So exactly how much money do you have tied up right now with bookings?

A bit embarrassed to admit.  We have all our cruises on a spreadsheet.

But I'm the one who makes fun of myself and readily admit mistakes.

I just posted earlier that my wife finally stopped me from re-booking.

Money tied up...cruises starting April 5 ending June 26, all on the Adventure...$29,167.56

* Praying that Royal doesn't file bankruptcy.

True, people who book Suites and people who live in New York are excluded.....I’m guessing that’s a low percentage of the people on here talking about losing their non refundable deposits and not being able to get their cruise fare back.

There are 49 other states, and a whole lot more rooms on a cruise ship that aren’t suites. $203 bucks guys. You’re losing your money over $203 bucks.

Not all countries have refundable deposits. Royal Caribbean sail out of many countries and different countries have different booking conditions

So glad you admitted that! I thought I was nuts for having over $16K tied up in bookings!! This is the one time I was glad to be out bid!! Of course, my amounts are all deposits and airfare to Sydney. We haven't made final payment yet, so that amount will be higher! Eek!

P.S. I'm praying too!

Ah, ya can't take it with ya! Cheers!!

It would be interesting to hear from those who have deposits or full payments tied up right now.  How much do you have on the line?

4/16 cruise: I was digging through all the receipts and updated things today for what my final cost is....looking at 8k for the cancelled cruise + another 3k or so in cruise planner stuff that I want the straight refund on.

Looking for 125% FCC and full refund of the cruise planner stuff.  Haven't gotten either

8/2 cruise: 7k for room 1 paid in full + 1k depo on room two that I haven't paid yet with a balance of 14k due on May 8th or so that I want to pay most of it with using the FCC that hasn't been issue yet + approx $4500 in cruise planner items that are paid in full already. (plus $7500 in airfare and another $1500 in hotels in Vancouver before and after the cruise that I would have to fight with other companies for to get refunds)

Christmas 2020 cruise: 1k depo non-refundable,, 15k balance due + $5500 in cruise planner items that are already paid in full

August 2021 cruise: 1k depo non-refundable,, 18k balance due and no cruise planner items bought yet

So right now.....RC has in total $26500 of my money between 4 cruises.

I am seriously considering walking away from RCL if I can't get the FCC from the cancelled 4/16 cruised applied to the 8/2 cruise because I am not going to pay the rest of my 8/2 cruise in full and then have a chance of $37500 tied up in FCC and pending cruise planner refunds in they cancel the August cruise on me for two reasons.... 1. that's a lot of money 😉  and 2. It probably will be more than the $$ on the next two I have planned for Christmas and August....and then I would end up with extra FCC which may or may not be something I could actually use in a timely manner.  They have been given ample time for them to work it all out and get FCC (and refunds issued)...but especially the FCC since it is a non-monetary transaction and just pushing numbers around a spreadsheet.  It would mean eating 2k (maybe 4k in deposits) and then having to wait and wait and wait for cash refunds but if they can't get their act together.....there are other cruise companies....up till now I have been loyal and only sailed RC but that can change.

I am waiting on refunds of $500 (deposit on a November booking I cancelled when I booked a free Casino Royale cruise the same month) and $140 (excursion on cancelled cruise that was rebooked).  Port fees = $1,277.  Cruise fares = $1,590.  Hotels are refundable.  Money tied up on six cruises (plus two already cancelled) = $2,605.  Final payments of $1,002 due in June.  If I were to cancel, I would lose $396 on non-refundable deposits, the rest is refundable.

This was an interesting project.

At this point, I don’t think it matters if the deposit was refundable or non refundable, for those who were beyond final payment and the cruises were cancelled by Royal.  Refunds are not being received in either case.

We had a cruise in round 1 cancelled by Royal (2,500) that we haven’t seen a penny back on 36 days after selecting the “You will see your refund in 30 days” option.  Another cruise Royal cancelled in round 2 (4,500), We haven’t seen anything back, under another “You will see your refund in 30 days” option, but that one has only been 25 days now.  On the bright side, we at least received and email 8 days ago saying they would be refunding 1,200 in cruise planner purchases on the second cruise.  No refund, but at least an email about those.

We have another 500 tied up in a January deposit, plus other insurance and airline costs, so about 10,000 total at this point.

Thanks SilkySal!

I'm smiling because I was thinking the same thing......if this was trivia, I wouldn't want to win.

SideNote: If it's your first time to Sydney (ok, if not cancelled)...we highly recommend using the Opal Card to get around Sydney.  The best value in the world...in our opinion.  Opal Card will get you access to the train, buses, and ferries.  You can ride them as many times as you want during the day.  Maximum cost (could be a bit higher now) was 15AUS$/day. Happy Sailing!

Waiting for $6,500 in refunds for two May cruises cancelled by Royal.  Waiting for $4,500 in refunds from two September cruises which had been paid in full with my RCI credit card because I had credits on the card from RCI cancelling our 2/24/20 cruise on 2/14/20.  We filed for the September refunds on 3/19/20.  Only credit we got so far was just yesterday when $700 showed up on the credit card with no explanation.  Probably was a FCC booked on the 2/24/20 cruise which was switched to the 5/17/20 cruise which is now cash?  Won't even consider booking a cruise until I get all my refunds, over 70 note is eliminated and the lines are running again for 6 months.

If you used an FCC on a cruise that was later cancelled they will re-issue the FCC....not convert it to cash.

The FCC was from a previous cruise which was applied to the 2/24/20 cruise, cancelled by RCI,was then applied to the 5/17/20 cruise, now also cancelled by RCI.  I have no other amount on any of my 4 cancelled cruises which is exactly $700.  What else could it be?

We've had refunds from RCI come as more than 1 credit. Makes it hard to follow sometimes. I'd love to be able to get a previous FCC refunded as cash. Good Luck.

If you book any category higher than a Junior Suite you can't book a refundable deposit. So, for some, NRD is the only option.

If you can afford a cabin higher than a junior suite, then you can certainly  afford the consequences that go along with it.

I don’t know if I agree with the comment From SNJCruisers. I assure you that we have travel insurance and who would have guessed this over two years ago when I booked? We would have never cancelled for any reason as my work is flexible and my parents are retired. Any event would have been covered. Any money lost is a shame for anyone.

We were scheduled on the Ovation for the Hawaii to Vancouver repositioning on the Royal loft suite. I am awaiting a refund of circa $24k for 6 people. I went for the refund as my dad and mom are over 70, ans we don’t know when they can travel again given dad’s Bypass.

I have another 2k in deposits for next March. We are not sure if we will cruise as the value is upwards of 25k, and I am thinking a new deck and driveway may bring me more usage. Plus the issue with the 70+ letter.

Delta had moved our flights coming back from Vancouver, so I was able to get a refund.

We have since booked a land trip to Hawaii with flights and hotel that can be cancelled or postponed without penalty.  We are ok with that given  the price we got for the thanksgiving holiday.

Now to wait and see on $10k in flights to Switzerland in July. Even if we get credit, i am fine with that. My daughter’s dad lives there so we will use the tickets at some point.

And .... new to me... once I get the refund, Amex will write me a check to deposit and truly get cash back. I’ve never been in this situation so this is new to me.

I am still super bummed as we love cruises and this was a bucket list trip (plus the amazing Hanna as genie).

Best of luck to all of us in getting refunds! FYI, yes I bought stock and also hope RC has a healthy future!

Looks like 18 K earns you the Bronze Medal after the 26+ K and 29+ K postings. Edit....looks like you're out of medal contention after Swiss Miss USA's post of 24+ K. 😉

You do realize you may have taken your last cruise if you wish to have the Drs note for 70+ removed.

When the virus issues started, we knew we wouldn’t be taking our next 2 cruises due to husband is immunocompromised. I cancelled all cruise planner items and the cruise with refundable deposit and we have received all those refunds. We currently only have $900 “in play”, which I could get $700 as FCC if I cancel now, but don’t know if we’ll ever get to use it. Cruise is a repositioning Vancouver to Hawaii, before Serenade heads to Australia. Waiting to see if Alaska season gets cancelled completely, or Canada or Australia announce port closure extensions. Any of those happen before our final payment, we’ll take the cash refund, otherwise I figure we are out the money. I consider us fortunate that $900 could be our total loss!

Currently we have $14K tied up with RC and another $1200 with American Airlines.  The "30 days from cancellation date" we were originally told is now "45 from the actual cruise date" now and others have been told 60-90 days when they called in

I am in for about $6000 in cruise ship/tour/flight vouchers.

150,000 flying blue miles that I transferred from capitol one venture to get some reward tickets that will never get used as I never use Air France/KLM except this one time.

Another $2000 in Nonrefundable deposits that I am waiting for them to cancel cruises on so I don’t get hit with any penalties.

I have another $10500 pending refund if those ever hit the bank account.

Already refunded about $4000 in hotels, tours, and flights that were refundable.

Have $2690 in an airBNB reservation that I can’t get back yet.  Host wants to refund us, but Airbnb seems to control refunds and have not been to kind thus far.  We are only 15 days off the date that the Airbnb placed their coronavirus cancellation policy so hoping it gets extended another 15 days.  We will see.

Thankfully we were only into final payment into two cruises. But had several other trips planned that are proving costly on the cancellation front now.
