Rare 0106 Posted July 14, 2022 #30 Share Posted July 14, 2022 Here’s a practice run… bit nervous about subbing for @dfish tomorrow. (Have a great trip Debbie!) My family loves macaroni & cheese. I use several different recipes but this is the one my family always requests. ger_77 Posted July 14, 2022 #35 Share Posted July 14, 2022 Good morning, thanks for the Daily! Happy Bastille Day to our French friends. I'm fearful of sharks and as @Crazy For Cats, the only Pandemonium I like is by the Pet Shop Boys - my brother and his friends introduced me to this great group. I think macaroni and cheese is good, but will wait for cooler days to enjoy some. We are in the middle of a heat wave here on the "frozen tundra" and our city was the hot spot in the province yesterday with a temp of 34.9C (94F). Because of the heat, we had a thunderstorm roll through last night which helped cool things down, but we're expecting temps to rise again today. Ever so glad we installed central air a few years ago. It was too hot to enjoy the deck and yard yesterday afternoon so I tasked myself with making a couple of new cloth grocery bags. I'm all about short cuts, so went to the dollar store and bought some heavy, lined table runners for the bag. They didn't sell webbing that was needed for the handles, so I improvised and bought a ratchet tie-down thingy that I cut the hooks and ratchet off for DH to use in the garage and used the webbing from that. I had to look up on Google how to make box corners, but managed to get them made and I'm quite proud of my final results. The two bags should last a lot longer than the plastic ones from the grocery stores. @dfishwishing you and your sister a wonderful holiday, hoping you and your luggage all arrive together! @HAL Sailerthank you for the update on Curt; because we hadn't heard anything, I was going to ask about him today. Today's menu suggestion is interesting; I would never have thought of putting cabbage and coconut together! I'm not sure DH would appreciate it, so I think I'll take a pass and instead will be defrosting some pulled pork that will be made into sandwiches along with coleslaw for an easy meal on a hot summer's night. And wine. Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do. Extra for Buddy's family and friends. Extra for the people of Ukraine and all who provide aid for them. We'll clink the glasses together to celebrate all on the happy list. Get your boosters, stay safe, wear masks when needed and be well. Smooth Sailing! 🙂🙂🙂 Gerry 32

Quartzsite Cruiser Posted July 14, 2022 #40 Share Posted July 14, 2022 Good morning from central Texas. Today, I'm going to post my pictures that I posted on December 24, 2021, and then I'll go back through the Daily. We have been to Athens at least four times, not counting the two times we flew home from there. I'll try to not duplicate many of the pictures @Cruzin Terri Terri posted. BTW Terri, after looking at the picture of you and DH, I think we have been on a cruise with you, but I don't think we ever met. In 2019 while on the Veendam, we took the Ho-Ho from Piraeus into Athens. The first group of pictures were taken from the bus as we drove through Piraeus. The next pictures are from the bus in Athens. It was one of the hottest days of the year, and they closed the Acropolis in the afternoon due to the heat. A pedestrian shopping street A couple more pictures of Athens In 2017 on the Prinsendam, we took a taxi to the Acropolis, but due to the lines just waiting to get a ticket, we decided not to visit the top. We'd been there in 2003 on the old Regal Princess. Instead, we walked down the hill to the ancient agora and then to the modern agora. This was a street between the Acropolis and the agora. A small chapel along the way The ancient agora The modern agora area near the train station. An old church at the train station in Athens. Quartzsite Cruiser Posted July 14, 2022 #42 Share Posted July 14, 2022 (edited) I have a few more pictures from our stops in Athens and Piraeus. The first one is a church in Piraeus between the cruise terminal and the train station. In 2016 while on the Prinsendam, we took a tour to the Corinth Canal which included a boat ride through the canal. The first picture is taken from the bridge over the canal. On the tv show the Amazing Race, the contestants had to bungee jump from the bridge. In the second picture, the small ship was stuck for a while and our boat circled the bay until the ship was moving again. On our first visit to Athens in 2002, when we were much younger, and fitter, we climbed to the top of the Acropolis. I know there are similar pictures, but no visit to Athens should leave out pictures of the Acropolis. The ancient theater that has been modernized. The ruins of another ancient theater Those seats do not look very comfortable. I hope the performances didn't drag on too long. 😀 I know I said I would not repeat pictures that @Cruzin Terri Terri posted, but I had to add our pictures of the Acropolis. If anyone has not seen the movie "My Life in Ruins", you might like the movie. It is set in many places like Delphi, the Acropolis, etc. It’s a cute movie with a good cast and makes for a fun evening. grapau27 Posted July 14, 2022 #43 Share Posted July 14, 2022 2 hours ago, dfish said: Good morning, everyone! It is looking like a nice day in northeast Ohio. We had some storms blow through and it was pretty windy for a while, but we did need the rain. I'm not going to complain about that! The suitcases are all lined up by the front door and ready to go out to the car. I'm meeting Sister Sue at Sister Barb's house this afternoon. We're leaving one car at Barb's and taking the other to the airport where I got a deal on a room tonight with two weeks parking included. On the way to Barb's I am stopping in Toledo to have lunch with my friend John. So, a busy day ahead! Today's meal is interesting given the flavor combinations. @Crazy For Cats Jake, you can always substitute chicken for tofu. When you see tofu, think chicken. You can probably do other meats as well, but with the coconut, lemongrass, and ginger I would want a mild flavored meat. Most of the recipes were based on the one by Epicurious, but I have reached my monthly limit there. Here's the first recipe: https://www.kulinarian.com/recipes/coconut-cabbage-and-tofu-with-lemongrass-and-ginger-epicurious-com/ Since the recipes are all based on the one by Epicurious, I branched out to find similar dishes. Here is a coconut cabbage soup with lemongrass. https://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/asian-coconut-cabbage-soup-lemongrass This is another soup recipe. https://www.bakespace.com/recipes/detail/Thai-Coconut-Cabbage-Soup/72349/ This one is missing the cabbage, but it has everything else. The crispy part is what attracted me. https://www.wholefoodbellies.com/crispy-lemongrass-ginger-tofu/ Prayers for all who need them, especially victims of violence and injustice. Special prayers for Daily family members who face challenges and struggles, especially the family of @StLouisCruisers Sandi who suffered the loss of Buddy. Cheers to those who are celebrating. Wishing you all a wonderful day! I will now turn this over to Tina @0106 who has graciously offered to stand in for me while I am having the time of my life in Norway with family and friends. I should be back August 2nd if my flights work out! I hope your cruise is fantastic Debbie.

kochleffel Posted July 14, 2022 #45 Share Posted July 14, 2022 I would be OK with the meal, cocktail, and wine suggestions, and also with the alternative. If we have to be aware of sharks where I live, something is very wrong. Macaroni and cheese would be OK if made with lactose-free milk and aged cheddar, which is naturally low in lactose, but sometimes I feel like I work at the Institute of Pandemonium. I'm continuing to moderate conference presentations, but this afternoon I give one myself. Some of the sessions are at crazy times regardless of what time zone one lives in, and yesterday I skipped one that was at dinnertime, with a notoriously long-winded speaker. I posted enough pictures from Athens while I was there in May. I've been losing weight slowly, and before the Greece trip I had to buy trousers in a smaller size. Because of discontinued brands (manufacturers closed?) or supply-chain issues, I couldn't find exactly what I wanted, so I'm still shopping, but not as frantically. 24 1

I will say yes to macaroni and cheese, no to sharks and pandemonium. I think the rose' sounds quite nice, no to the drink and tofu suggestion. Another odd Marilyn Monroe quote. Piraeus (Athens) was the port of the day on Dec. 24, 2021. We had many photos posted that day but I wasn't one of the posters due to the fact we drove to Ohio that day and it was late in the day before I got around to reading and posting. I'll wait and see if we have a lot of photos today or not before I go hunting for my photos. I looked up our visits there and we've been there 5 times so I must have a few photos. We didn't go into Athens each visit, I do know that. Thanks Rich @richwmn for posting all these discussion topics today on the Fleet Report and Daily! Also thanks go to Roy @rafinmdfor his Care and Celebration lists. I appreciate your mention of Buddy's passing. It's been quite the journey since his first surgery for throat cancer right before Christmas. Prayers were said this morning for all before I even hit the treadmill. By the way, there was minor pain in the leg overnight. I'm hoping to keep it manageable and perhaps it will go away on its own with time. As for the celebrants, cheers to all of you! Debbie @dfishsafe travels today and this weekend as you head out for your cruise. We will miss you however and look forward to seeing you back here Aug. 2. Good luck today Graham @grapau27at your doctor appointment. Hope everything works out well. Also hope Sarah is feeling better every day. Jacqui @kazuShadow is a handsome dog! I know he will be lucky to have such a great Mom when he arrives. Sorry about the toe but hope it's looking a little better. Glad you found the weeding tool to help make life easier for you. And don't work too hard! Jack @HeartgroveI'm sorry to hear your DB doesn't seem to be doing well lately. I hope you can get that very important visit in with him next week. That wedding is finally here! Safe travels there. I forgot my weather report! It's cloudy as it has been a lot lately. More rain expected here and there during the day. I wish I could send some to those who need it (my DD in Cincinnati for one). As long as it's not flooding I'll take the rain. Have a great day everyone! Thank you for your nice words Sandi @StLouisCruisers. Sending Amy our prayers 🙏. Doctor was pleased with my weight loss and my knee. He said both Knees were moderate - severe arthritis but there was muscle wastage around my right knee and quad caused by the pain before the steroid injection 3 weeks ago. As my left knee and leg had good muscle support he said to leave that knee alone for the moment and look at another steroid injection if the constant pain returns in my right knee. Overhead Fred Posted July 14, 2022 #50 Share Posted July 14, 2022 We had three trees taken down and several pine trees "cleaned up" on Tuesday. This was partly to prepare for our planned detached garage. But the back yard was also too shady and one of the trees was much too close to the house. There was a fair sized cedar in the back corner (already partially cut in the first picture, you can see the cherry picker) that had been butchered over the years by the power company to keep the electric lines clear. It was too ugly to keep and it was pushing up against the fence. We kept the wood from it for fire pit use, everything else was hauled away.
