A beautiful morning I'm Michigan's UP.  Boat still not in the water but the flowers are beginning to bloom and many Bumblebees and Hummingbirds. The hummers are drinking so much I have had to water down the water and sugar mix to make it last till we go to town again.  The butterflies are beginning to show too.

@rafinmdI hope your hip feels better soon.

@rafinmd Roy, when I was undergoing PT for my fractured patella, the PT guru said the hip abductor circuit machine was the most important machine in a gym because of hip issues as we grow older. And there are some amazing stretches that focus on the hip flexors. Not sure if either of these could help reduce or eliminate your pain, but it might be worth trying them.

@StLouisCruisers does your HVAC system have a UV bulb? I had one installed on my two year old system, when I saw the amount of mold on my filter. And my filter is replaced 2x a year. The bulb kills mold. It wasn’t too expensive either. The price one pays for living in an area with high humidity.

Note that I am having to repost the following due to no response when I submitted it.  I apologize in advance if this is duplicated due to gremlins today.

Good morning friends from Lerwick (Shetland Islands), Scotland.  I'm having a tough time keeping up with the Daily since the internet does not work on this ship the past week or so.  Thank goodness my WhatsApp chats are able to be sent and received with WiFi.  I keep in touch with family that way.  DH's tiny laptop is the only device that I can use to access Cruise Critic.  And since I'm 5 hours ahead of the east coast I have to wait until afternoon to read up.

Enjoy Lerwick. I spent some time doing archaeology in the Shetlands. Nothing like excavating a broch while jets fly overhead and land close by. And I remember arriving there, getting off the ferry and heading straight for a wool shop to by a warm woolie. It was freeeeeezzzzzing!!!

Good Morning All,

Today we begin the March into a heat wave. We expect 100 tomorrow.😜

Our little guest fledged day before yesterday, and I have no idea if he or she is still hanging around.

Today is visit Dad and errands day. Have to fill the tank, too.

Thank you for the Thursday Daily. Rich.  I probably grew up in Donald Duck's heyday.  Archives are vital to our institutional memory.  Celtic art is awesome.  Love the Wilde quote.  I have never been to Ghana.  We were due to go there on the 2014 Amsterdam World Cruise (I don't think Takoradi) but it was cancelled due to the Ebola outbreak.  I'll pass on the meal and suspect it might prove a challenge as a meal to @dfish.  My alternative is Chilled Peach Soup and Boston Lager Strip Loin Steak as served on MS Prinsendam June 9, 2015:

It was a rough night for me.  A pain in my right hip has me hobbling around.  Not sure what is going on.

Today’s care list:

seagarsmoker’s Uncle Gary heart bypass surgery 6/8/22
Cruzin Terri with continuing health problems
Melinda with stage 4 cancer
Heartgrove older sister in hospice nearing the end
Heartgrove brother continuing problems in rehab
Buddy with continuing problems
Dismomx5 and DH in covid quarantine but feeling better
From the rotation:
1Angelcat facing expensive medicines
Cruising-along niece awaiting a kidney
Strength, peace, and healing for kazu
StLouisSal with weakening legs

Celebrations and Shoutouts:

3 Days for Westerdam
SusiekIslandGirl  surgery accomplished easily
2 days for Oceansaway17(Allure OTS 6/11 to 6/18)
3 days for Mister67 (Equinox 6/12 to 6/18)

Good morning, thanks for the Daily! I had a friend who could talk like Donald Duck - whenever I was down, he could always make me laugh just by saying something.  I love the intricacies of Celtic art and certainly appreciate archival material, especially when having to do any research.  If you speak the truth, you never have to remember what you said has always been my motto.

Well yesterday certainly was interesting; in the early afternoon I received a phone call asking me to call my CC provider by using the number on the back of the card.  I did, and was put through to a "fraud specialist" who advised me I'd been the victim of identity theft.  For the next several hours, I was on the phone with this fellow (who was so sweet and helpful) and others at credit bureaus, etc., getting a fraud alert put on my accounts, etc.  Of course, this means my credit card is now just a nice looking window scraper, and I'm not even sure I remember how to use cash any more!  LOL

As if that wasn't enough, the phone rang at precisely 1:00 this morning - our neighbour was up for a bathroom break and looked outside to see a man coming from our house "carrying something".  Well, DH and I both bounded out of bed to confront the "thief", DH armed with large flashlight and me with phone in hand, preparing to call 911.  Well the man was indeed coming from our house carrying something - it was the newspapers he was delivering.  Sigh.  Try to get back to sleep after that!    That's why I'm late to the party today.

@dfishI'm so glad to hear you're able to get back to the pool today.

@AncientWandererI forgot to mention how adorable your little DGS is !!!

@SusieKIslandGirlin and out the same day - wow!

I like the meal suggestion of the day, but prefer mine to have strawberries in them.  I think we're going to have air fryer chicken strips with honey mustard dip, corn on the cob and coleslaw for dinner tonight.  Simple and easy.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Extra for the people of Ukraine and their strength to continue the fight.  Extra also for all the families of senseless gun violence victims.  We'll clink our glasses together to celebrate a growing happy list.  Be well, get your boosters, wear masks when you need to, and stay safe.

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

One thing I've noticed being away from home is that my chronic cough I've had for the past 3 years or so, is a lot less on the ship.  I wonder what I'm allergic to at home?  All my allergy blood work says I don't have allergies to trees, grasses and pollen but why am I a cougher at home and not here?

Maybe you are allergic to not cruising 😉

Pierce County Sherrif, Ed Troyer, saw a car that looked like the operator was casing houses in the middle of the night. When Ed blocked the car in a driveway and confronted the driver, things didn't go well. The driver was delivering papers, and Ed Troyer is up on charges for profiling.

I used to deliver papers in the middle of the night in California. I had a 500 customer, 75-mile route. I would not have been surprised to have someone come and confront me, and hopefully I would have responded with grace and humility. Driving on the wrong side of the road and swerving back and forth as you throw things at people's houses and into their trucks can look pretty suspicious.

Good morning, Everyone.  I'm a big fan if Daisy Duck.  More so than Donald.  Celtic art is beautiful.  Archives are important.  Not sure about the quote.

Since I really prefer to have a main meal at lunch time, chips and a Margarita could count as dinner in my book.  Debbie's recipes look delicious.  Never been to Ghana.  Maybe if we end up going on Africa Grand Voyage.  Kinda getting scared off it, though.

Catching up on things here...

@Sharon in AZ, thank goodness Craig still has plenty to enjoy on your trip!  Hooray for that!

@rafinmd, do you have memory foam or similar?  My hips really need that.

@grapau27Nice car!  It's so exciting to have that new car smell.

@seagarsmoker, happy to hear that Uncle Gary's surgery went well.  👍

@dfish, already back to the pool?!! Awesome!

@cat shepard, your dinner sounds delicious.  Nice summer meal.

@StLouisCruisers, thanks for updating us.  Stay healthy!  🤞

@JAM37, I hope your eyes feel better today.  Sometimes I have to stay away from devices because of eyes and migraine.  Just have to be moderate with things, I guess.

@ottahand7, I've really been enjoying your "scenes from the lake."  We don't go away for summers anymore, so really getting vicarious kicks.  Your summer place looks beautiful.

@ger_77, what a pain about the CC fraud.  So many scams nowadays.  🤯

@SusieKIslandGirl, happy to hear that surgery was easy.

@marshhawk, because of you, I'm picking up the calls from all the theater reps.  I've had opera and play season tickets in the past, so I get calls all the time.  I don't want to and won't renew, but now I'm talking to them very nicely.  It might be you on the other end!

Here we have DMIL settled into her apartment at assisted living.  She's already making friends with the ladies who enjoy the pool.  Nice to see that.  New DGS is doing well.  I've been cooking dinner for them and taking it over.  They live 7 minutes away. As does our DD with her family.  She is expecting end of summer.  It's the summer of babies.  DS and DD will each have two children, and we expect that will be the sum total.  Three dear grandsons and one very spoiled dear granddaughter to boss the boys around,

Thanks for the Daily.  Have a great summer day everyone.  Sending good thoughts to all.

Good morning. Thanks for the Daily.

Interesting days. Not sure I agree with the quote.

I like margaritas, although not for a meal. Pass on the drink and maybe take the wine.

I haven't been to Ghana. I'll appreciate any pictures.

It's cooler and cloudy here today, after storms last night. I was up at 5:45 and at the hospital by 7:15. I survived the barium swallow. The worst was the first fizzy drink that was both sour and salty. The barium, both thick and thin, was strawberry flavored, and I got it down while standing and then twisting around on the hard table.

@kazu Thinking of you.

@rafinmd I hope your hip is feeling better quickly.

@seagarsmoker Good to hear that your uncle's surgery went well.

@SusieKIslandGirl I'm glad your surgery went well; take it easy!

@dfish Congrats on resuming swimming.

@JAM37 I hope your neck feels better; I used to wake up with terrible stiff necks and changing pillows finally seems to have fixed that.

@StLouisCruisers Good to hear from you. Stay safe and enjoy your cruise!

@Quartzsite Cruiser Wow, that's hot for this early in the season.

@grapau27 A new car is exciting! My car is 7 years old with low mileage, but one day I'd like to get a hybrid or electric car.

@ger_77 Ugh on the credit card fraud. So much work. My BFF just had someone try to charge $1600 on one of his cards, and is going through the same thing. What a fright with your neighbor calling about someone outside your house!

@AncientWanderer Good to hear that DMIL is settling in nicely in her assisted living apartment.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers to the Celebration List.

Stay safe everyone.

Good morning all!

Well the "river of rain" has started.  I'm glad I got a lot done in the backyard yesterday while it was nice.  Today will be a more restful day, I hope.

Yesterday turned out to be a bad day all around.  As I was pruning one of the lilacs, I heard the sound of what I thought was a tree falling in the woods behind our fence.  My heart stopped because it was so loud, and then about a foot away from me, I saw a 22" long 4" diameter branch had come down into our yard!  It could so easily have hit me and I would have been injured badly.  Once I had calmed down (and had some wine!) I contacted the HOA and put in yet another complaint about those nasty Cottonwood trees behind our houses.  They responded quickly, a tree service will be coming asap.

Then later last night DD texted that she tested positive for Covid. 😞  Of course we were all together last week in Yellowstone....none of the rest of us are feeling sick, but DH is going to be tested this morning at the clinic because he's scheduled to work tomorrow.  The timing is hard to figure how/when she got it, it could either be during our trip or right after getting home.

I like Donald Duck, Celtic art, and archives are so important.  I'll pass on the drink, wine and meal (Debbie @dfishgreat rising to the challenge!).  I like margaritas but not for a meal.

Roy @rafinmdI hope your hip pain is much better soon!

Sharon @Sharon in AZthank you for the cat photo!  🙂

@seagarsmokerso happy to hear that your uncle is doing well after his surgery.

@JAM37Julia sorry to hear about your neck pain.  I agree with others that it could possibly be your pillow. At least that's the culprit when my neck hurts.

Gerry @ger_77Yikes about the identity theft and being awakened in the middle of the night. 😞

Ann, I don't know about UV bulbs.  I'll ask DH.  We have two huge filters, one for each floor's HVAC unit.  We've never seen any mold on them.

Yes, indeed, Scotland is known for the cold damp weather, isn't it?  I saw a woolen shop today with many lovely hand made items in it.  I took note of it because all the knitting ladies talk about at Knitters and Knatters is buying wool (yarn) at our cruise ports.

@ger_77Your early morning jaunt outside to confront the stranger would keep me up the rest of the night, too.  It sounds like something you'd see on a TV comedy, but scary in real life.

@AncientWandererand @JazzyVthanks for your well wishes.  We hope to stay healthy, too.  I can't believe we've avoided Covid for 2 1/2 years now (knocking on wood as I say that).

Good afternoon everyone, I've been following but not posting the last couple of days. Busy with medical appointments for DH, it seems it's always something! I had my 6 month skin check as scheduled today and did not have to have any areas biopsied YEAH. Just got home as the rain started so I'm getting caught up with chores at home until the rain stops.

Best wishes to everyone

Good morning, we also have the newest "atmospheric river" flowing over us (and last year, this time, we were heading into the "heat dome".  Happy the barium swallow went well, @JazzyV.  Strawberry flavour would have been nice...  But you had no marshmallows?  I have a phone appointment with the doctor, to "discuss the results" - next Thursday, so I don't think there's any panic.

Pat has a cold, and is testing himself as we speak, as DD has a dentist appointment;  he just showed me the result - negative.  He can test himself again tomorrow before she leaves for the appointment.

Roy, @rafinmd, sorry about the hip.  I haven't been able to swallow my usual bedtime tylenol (although I did find some liquid tylenol in Bellingham, saving it for emergencies), so I wake up sore, too.    I really need to move around a lot during the night, so if I sleep too well, it's not good!

That is amazing about @SusieKIslandGirl's surgery!   And @dfish!  Nowadays they do things so much more speedily, and recovery time is reduced exponentially.  Good wishes for all who are having procedures done.

Gerry, sorry about the credit card fraud.  That happened to us once, and the cc company caught it.  The denied the charge and sent us a new card with a new number.  All we had to do was notify the places that had the card on file and change the information.  Sorry your night was interrupted with the "intruder.

Vanessa, in Quartzsite the highs can reach 100+F by the end of May.  In central Texas, reaching 100F normally doesn't happen until August, maybe late July.  This year, we had one afternoon that was 101F, and now this string of 100+F days.  I guess we have the heat dome this year.

Carolyn, I'm sorry your DD tested positive.  I hope it is a mild case and the rest of the family stays well.

Mary

Mary, glad you did not need anything biopsied.

Ann, I sorry Pat has a cold.  I hope he continues to test negative.

@dfish  Debbie  you always manage to find several recipes each day even when the meal is a drink.  Enjoy your pool time.

Once I get past the What the? stage, I enjoy the challenge.  @richwmn Rich just wants to keep me on my toes and keep my brain from rusting.

The abductors/adductors are really important to hip stability and being able to climb stairs.  That is always the first machine I go to when I do the weight machines.  I have some exercises I do in the pool for them as well and the resistance of the water makes them effective.

LOL

@dfishI'm so glad to hear you're able to get back to the pool today.

I have been there with the CC fraud a couple of times.  Once I didn't find out until I tried to charge a new patio set on my card and it was declined.  I had to call them.  The next one called me.

The pool was wonderful this morning and I can still feel the effects.  Wonderful!

Since I really prefer to have a main meal at lunch time, chips and a Margarita could count as dinner in my book.  Debbie's recipes look delicious.

@dfish, already back to the pool?!! Awesome!

My favorite is the cowboy caviar.  I could eat the whole bowl of it.  I'm glad that your DMIL has settled in so well.  There is something about ladies and going to the pool that helps making friends.  The ladies this morning were all surprised to see me back so soon.  Enjoy the grandkids.  Nothing better than a baby to hold.

Good morning. Thanks for the Daily.

Interesting days. Not sure I agree with the quote.

I like margaritas, although not for a meal. Pass on the drink and maybe take the wine.

I haven't been to Ghana. I'll appreciate any pictures.

@dfish Congrats on resuming swimming.

Thank  you!  I'm glad your barium swallow went well.

That is too bad about your DD testing positive.  Hopefully it won't run through the whole family, although her husband and the boys may get laid low by it.  Let's hope for the best.   I actually enjoy the challenges of drinks for dinner or a single ingredient.  Remember when the Meal of the Day was arugula?

Sending us home sooner is really better.   Patients recover more quickly at home, maybe because we are a bit more active.  In the hospital you tend to stick to the bed.  Hospitals are also the best place to pick up an infection.

The surgery I had years ago motivated me to get home.  Surgery was Monday morning and on Tuesday morning I told the doctor I was ready to go home.  He disagreed and said I had to be able to walk the hall back and forth and at least fart.  I told him to unhook me from my wires and tubes and I could accommodate him on both issues.  And I did.  I walked up and down the hall about 10 times that day.  My motivation was that my roommate was the mother of a student I had had in both 8th and 9th grades.  I had failed him both times and wanted to get out of there before she figured out who I was.  Fortunately, sonny boy did not come visit  his mother.
