Our excursion for Juneau tomorrow was cancelled.  Maybe just catch a ride to Mendenhall Glacier and wander a bit instead.   Any suggestions?

Cheers 🍻 Mark

 Hi, Mark! @SteelCityCruiser10

It looks like you have already been given some great suggestions for your stop in Juneau from Andrew @A&L_Ont, @reallyitsmema, and @taznremmy. So, I just wanted to add that I agree with their suggestions, too!

When we stopped at Juneau many years ago, we did as Reallyitsmema suggested and took the Blue Bus (I think there were white ones, too) to Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls. It was really interesting there and there were many informational signposts along the paths.

When we returned, we stopped for lunch at Tracy’s King Crab Shack as Andrew and Reallyitsmema suggested. That’s really is a 'must do' for this port!

And as Taznremmy suggested, we also stopped at the Red Dog Saloon and had a couple of drinks before heading back to the ship. I agree that Red Dog has a really fun vibe including a piano player for the old-time singalongs. There are also interesting Goldminers' artifacts hanging on the walls.  I saw the gondolas and I would have enjoyed a ride, but hubby doesn’t enjoy heights. So, we skipped the gondola ride, but I enjoyed seeing the eagles who were perched in and flying around the huge evergreens in that area.

It really wasn’t a ‘picture perfect’ day when we were there, since it was very cloudy and drizzly, but here are a few not so 'sharp' photos anyway.

Dani @dani negreanu has also posted a few pictures of the yummy and gigantic crabs from her trip to Tracy's. Maybe she will join in and show you her photos.

Whatever you decide to do Mark . . . I hope you have a great time!

Good evening.  We have had another beautiful day in Sydney on this King’s birthday long weekend.

DH & I saw a new Cate Blanchett film at the Sydney Film

Festival in the city.  The New Boy.  A historical drama set in 1940s in outback South Australia, Cate plays a devout nun who runs a small orphanage for boys when a young Aboriginal boy with possibly special abilities is delivered to her by the authorities. Beautiful cinematography and well acted.  DH who picked it just shook his head at the end.  Heavy on religious imagery, he thought it was weird.  I thought it was very well done.

Meanwhile, DD was picnicking with friends at Observatory Hill near The Rocks in the city.  Not bad for winter.45D2F7E3-D556-4B71-B008-44FCA141E522.thumb.jpeg.b29b7a29c22849e8a3f6b198bdd0b5c6.jpeg

Once we got home, I went for a long walk locally.  A bit of colour & a brush turkey in the last of the autumn leaves.  D41AAEB8-3D23-4C67-850F-2AB66C491638.thumb.jpeg.632c4cddd8c3d73332efd59378748e56.jpeg

I would come back to downtown, do some shopping and then go to Tracey's for crab.

I too second the above recs. Our morning in Juneau consisted of a well renowned tour to see whales. Guess the whales didn't get the memo...

Then we took the public bus (blue or white, can't remember) to MG. Be sure to buy a return ticket from the same company.

Made the trek to MG (took about 40-45 of quick walking). We had extremely hot weather the whole week.... Not even a drop of rain, even in Ketchikan...

Back in Juneau, we very much enjoyed Tracy's Shack king crabs, even went for seconds 😉

Gondola is in the radar for sure.  Hoping the rain tapers off tomorrow

Thanks for the updates. We're doing this cruise in September as second part of B2B, so am watching for current years reviews/comments. We are planning on Mendenhall glacier so any information you can provide about blue bus transportation will be greatly appreciated .

Hope you have a great day today and the weather Improves.

@ReneeFLL My orchid finished blooming so I cut the stems back.  Now I have leaves coming out.  Should I try potting the leaves?  Should I wait until I see roots?  I have never been able to keep one alive this long and I am at a loss as to what to do now.

@SteelCityCruiser10  I wanted to add that when you walk out to Nugget Falls, we prefer to break off the main trail and go where this shows beach access.  It can be a wetter trail as you have to cross a little brook but there are stepping stones to go across it.  We saw some huge bear prints along the beach and scratching in the sand where bear dig for cones.  The marked black trail on the map is flatter and easier but we like to go the beach way on the way out and the black trail on the way back.  We found a park ranger down in the beach area too, pointing out where protected nests were, birds and other wildlife.  Just a different option depending on what you have for footwear.  We wear low, waterproof hiking boots but if it has been rainy and you don't have waterproof footwear, you might just want to stay on the black marked trail.

Beautiful, as always. I thought one was corncobs when I first glanced at it!

Soeakibv if aboriginal boys, I always wondered about the little aboriginal boy in the wonderful (to me) movie Australia. He was adorable, and I hoped to see him again in another movie.

The "almost" last minute cruise with my cousin is paid in full, with the flights from Tel Aviv already booked.

Still looking for reasonable rates and hours for the flight back from Rome, which, "falling" on a Saturday, greatly shortens the options. It doesn't help that many fly from Europe/US to the Holy Land in the week before the High Holidays.

I'd like to "shout" a big thank you to Ken ( @Ourusualbeach ) for his patience and understanding.

You've been a great help, Ken, and I really hope to meet you and all the others in Bella 2....😉

Im sure that food tasted as good as it looked. I’m glad you guys had a great cruise.

Thank you Greg.

The food was awesome.

Our 4 server's in the 2 restaurants were amazing so I emailed Carnival/P&O CEO to tell him and he said my email would be sent to the ship so the crew would be rewarded.

Graham, the pictures are great! The food looks oh so delicious!
We discovered an Indian restaurant called Tabla near us in Lake Nona area. Excellent food! We also discovered a Pho place, a Columbian coffee place, an excellent Italian restaurant on the lake, a Mexican restaurant, so many other regional cuisines.....at this rate I don't want to cook at home! 😁😁
