Lisa and I are celebrating our 18 Anniversary today. We decided to go to the Keg, a steak house.

I had lobster gratinée for my app. The bread is for dipping into the garlic butter.

Happy anniversary.  You can never go wrong with a dinner at the Keg or not removing pictures of it when quoting.

So tonight since Jonathan was home and we had leftovers from last night’s Steakpalooza dinner party (which I forgot to take pictures) we decided to do round two.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_476a.thumb.jpg.8c6b276eed012357c40c87a13e21a8bc.jpg

First off marinating the steaks with my original marinade.

I don’t measure but instead eyeball and feel.

Sea Dogs Steak marinade:

Rub steaks with Kansas City Cowtown Steak rub and Harleys Seasoning

Melt butter approximately 1TB per side of steak

With couple cloves of garlic

Pour equal parts

Worcestershire sauce

Teriyaki sauce

Light Soy sauce

Dash of liquid smoke

Season with

Garlic Powder

Onion powder

Sea salt

Pepper

Cool and then pour over steaks then refrigerate.

Butter will solidify and make it great for basting.

Twice baked potatoes from this recipe. I tweak adding some  Philadelphia Cream Cheese

Bacon wrapped Asparagus from this recipe

In this picture the twice baked reheated does not look as good but it still tasted great.

Desert is a chocolate bomb cake from our Hy-Vee Bakery. It has layers of chocolate mousse and chocolate ganache.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_476d.thumb.jpg.184c222e4b7e74c0fb5c7faf38943314.jpg

Sliced with a scoop of Belfonte Chocolate Silk Ice Cream and a dollop of chocolate syrup

Godiva Chocolate Martini

Great dinner and our tummy was very happy.

Cheers!

I ate out every meal

I quite honestly cannot remember ever going out to a restaurant, although only lived by myself for a relatively short time. Looking back on it I could have had more fun than I did! I was just so tired after coming home from a day of teaching the band kids. Often 15-minute lessons back to back throughout the entire day with a short lunch break. It was crazy. And running around between 5 elementary schools. Eventually I got some help when the district agreed to hire independently contracted instructors to help teach lessons. That didn't last though. Often TOO many drums and flutes. Could have started an elementary fife and drum corps.

Lenny, so glad you were able to enjoy your wonderful birthday party.

Your friend probably went to Bais Ya'acov.  Maybe ESHI-East Side Hebrew Institute. All the Lower East Side girls went there.  Tough to go there if not observant.

She was not observant at that time but she is now She has two daughters who are very religious .They were at the party today with their husbands.

Heck with that....our family went to paper plates for Holiday dinners quite a few years ago.

My grandmother God bless her), growing up during the Depression, could pinch a nickle till the Buffalo pooped.

When we went up to the (very) rustic cabin we ate off paper plates. Then wiped them off and used them for the next meal. All weekend long.

LOL...no criticism meant in any way! I was referring mostly to beginning drummers - 4th and 5th graders. I could almost tell which kids were going to sign up to play the drum. They had a different aura about them somehow. Also, most elementary drummers only knew one dynamic level - forte. Tell 'em to play with a pad and they were pretty bummed out. Can't blame 'em. I didn't have much choice though when there were like 20 of them in the back of the band, especially playing next to the cinderblock wall at the rear of the stage!  Sounded like cannon fire bouncing off that rear wall.

I  know what you mean about the required coordination. I'm an organist, and so both hands and both feet are doing different things.

No worries none taken. We drummers are used to all the jokes and everything. I can't tell you how many drummer jokes I've heard over the years. You are exactly right about being able to tell who was going to be drummers. My old high school band teacher could instantly tell. And yes they knew one level 'LOUD." I prided myself in being a finesse drummer. Through out my career whether I was playing classical or in a jazz band or small combo I had to play with sensitivity and play "the room," It takes a lot of skill to play soft most kids starting out can't do that. As an organist I respect you. I played with in a combo for awhile with a jazz organist. The bass lines he could play with his feet were amazing. I'm a big fan of Jimmy Smith and Jimmy McGriff. Fantastic jazz organists.

I can only imagine. God bless you for the work you did. It's important that all kids have exposure to music and to learn an instrument. It makes you a better student and teaches life skills way beyond the musical skill.

My son in the Army has a kitchenette in his barracks.  His kitchenware consists of a stack of paper plates, a fork, a sharp knife, and a frying pan.  That's literally all he owns for the kitchen.  He cooks a steak in the frying pan and eats it off a paper plate with the fork and knife.

For the paper plate haters out there, the Dixie brand (and the store brand made in the same fashion -- I get the Sam's Club version) are very strong.  If you get the cheap white paper plates with the funky scalloped edging (pic below), you're going to be picking up your food off the floor.  But the Dixie-type are perfectly fine.

This thread would be 20% shorter if we just used the thanks, like, and laugh buttons.😉

I know they don't always work, but that's the exception

Or in one case learn how to multi-quote instead of saying basically the same thing over and over in individual post after post. Even a first grader can learn to do that. That’s why CC has them.

I like individual, single post replies. Much more personal and makes me feel special. 😉

Multi quoting isn't overly hard. But on a phone or tablet, splitting a post up to quote individual passages is a bit of a pain. Probably impossible for someone with dexterity issues

Being a drummer/percussionist my whole life I would say we are a different breed but for the better. Most people can't do 4-way coordination/syncopation. We think different.

I totally get it.  Being an engineer...we also think different.  Most people don't sit at a traffic light and wonder what voltage electricity they use for the lights.

I know the life of a band teacher very well and admire everything that they do. My twins were in band for 7 years and we volunteered for everything from pre game dinners, driving to competitions, band camp and at the end of football season just hoping the team would lose because we were tired and just wanted it to be done. Of course in reality we were never done. Concerts, more competitions and private lessons were year round. Both of our girls did very well, but for one it was more social, while the other was ranked #2 in the state and was approached by a few colleges. She turned it all down to become a child life specialist at a children's hospital. She is at a training center this week to pick up her new facility dog that will work with her at the hospital.

Disposable dinner ware  vs.  China plates

In our house it started circa 1991 when I got married and registered for every piece of place settings as well as extra available serving side dishes.

I received every piece and have a complete set of my Noritake Southern Lace.

Then when my father took sick and moved in with us in 1995 I bought a new display cabinet for my moms set of china.  Her set is complete minus one coffee cup, that broke in the 60's'

Then The DH's mother passed away and we inherited her complete set of china and china case.

Yup that makes three so far, but not done yet.

My DH Uncle who passed away about 2 years ago, traveled Europe and when he went to Germany just out of college he purchased and sent home to his mom a complete set of China in the 1950's before the Wall went up.

His set is unbelievably stunning.  It is complete and a very beautiful pattern.  It is properly displayed and I will post a picture of it soon.  I cannot post pictures on computer, no clue how to do..  I will do from phone.

So with 4 sets I usually end up setting the table with one of them at least once a month.

I pull out the Waterford glasses as well as linen napkins in rings (display only I also place paper napkins).

As far as clean up goes.

There is no problem there.

We have an understanding in our house.

We are a team

We share our duties

For example when I cook.

He cleans and puts everything away

As far as emptying the dishwasher, not a problem none of the china dinner ware goes in it, they are all hand washed.

Besides I enlightened him, that yes I will cook, and he kindly will clean up, and any time he would like to change rolls.................bring it on.

So in 30 years, 49 weeks since we were married, he has never offered to change our arrangement.

Oh, he can cook, well kinda sorta.

He plays with food on the grill (after I get it ready), if you call that cooking.

Paper plates.

Oh yea, I love paper plates and probably have over 25 unopened dinner plates still in wrapper, I have so many different styles and prints.................. and silver ware with the napkin around the plastic ware.  GFS has the neatest strongest type,

When we have summer parties (picnics) we use it all the time.

Take care
