabin, that does throw in the package, and often the slight bit extra would allow you to have more room, and not really be all that more in cost than buying the 3rd drink package.

My thought is just sit back and relax, I see people getting all upset and jumping ship and being mean and rude and nothing official has come from Royal. By official I mean an email or phone call or a public statement. People are getting all upset by responses from agents on social media who really know only a tad bit more than we do. They have probably been given a script to say until the higher ups get out of meetings discussing what they need to do.

I am still showing the package on my account and until I see it removed or get something official I am not going to get all worked up. And really won't get worked up if they don't honor it. When I purchased it I was pretty sure it was a glitch but thought let's give it a try and see if it sticks.

Ours doesn't say cancelled, yet.

Reality: We ALL knew it was an error on RC's part. We ALL selfishly, and hurriedly, tried to take advantage of that error, as I did. We ALL knew it was too good to be true and yet we bash RC for an honest mistake. I'm disappointed, sure, but I understand reality, also.

That about sums it up.  I was thankful to get the $46 rate for my cruise in November.

My drink package never shows in my calendar, just my order history.  Whenever I buy the package, I print out the order history showing I bought it and attach that to the email confirmation I get from Royal

Right now all the packages I purchased yesterday at the low price are still showing up in my history.

I am VERY close to 70 years old and I dealt with hundreds of corporate customer "circuses".  I have time to fuss at them and I have to be in the right frame of mind and MOST of the time there is some sort of mutual resolutions that are satisfactory to both company and me.

My old adage that I say to Customer service reps is "don't be penny wise, pound foolish".

We dont cruise often, in fact this is only the second cruise we have taken since the drink packages were offered.  I called RCCL to book because we already had the $44 drink package reserved.  I asked the rep who put me on hold to check if the $18 was a valid price and he said it was a special offer.  I bought it and cancelled my $44 package.  I honestly thought it was a special deal.  I had heard to watch for price decreases so that's what I did.  It will break my heart (and honestly DH's too) if the rescind and dont honor the price we paid.

If you cancel something in your cruise planner do you get a confirmation email?  If so I suppose if and when they start cancelling these packages folks will start to get confirmation emails.

Royal Caribbean twitter says  they will send out emails in 3-4 hours.

Good luck trying to get your $44 package back when the $18 one gets cancelled.

For many, it's not the "honest mistake" that people are bashing Royal for; it's the way they handled the situation after the fact. It's like United and the Dr. Dao incident; most people weren't worked up that the flight was overbooked and somebody got bumped; that happens all the time. People got upset that he was removed after boarding, and that United escalated it by calling police who used force.

In this case the initial mistake was compounded by the fact that Royal:

1) Was advertising the rate via phone, social media, and website

2) Social media and phone reps were saying that it was a valid sale

3) Once it was revealed as a mistake, phone and social media reps were saying it would be honored

4) Royal took a very long time to fix the mistake on the website

5) THEN, Royal started to delete all their social media posts saying it would be honored and backtracked, telling people it wouldn't be honored

6) When people pointed out screenshots of Royal saying it would be honored, Royal responded kinda condescendingly with messages like they were sorry for any confusion and to read the fine print.

For me, I went in fully expecting it to be cancelled and refunded. I'm not upset at all if they do end up cancelling it. But I am really put off by the way they handled the situation after the fact. It won't stop me from sailing on Royal in the future and I won't cancel any of my cruises, but I am definitely disappointed in the way they handled this situation.

There's a right way and a wrong way to recover from a mistake. Royal chose the worst way possible.
