The Fleet Report and Daily for Saturday June 29th, 2024

Good morning,

I am reading the Daily waiting for DGS to wake up. DGD is going through a mommy phase and doesn’t make it through the night. I asked them to take her home before bed so we can get a good night sleep. Needless to say she was not happy promising to stay all night as they carried her off. We will try again another day. We had storms again last night.  This has been a stormy June. it looks like July will be the same with rain predicted for the 4th. It will be interesting to see how they handle the fireworks.

I am hosting a birthday party for a dear friend on Wednesday. I changed the menu based on weather predictions and I am cooking a brisket in the oven. It was on sale at the store and I ordered a 10lb one based on their recommendation. I could barely carry it out of the store!  I will have to cut it in two to fit it in pans. I should have told them 16 old people. I will make sure I have plenty of bags for leftovers to give out.

Prayers and well wishes.  Have a great Saturday.

Good morning from sunny central Texas.  It is 81F and feels like 89F, with 89% humidity and a dew point of 77F.  There is an 11mph wind from the south which should make it a bit more comfortable while I trim and mow the grass.  We are under an excessive heat warning until 7pm today, but our predicted high is 98F.  As soon as I finish this, it will be time to get ready and get the yardwork done as early as possible and practical.

I'll skip playing in the mud today, especially since the ground is dry and hard.  Cameras deserve a day, and we own quite a few.  DH worked as a photographer for Texas Student Publications which oversaw The Daily Texan newspaper, Cactus yearbook and other print media at The University of Texas.  I hope they find a cure or a way to prevent Scleroderma.

I also like the Charles Schulz quote.

The meal sounds good, and I like the looks of the first recipe.  It would be good on a much cooler day.  We'll pass on the drink and the wine which seems overpriced.

We have not been to Puerto Chacabuco, although we've enjoyed seeing the fjords in Chile.

Today marks a sad day for the Globe Theater, but a great day for Star Trek fans.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, I hope the patient who needed land based care recovers quickly.  I'm sorry about more missed ports.  We enjoyed seeing Grundarfjordur twice.  Huuk was an interesting stop for Rotterdam VI in 2003 even though it was rainy and muddy.

@grapau27  Graham, thanks for information about Scleroderma Day.

@0106 Tina and @ottahand7 Nancy, thank you for your pictures from today's port.

@Haljo1935   Elizabeth, thank you for the explanation of Mud Day.

@smitty34877  Terry, I'm sorry Tana doesn't feel like eating much, but glad she is trying.

@Denise T  Denise, I'm sorry your back is a bit sore.  Hope it improves quickly.

@dfish  Debbie, I'm sorry Sue has been dealing with a migraine.  I hope the headache is gone soon.

Good Saturday Morning Dailyites!  We did not get to any museum yesterday, but I did get DH up so that we could have lunch at my favorite Thai restaurant (his too) we went to Walmart, and bought the 40 can catfood cases, and some inexpensive big cans of no name cat food.  We watched some Formula 1, 2 and 3 and last night after dinner, we went out for ice cream.  And then I tried to download some of the kitten pictures from their first weigh in, and they would not load, but I did take some yesterday, and they did, so here we go....

Nap time for Jersey (black and white one) and Quiffy.

image.thumb.jpeg.312c0f26f17542fc8fde32fe55037131.jpeg

Grumpy Bob on the left,  and Ollie and Jersey looking at the birds on the feeder.

image.thumb.jpeg.dd809632cf57f4df92b04ccec8d71d08.jpeg

Temptations feeding time...aka late night snack time-

Bob  aka currently Grumpy having to share with the kittens, Momma Munchin the black and white, Tigger.  Bob eats and growls at the same time.

image.thumb.jpeg.c62bcf762b21420335ddf4906d310796.jpeg

Tazi who will only leave her room to either sleep with us at night, or if she hears Temptations being served, came down and ate her share off the counter, and then saw the butter...

image.thumb.jpeg.5df6b496cf6dcd18d7a0d4665179a250.jpeg

We are stumped on why the weigh ins are unloadable, but todays chore for DH is to see if he can post them.

My chores are work, go pay a bill, make a sign for neighbor Donnas birthday, and early tomorrow , I will pick up some balloons and tie them to the sign, and put them outside her door.  We are taking her out for a birthday lunch.  Her choice.  Old HIckory house, she loves to order the veggie platter.   I would like it if they added BBQ ribs to it.

Have a wonderful day!

Good morning all,

For now we have some cloud cover which is supposed to burn off into heat and humidity. Am planning an “at home” day and hope to finish up my current project, a small shed. It needs trim, paint touch up and the roof has to be shingled. Its been 30+ years since I’ve done that so I’ve been haunting YouTube for a refresher.

I was in Chacabuco in 2013 and we had a beautiful day. @DWAliaschief had arranged a private tour for our roll call to the national parks and farm seen in other’s pictures. It was one of the best excursions I’ve done to date. Most of the pictures I have are not on my Apple Photos storage, but here’s a few:

@marshhawk thanks for giving us a peek at the kitties ❤️ I wouldn't be able to keep all those names straight, so good for you!! And I hope there's not a test later - I cannot handle failure this early in the day 🙄

Jersey - love it!!

Here's my one-and-only (Mini Max) doing what he does best - keeping the dog off my lap.

Well crud - CC wants him upside down & will not let me fix it...

A couple places near me are hosting Mud Day celebrations. Sanitation is important, so I will support a Mud Day.

Forecast today is 100° - maybe a mud bath will help cool things off.

I can never remember playing in the mud as a kid, maybe that’s why I’m so miserable in my old age.

Good morning Dailyites

Sandi, that 2nd itinerary change makes me sad that you are missing so many ports!

Thank you for prayers for my friend Belinda. She's so miserable with her shoulder pain.

Prayers for our fellow friends here. Hoping Tana gets relief.

My sister has had scleroderma for years. She wears gloves in the market because it's so cold her fingers swell and turn blue.

@kazu Jacqui, the place you take your donations to? They may have extra boxes. The suggestions continue!

We took the wee one out on Elvis last night. We saw the bucks almost in the same area as the night before. Other than lots of frogs, no other critters were sighted.

When I was little we played in mud puddles in our bathing suits. My mom would hose us off and rinse out our suits before she washed them. MSH said he was always in the Georgia mud and swimming holes. He said when the helpers picked cotton they would make mud and put them on thier arms and legs to keep them cooler and bugs away.

Thanks for all the fun pictures and memes today. Keep cool! We are expecting 100 degree temps this next week.

Hoping no one gets in the way of Beryl!

Okay! Late evening movies equals later morning wake ups. Grilled some fresh ears of corn on the grill, along with prime cut hamburger ( no bun) and a sliced beef steak tomato for dinner. Leaning toward some BBQ wings tonight.

It’s 82 and overcast at present and there is small rain blips on radar.

Time for a walk before it get’s  any warmer or rainy.

Enjoy your weekend and thanks to all who contribute to the Daily. Bruce

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I remember playing in the mud in our back yard as a child - my mom would hose us off and strip us down before we headed into the bathtub.  So glad my camera and phone are all in one!  Scleroderma is a terrible disease; I do hope a cure can be found for it one day.

Constructing the ark has been put on hold and the scuba gear is put away - yesterday afternoon around 5 we saw the sun peeking through the clouds.  This morning there are scattered clouds, but looking at the forecast, no rain for the next week.  Yay!  We can dry out - there's a ton of mud on the grid roads outside the city and you can always tell which vehicles have been out of town by the mud on them.

We enjoyed the cardiac rehab program yesterday which saw us working with 5 pound weights.  Obviously very out of shape, today my thigh muscles are really feeling it.  LOL  I know it was the stand-sits that did it for me, as I've never had strong leg muscles.  I know the more we do the exercises, the easier it will get, so we'll keep at it.  DH is still asleep so I can't ask if he's stiff at all.

A busy day today getting the house ready for us to leave in the morning for Calgary.  I heard on the radio that WestJet's mechanics are on strike, cancelling hundreds of flights, so I hope our DIL's parents aren't flying with them from Toronto (where they went to take a tour of Niagara Falls) on Sunday.  I also had a call from one of the administrators of the Prairie Knitters for Angels group saying they had a huge donation of yarn and want me to take some.  I told them I have the resources to purchase my own, so others can enjoy the gift, but they insisted, so I'm heading out around 11 this morning to meet up with the woman coming in from out of town to pick up yarn.

@ottahand7sending prayers for your DB; issues stemming back from September have gone on far too long - it's time to clear up the infection!

@Seasick Sailorprayers for your friend Belinda for her recovery.

I'm going to give the drink a pass, would like the wine, but it's a bit pricey, and will tuck the soup recipe away for another day.  I did buy enough pizza for last night's dinner that we have leftovers for us to enjoy at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, in turmoil.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Ann, and Dixie for the Fleet Report and Daily.  I’ll celebrate camera day.  Mud Day is great fir kids but I’m well past that stage.  Prayers for a cure or good treatment for scleroderma.  .   Special prayers for Jacaui, Terri, Katherine’s friend, Sandi’s brother, Scottie,  Chuck, and Tana.

A fun quote by Schutlz.

I visited Puerto Chacabuco on MS Prinsendam in 2019..

A sad day in Theatrical history but monumental for Star Trek fans.

I’ll pass on today’s meal.  My alternative is Indonesian Tea goodies as served as served on MS Prinsendam June 2, 2015.

The weekend will be HOT, but I will be out relatively briefly for UPS, Fire House, and groceries this afternoon.

We visited Puerto Chacabuco while on the Oosterdam in Nov-Dec, 2022. It is a tender port and their cruise terminal appeared to be fairly new and in a nice compact design.

image.jpeg.33bb39253a7a13167e91c3bb5da2a

There was free shuttle bus to the downtown area and a tented souvenir site not far from the dock. It seemed to be running about every 15 minutes. All the tour busses, both ship and private, picked up in the parking area right outside the terminal. Overall, a very organized and efficient operation.

They also had some entertainment provided by dancers in the same parking area.

Good morning all!

I'll pass on the mud, although I remember making mud pies as a child.  DH has a great camera and attachments, I just use my iPhone 15.  Scleroderma is a terrible, terrible disease.  Lake Chelan is a lovely area, but I'll pass on the red wine.  We've gone wine tasting "east of the mountains" many times.  I would try the drink, and might like the 2nd recipe (but probably cut the spice even then).  Lots of great port photos today, thank you all!  We haven't been to this port.

Thank you for the suggestions yesterday about my slug problem.  I'm going to get some Sluggo and diatomaceous earth today.  Of course now we're headed for a stretch of dry weather wouldn't you know?!  But we'll get some drizzle this weekend, so I'll be prepared.

Prayers for your DB Nancy @ottahand7

Annie @marshhawk Thank you for the photos of the cats and kittens.  All beautiful cats.

DD and family are now in Yosemite.  That's where DH and I had our honeymoon back in 1969.  It's fun to see her photos of these places I haven't seen in years.  The kittens have been behaving themselves for the most part, and are now completely at home here and relaxed.  I'm just worried about when the booming of the fireworks start 😞  Our neighborhood and town are awful about it.  I'll have as many sound blocking things going as I can, but it's really impossible to block it out.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning and thanks for the daily and fleet report.  I have friends who are boarding the Zuiderdam so I am sure they will be disappointed with the itinerary changes.  I wholeheartedly will celebrate Mud Day as the main reason for the day is a spotlight on sanitation, nature and fun.  I miss my SLR but never really learned how to use it properly and scleroderma is a horrible disease.  I like the quote but I will pass on the food and drinks.  Never been to the port.

IMG_7972.JPG.6833e63a5cd1e417eb060036f45a2f0a.JPG

We had a thunderstorm move in yesterday afternoon; I could hear rumbling that was far away so I opened my door.  The temps dropped and a nice wind was blowing then the rain started - at times it was very heavy.  And then the smell of the desert - Wonderful!!  We have a chance it will happen again today and right now it is relatively "cool" for us - 0900 and it is only 85F.  We might hit 100F but who knows.

IMG_7973.thumb.JPG.c4399541a2ebeaea5c1c4019dd1fdbb4.JPG

I booked a full Panama Canal transit cruise 2025 yesterday as the price just seemed too good to me though I get off in Vancouver instead of San Diego (which was more expensive - go figure).  And that cruise will mean I have been on all of HAL's ships.  Stupid goal, I know, but a goal nonetheless.  Now it is time to save up by substituting again this coming school year!!

IMG_7974.thumb.JPG.432b37f83fbdf50d23aba515b766ed5b.JPG

Thoughts for all who need extra support and cheers to those celebrating.  Have a great day everyone!

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily @richwmn.

Not sure Mud needs a Day. I am a camera fan, and have several. Scleroderma is another bad autoimmune disease that results in fibrosis in the body. Funny quote. I love chicken tortilla soup, often from a restaurant called Max & Erma's. Wow on the drink name, lol. Pass on the Malbec. I have been to Puerto Chacabuco on my SA/Antarctica cruise. A bad day for the Globe Theatre and a good day for Star Trek fans.

It's cloudy out and I heard thunder earlier and we had a spot of rain. Possible severe storms later. It's really humid. I had a nice evening yesterday, but it was exhausting. Lifting BFF's knee scooter into the car wasn't fun; it's heavier than the rollator. I dropped him at the entrance to the country club, then searched for parking. There was also a 50th high school reunion going on, so the place was packed. It was very nice seeing the celebrating couple, their kids, and many of their friends who I've known for about 40 years. So I'm just relaxing today, and may try to take a nap later, even though I slept pretty well.

@StLouisCruisers Sorry to hear about the need for a medical evacuation, your rude awakening during the night, and the itinerary changes.

@0106 Thanks for your photos. I agree that this itinerary was my favorite cruise ever.

@ottahand7 Prayers for a good outcome for your DB this time around. Thanks for sharing your photos from Puerto Chacabuco.

@smitty34877 I always was in awe of those who have more than themselves to feed in their coming up with what to make every day. I hope Tana feels like eating a little more.

@kazu I'm glad you had a nice visit with Jose's BFF. I have so much stuff, that I've started to try to get rid of things I don't use and clothes I probably won't fit back into. Prayers that you get some answers about your leg next week.

@dfish I hope Sue's migraine is gone soon. I like the creamy chicken tortilla soup recipe.

@Sir PMP Thanks for the photos.

@marshhawk Nice to see the kittens and cats.

@TiogaCruiser Good for you on doing the shed. Nice Chacabuco photos.

@ger_77 I can empathize as one of my PT activities is doing sit to standsl I'm so bad I need an extra foam cushion, but I should be able to ditch that soon. Safe travels tomorrow.

@GeorgeCharlie Thanks for the photos and video.

@Nickelpenny Congrats on booking a PC cruise; I'd like to do one again.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

Well, this morning started out badly. Looked out the door to the back porch and there was a da** deer munching away. Gone are the geraniums blooms, red clover, lobelia,  gazania flowers and even the buds on the new fuchsia that was ready to burst open. She was up on the porch, practically in the house if the door had been open. Guess I need to find a stronger repellent. And still no rain. Hope everyone has a better day.

Good afternoon, it's around 80 and humid today.  Some rain is in the forecast for later.  We drove to the lake house this am....I think everyone is headed north for 4th of July vacations.  The highway was very busy!

Thanks for the travel pics.  I'll pass on mud day.  I gave up on my camera...everyone was getting better photos with their Iphones.  I got an iPhone last fall, and I don't think I've used the camera since then.

Prayers for all who need them, cheers for the rest!

@marshhawkthanks for the kitten pics!😃

Have a great day, K

Good afternoon from a still breezy and now partly cloudy central Texas.  It is 95F now, and I'm glad I'm inside.  The mowing wasn't too bad with the 11mph wind, which along with the cooling towel kept me cooler except when the house blocked the wind while mowing the backyard.  After all the rain we got this spring, the grass is now looking brown in many places since it's been two weeks without rain.  I had to increase the number of days I'm watering.  Hopefully that will be enough.  The good news is the grass was not as full of moisture and as heavy as it was with the rain.  I even managed to sit outside for a while with the fan blowing on me along with the wind.

Temptations feeding time...aka late night snack time-

Bob  aka currently Grumpy having to share with the kittens, Momma Munchin the black and white, Tigger.  Bob eats and growls at the same time.

Tazi who will only leave her room to either sleep with us at night, or if she hears Temptations being served, came down and ate her share off the counter, and then saw the butter...

Annie, thanks for the pictures of the kittens and the other cats.  You definitely have a house full.

Thanks for the pictures from your tour and the mudding ones too.  We'd be interested in see the shed when it's finished.

Joy, we also saw four deer when we took our ride last night.  One was a young buck just getting his antlers.  I don't want any damage from Beryl, but it would be nice to get some of the rain though.

Gerry

Gerry, I'm glad your rain stopped for a while, and you can dry out some.  It's good the cardiac rehab is going well.  Safe travels tomorrow.

Carolyn, I wish people would leave the fireworks to the professionals.  We don't have pets now, but I remember how scared they were, and how younger DD was when she was little.  The fireworks stand about half a mile from us has been open for a week now.  I haven't seen any customers when I've driven by, but I'm sure we'll hear from the next week.

Wow, either the deer was very brave or very hungry.

@marshhawkthanks for the kitten pics!😃

Have a great day, K

Karen, enjoy your time at the lake house.  I will use my phone camera at times, but I still prefer my point and shoot camera.  It fits in my pocket, and since I'm such a klutz, I like having a wrist strap that tightens, especially when I'm leaning over the rail on a BHB.

Lenda, from your lips...

There's a huge lot in the next town that always has dozens and dozens of firework stands.  It isn't legal to shoot them off here, but that never stopped anyone.  It's the deafening loudest ones going off at 3 am that really make me mad.

@SusieKIslandGirl Oh no about the deer eating all your flowers!!  I don't know what repellent you used, but a friend has had success with Deer Out.  It has a peppermint oil base.

I went out and bought both Sluggo and the diatomaceous earth today and put them around the plants most bothered by the slugs.  This morning it wasn't raining so not many slugs out, but I did find one in a flower pot -- the biggest, ugliest one yet.  He is no more. 😈

Grocery delivery is so frustrating of late. My local grocery store gives an option of having orders delivered by one of their trucks (so it's an actual company employee) or a shopping service such as instacart. I quit using 3rd parties because of too many mistakes (missing, wrong, damaged etc items). I just received the 4th consecutive order that was not correct in some way - I received a large box of microwave popcorn and some breakfast cakes I didn't order; wasn't charged for them, but I didn't order them and I'm sure someone else is disappointed w/their order. So, using only company delivered orders is clearly not the answer, either.

It didn't take long to get spoiled on having groceries arrive w/o battling heat or rain, but I think the honeymoon is over. Last week, the hot dogs buns were inedible having been loaded at the bottom of a bag with 2 6-packs of canned cokes on top.🤷‍♀️ Now I know "smashed" is an option on the drop down menu 🙄 That same order I was charged for 4-1 gallon jugs of distilled water and a jar of spaghetti sauce that I neither ordered nor received (double whammy).

I think surveys should be sent to people who report/request adjustments on orders so they can learn what's going wrong and maybe be able to prevent some of it. It's got to be costing them quite a bit refunding damages and incorrect orders.

It may be time to venture out again and do my own shopping - of course, the timing is perfect now that 100° days are the norm 🥴

Not a stupid goal at all!  It’s actually one I’ve been trying to achieve myself. Finally in August I’ll be on the Zuiderdam, my last HAL ship.

Congratulations on booking the PC transit cruise. One of my favorites!
