I finally got to see my surgeon with my MRI results from 9th December.  I have a bulge at L4/5 and another one at L2/3 with nerve impingement and spinal stenosis.  The joys of aging.  He thinks my problem with the hip are both my back and soft tissue injury at the hip.  Not much he can do about either!!

 

It's still blowing a gale and periods of rain down here, but think we got away lightly here in South Devon compared to Cornwall, North Devon and Wales.

The trees I mentioned in reply to Harry are eucalyptus, and very bendy.  Doubt they will crack and snap the way I've seen some on tv recently.  When the tree chap came round to price up cutting them back he said oh maybe the neighbour likes the wildlife.  I said that I hadn't seen any Koalas in there!

All in tact here which is amazing given every other windy day something has broken or fallen. 

 

Had a zoom check with the specialist nurse and I can drive again from Monday although not sure I either need or want to so will just see how it goes. 

 

 

Low riders are capitalising on no word of walkies and somewhat bemused that 2 of them  got blown over yesterday in the yard. Molly had declined to exit the house so she escaped that event. I found it amusing and worrying in case they were traumatised. I should have known better they found it great fun.

 

Had to have a smile today. Rotary here are doing a drive for the Venue in Holt where they provide a free lunch every Thursday. The fund raiser will involve "boxes" that will be made up from donated items that folks buy a raffle ticket for. it usually does very well so high hopes for this year post mainstream covid. After the usual fortnightly lunch on Tuesday there will be a meeting to organise this. Just made me think of the "hun".

Spot on. We’d sent a similar warning letter to our neighbour, and it absolutely saved the day. His solicitors initially resisted our insurers’ claim, but as soon as the copy of the warning letter was produced they caved in immediately and settled. That in turn got rid of the hefty premium increase we’d otherwise have suffered.

 

I spent a lot of time on tree legislation after it happened, and did discover a way of getting the local authority to serve a notice in respect of the remaining trees. Not straightforward, because it’s legislation they don’t like using, but it worked.

Someone seems to be telling porkies.  Cunard say the above, but our Agent says it's covid related.  I'm inclined to believe Cunard.  We only paid up two days ago.  Surely the cancellation must have been in the pipeline then.

Both are correct. QV is currently in the Caribbean taking off-loaded covid-positive passengers from other Cunard and P&O ships out there.

Yes, I am afraid that eucalyptus are one species quite likely to snap - we had one, here when we arrived, which did just that.  Luckily not near anyone's property.

I love eucalyptus but I keep mine well pruned as my husband is averse to anything that may block our view of the farmland at the bottom of the garden. When Peel Holdings start building on it he may change his mind!

Well what strange weather we are having!! Snow this morning and now snow gone and beautiful sunshine and not a cloud in the sky. Just been out for a lovely walk with our dogs, really pleasant in the sun, even had my sunglasses on😎

I don't suppose its any consolation😉but it is lovely and sunny here, we have just had to come in from our perch near the pool as we were frying. We did however have a couple of minutes of light drizzle this morning as we were walking around the harbour. First bit of wet stuff we have experienced, apart from the swimming pool of course😈. Hope everyone is OK and staying safe.

The snow flakes were the size of prawn crackers! Shame it didn't stick as it would have looked far prettier instead of this grey, gloomy weather. Its been a horrible few months weather wise.

I am just hoping our little home from home is still a caravan not a boat ...

The weather forecasts the last few days have astounded me. Front page news about wind, snow etc which is fairly normal here and seldom merits a tiny paragraph on the BBC news.

 

I sincerely hope all those folks in the red area of the south west are safe and well however it does not rate a mention on the news when “red” happens up here.

I can't see why not. We have a travel Rummikub game that we take onboard with us . We play it in the card/games room, but people sit and read or do puzzles etc in the pub, so I can't see that it will be any different

We have seen people playing chess and backgammon when we have been wandering around the ships  I can't see any reason why anyone would object to you playing with yours.

We played LCR as a group on a Transatlantic every day, there was about twenty of us playing, great fun sat in the pub having a few drinks playing a game

No he was being honest -- it was snowing....... a lot. Mr Presto and I got really excited and then the rain came back 😞

 

Sadly it stopped.

 

Totally agree that there does seem to be hysteria that hits the press now a days and having spent many a happy holiday in Lapland I can agree that the press gets hysterical about a few mm of snow. Stoke on Trent comes to a grinding halt if we see a flake. 

 

Like you, hoping everyone is well wherever they live as the storm seems to have been a bad one. Thankfully Stoke on Trent seems to have avoided it this time.

Snow this morning, one minute it was raining, next it was the white stuff didn’t stick at first, then started to. We then had sunshine, which melted the snow, not that much to melt.

 

This afternoon had a weather warning pop up via my phone app, Yellow Warning of Wind for tomorrow & Monday, so have left everything where I had put it before Eunice came along. Heard that if storm is named it will be Storm Franklin.

 

Flood barriers have gone up in Ironbridge, won’t be good for half term trade, access was already difficult enough with one of the main roads in is closed in order to stabilise a bank at the roadside, so with closure of The Wharfage and riverside car park, won’t be easy for visitors.

Well it was snow for a while and as Presto said, the flakes were huge. Obviously in comparison with what others experienced yesterday, it was a bit minimal, but it was the best we had.

You’re absolutely right of course. Large chunks of England feel much the same about London and the south-east, but Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland barely get a look in.  Sheer weight of numbers, I suppose.

Just got home from dinner (or tea as we call it in Yorkshire) A great meal at Emma's Mexican Cantina by the harbour. When Mrs YP got her sweet her face reminded me of my childhood, one of my budgies lost the use of his legs so I made him some splints from matchsticks, you should have seen his little face light up when he walked.

It's very quiet down here this morning after all the winds of yesterday. I have just checked the weather forecast and there is now a flood alert out, due to the high tides! 

 

I've got an early start this morning as I have to get up to Truro for 8.30am for a MRI scan. When that's down I'm going to take myself down into the town shopping as I was given some vouchers for Christmas. 

 

Hope nobody has suffered any damage due the storms and that you are all safe. Enjoy your day.
