Greetings from beautiful Port Charlotte

59 this AM heading up to 81 this afternoon.

I have no idea what Snail-papers day is about and am perplexed by the quote.

I’m fighting a head cold right now, I’ve gone through 2 boxes of Kleenex since Friday night, no coughing or fever and tested negative on Covid but I probably won’t play golf tomorrow.

I love all kinds of potato salad but not as a main course meal.

We have been to Costa Maya many times taking a few tours including Tulum. Our best tour in Mexico was out of Cozumel when we flew to Chichen Itza on a 20 passenger turbo prop plane, still can’t believe we took that tour as most know we hate flying but it was a great trip.

Have a great day and stay well.

Good morning from central Texas where it is basically clear and not windy,  It is currently 56F, and the humidity is down to 46% with a dew point of 36F.  The predicted high will be 79F with clouds giving way to sun this afternoon.  Once it warms up a bit, I will be out pulling weeds, trimming the grass and mowing.  Tomorrow's weather is still iffy, but about the time of totality the sun could be breaking out of the clouds.  That is also the time rain and isolated thunderstorms could begin.

Beavers are interesting animals and good for the environment.  Snail-papers day celebrates print newspapers which are an endangered but necessary form for getting information.  If you Google just snail-papers, you would find they are for rolling marijuana.  The Metric system is good, and I can now mentally figure out some temperatures and measurements in metric.

A funny quote from a funny man who died recently.

I like potato salad as a side dish, but it must have mayo, and I prefer my version of my mother's recipe.  Sometimes, dishes should not be too healthy.  The drink might be interesting, but I prefer a real key lime pie.  We'll pass on the wine.

We have not been to Costa Maya.

A nice day in history for music lovers and  Bach fans.

@grapau27  Welcome home Graham and Pauline.  I suspected you were away the last several days.  Thanks for the nice pictures, and too bad about the weather.

@Heartgrove  Bruce, please wish Sue and her sister BON VOYAGE for us.  I'm glad Sam is doing so much better.

@MISTER 67  I'm sorry you have a cold, and I hope you are better soon.

Happy Sunday! Although when I wake up I read the local newspaper online, we receive a daily snail paper because I do the crossword puzzles and my DH does the jumble and other word puzzles.

Not sure how I feel about beavers.  They’ve caused several environmental problems on my area.  However, did you know it was Beer day too.IMG_0381.jpeg.9e44726e21faa1c10bcc690027c93906.jpeg

Bota Box is our go to cardboardeux although we prefer the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio.  Their name was inspired from the traditional Spanish wine skins known as “botas” which were used to carry wine for centuries for thirsty travelers.

Positive thoughts to those who need them.  Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.

The English teacher in me requires saying that healthy classic potato salad would be potato salad made from healthy classic potatoes. I don't think you would want to make potato salad from diseased potatoes. They mean healthful but I'm not sure that any potato salad is all that healthful.

Today's pseudotini is perhaps the most pseudo so far. No boxed Chardonnay in the FL, but for a bottled one, Blue Waters Chardonnay from Swedish Hill Winery, an atypical light Chardonnay. I have been to Leipzig and visited the Thomaskirche--the organ of J.S. Bach's time is no longer there--but Munich was where I heard a performance of the St. John Passion.

It's sunny today and I'll be heading out later for my course assignment to experience the beauty of nature, on which I'm way behind. It will almost certainly be completely clouded over during the eclipse tomorrow. I had thought about buying a strong neutral-density filter in order to photograph the eclipse, but concluded that the odds were too poor.

Good morning everyone!  Thanks for the Daily and the maps @kazu and @rafinmd.   Beavers are problematic where we live in the summer with their dams causing small roads to flood.  They were imported to Ushuaia to build a fur trade that never came to be and with no predators they wiped out their forests.    A beaver dam on our road to and from town in Upper Michigan somewhere in my post.

Glad we passed on the metric system in the USA.   A funny quote by the late actor Richard Lewis,  I watched the last episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm and sadly no Richard.   Pass on all three of today's comestibles.  I wouldn't even bring or drink a box buttery chardonnay at a party, that is where I draw the line and switch to beer.  @GTVCRUISER thanks for Beer Day reminder!

Prayers for everyone on our care list, especially Tana.   Prayers for all war zones, Ukraine and the innocents in Gaza.

Today's planned schedule fell apart so I won't be able to get the final ingredients for my cioppino so the work I did yesterday is going in the freezer.   I plan on reviewing my talk for the garden club tomorrow and working outdoors some more.   Have a lovely Sunday!  Nancy

Good morning Dailyites from 58 going to 82 degree day. It is calm and the birds are singing. Yesterday was so windy dirt was flying out of our pots and over the patio.

Graham welcome back and thank you for Father David's message.

We had a nice day at Farmer's market and lunch with our friend. Allen was hoping to get his favorite (Texas) pecans and a guy makes bread and butter pickles Allen loves. Our lunch was catfish, redfish, and I had the crab leg/shrimp plate. Our funny waiter will don a crab suit when little ones come in and everyone gets a kick out of it.

Beavers have a day. How cute! Not so cute when they damn up your creek and cause flooding in your gardens. Yes, they did.

Reaching out to all on our care list. Thank you Vanessa for keeping copious notes. Prayers for Tana, Terry, DGS, Sandi's family and friends,  for our soldiers, veterans, families torn apart by wars, all suffering from hunger and illness. God bless you all. (Allen got his Jardiance in the mail yesterday woohoo!)

The heat came on this morning, it was 36 at dawn, heading to 55 and sunny!  Might not be sunny tomorrow. We have a car maintenance appt at 11, hoping to be back before eclipse time, not in line of totality but maybe we’ll see something.

Bon Voyage 🎉 to @Heartgrove’s DW and SIL, @Overhead Fred and @Vict0riann and Pat!  After your journey from Vancouver Island you need a vacation!

My mountain home address was on Beaver Trail. I never saw one there but DH did!  On the Ridge where we were there wasn’t much water but the beaver did well in the streams below us, always working on their mid-stream lodges.

I think the Key Lime cocktail needs Key Lime juice. Key limes are small and taste different from regular limes.

After the earthquakes I was reading iO on NJ geology; found myself less adept at converting English to metric than I used to be… I was reading about deep earth pressures reported in “atmospheres” but I was taught to think in kilobars. Ugh, brain not as flexible as it used to be!

Yesterday I had difficult conversations with a niece and nephew trying to warn them that they need to be prepared with more knowledge and appropriate legal documents so they can assist their parents through aging. Maybe now is a good time for them to have the conversation with their parents, on the heels of two family funerals last week. My other brother’s wife being in a health crisis brought these issues to their daughter’s realization, that she doesn’t know the first thing about her parents’ finances so if her father crumps she’ll be totally lost about how to care pay for her mother’s care. I’m glad I talked with my other brother’s kids but that’s about all I can do, and hope for they best, that the “kids” (they’re all 40s-early 50s) will take it up with their parents.

Sending blessings to all in need of healing, comfort, hope, relief from pain, a better night’s sleep, direction on decisions about procedures, a miracle from insurance, protection from storms, wars or worry!  And for any other needs that weigh on us 🙏

🍾 Cheers to those celebrating happy events.
Smooth travels to all away!
Thanks all for being here.
Thanks for all the rich photos that transport us to happy places, times and memories!

Welcome home Graham and Pauline, I’m sure you both needed some refueling!  🫠

Good morning. The sun is out with beautiful blue skies. Beavers are interesting animals . I have not been to the port. I make a good potato salad and wonder how the yogurt tastes in the healthful recipe.

Bon Voyage to  @Vict0riann, @Overhead Fred and the DW and DSIL of @Heartgrove!

@dfish,I am sorry the eye problems persist. Do you return to the Dr?

@JazzyV, I think of you often with your very limited sleep. So sorry the pain is back .

@kazu, Has the acupuncture helped? Your weather is dreadful .

@grapau27, love the pictures, thanks!

We are on our own during the day today and at night. Our teenager has been helping me with vacuuming and floor washing. I am grateful and have to tone down expectations…Tana is feeling better by this morning but sleep was elusive last night.
Enjoy the day!

Correct. But all I ate for 15 days was fruit/cereal for breakfast, salad for lunch and fish, chicken  or filet for dinner. No desserts, no bread, no fried foods, etc, etc,  and no booze even though I was on the all you can drink package on Celebrity but 15 drink limit on HAL. I told one of the servers on Day 4 of 7 that I only had 45 Diet Cokes left on my package!

I would try the meal, drink and wine; was in Costa Maya (Majahual) several years ago after it had been wiped out by a hurricane 🌀 I don't have pictures to post as the few I took are on my computer.

Going to 6 Flags today w/a lifelong friend who is in town for the eclipse. I am not looking forward to what I think will be crazy crowds, but I want to see her. 6 Flags was my first job ever, only one I had in high school and where I got a broken front tooth which resulted in my first crown. Ah, memories.

Currently 61° headed to 81°.

Prayers 🙏 and positive thoughts for all.

Good morning, thank you for the Fleet Report and Daily!  We have beavers in our city and as a result, many trees along the river have wire skirts so they can't be taken down.  We still get the newspaper, but it's down to 5 days a week; I did google snail papers and it refers to custom rolling papers if you "roll your own".  I'm used to the metric system, but vacillate between metric and imperial measures all the time.

A quiet Sunday morning right now with cloudy skies and no wind.  As I opened the curtains this morning I realized our front lawn is almost clear of snow, while the neighbours across the street still have tons on theirs.  Not sure why, as we received the same amount as they did.  Our front lawn faces east while theirs faces west, but other than that I don't know what the reason would be for theirs not melting as quickly.  Even our back yard (which faces west) is clearing nicely - not enough that we can work in the yard, but the glaciers are definitely receding.

Bon Voyage @Heartgrove's DW and DSIL, @Vict0riannand Pat, and @Overhead Fred; I hope you all have wonderful cruises.

@smitty34877your teenager seems to be a good help to you around the house, starting to cook and helping with the clean-up.  He sounds like a sweet guy, although I'm sure he has his moments, too.

@kazuhave you had any relief from your pain with the acupuncture treatments yet?

It was good to get together with our friends Wayne & Fran yesterday for brunch, just catching up on the past 3 weeks.  They said over Easter with family they'd played "Catch Phrase" which turned out to be quite funny, so I think the next time we're together, that might be part of the evening's entertainment.  On the way back we stopped at Ollie's just to check in on her.  Thankfully about a month ago she and Gord adopted a new kitty - tabby/Maine Coon cross - and she's been a great comfort for Ollie.  I'm so glad they have each other.

Today at noon I'm heading out to get my nails done so I don't have to worry about breakage, or having to file them down while we're in Calgary, and I'll be dropping my thoughts on Gord off to a friend who will read on my behalf at the memorial on Friday.

I'd like to try the drink of the day, but unlike so many, am not a real fan of key lime pie.  I'll pass on the white wine, and I use my own made-up recipe for potato salad using Miracle Whip and dry mustard in the dressing.  My mom always sweetened the mayonnaise and finally just used Miracle Whip instead, so that's what I use.  I don't feel like cooking today so on the way back from dropping off my envelope to our friend, we'll stop and pick up some burgers to enjoy at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in grief, in turmoil, and in wars.  Cheers to all who have celebrations today.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

Super photos Sandi.

We stayed in the port area and watched people swimming with the dolphins.

There was another pool with lots of sunbeds around.

Thank you Graham!  Don't forget the shopping there.  I'm glad you and Pauline are safe at home after the cruise, and enjoyed being pampered all week. The crew on Iona must know you both quite well by now.  Back to cooking and cleaning up after yourselves.  I think most of us understand why you don't go public with your time spent away from home.  Also thanks for Father David's message today.🙂

Oh my @RedneckBob!  I know you meant chicken instead of children for dinner!  But congrats on doing so well with your diet while on your cruise.  I am too tempted by the ice cream to deny myself on cruises.  And no alcohol even with a drinks package?  Kudos to you!

Most of the crew in the speciality restaurants recognised us from our

14 nights cruises in November and January on Iona and there was quite a few hugs and handshakes.
