Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

Recommended Posts

We were at that restaurant to meet up with one of Susan’s cousins from Texas, that she hasn’t seen for probably 35 years.  He and his wife were passing through, in the midst of a cross country tour in their motor home.  They have already driven across to the east coast, and up to Maine with many stops along the way.

Susan got three of her sisters and their spouses together, and we all met for lunch.   A nice get together for them, reliving some of their childhood memories.  Our grandson was very patient hanging out with a bunch of old folks.

Of course, he kept busy on an iPad, and we did our part in feeding him health food.

Who says cheesecake is just for desert?  It can be a snack or a meal!

Big cats were not the only things here.

I won’t show the picture of the stuffed polar bear, because that distresses some people.

Hope all are well.

Tonight I will be just like Cinderella—

because when the clock strikes midnight I will be busy. I  will be eagerly texting with my fingers to start the check in process for our September cruise.

Even though we are in a suite and checkin time  does not matter, it keeps the pre-cruise anticipation high.

Be safe.

On Monday night, we felt tremors from an earthquake, epicenter 200 miles from Ft. Worth which is about 40 miles from us.  Jack was already in bed, I was on my couch and felt my body "shiver".  My neighbor said she saw water in her glass shake.  It only lasted seconds. Scary!

Any other North Texans feel the effects? Not sure this link will work.

West Texas earthquake felt in North Texas

I didn’t feel anything and I was sober 😁😁😁😁

Horrible about that plane crash at your airport last Sunday that killed that family from Quebec.  Was it near your place?

Susan says she remembers a plane going over that sounded strange.  I guess they lost one engine and were trying to do an emergency landing.

Thats why I like east coast departures. Midnight is 11pm here so I don’t have to stay up late. For our October cruise in LA I will have to get online before 2am to check in. Not looking forward to that.

One of the most heart-warming things that was said to me recently was my step-daughter sorrowfully saying "I can't believe I have to go 9 whole days without seeing or talking to you".

This brought tears.  I love that you and your step-daughter have each other and she openly expresses how much you mean to her.

@Luckynana  My son drove from Valemount early yesterday morning to Whistler.  He arrived exhausted but his employer has  put him up in deluxe accommodation (with valet parking) for the rest of the week.  The update today from Jasper NP is not good.  Assuming he is not able to return to Jasper, he will travel down to Waterton where he worked last summer.  Yes, my daughter is in B.C. They are seeing each today.

Although, my son slept in his car, I want to say how wonderful the small community of Valemount is - dealing with a sudden influx of thousands of evacuees from Jasper in the middle of night and co-ordinating somewhere for them to sleep (many in local homes) and providing free meals the next day.

Glad I’m not the only one who likes the Key. If the price is right we always buy it.

We love it! We had the key on our last 3 cruises and if we cruise again we will certainly get it.  One instance, among many was we were debarking late and got to the deck and encountered a line at a standstill the length of the ship.  I saw a RC employee and asked where do we go for the key.  He said come this way and took us through a bar and out on to the outside deck down to the where you scan your seapass, they stopped the line and escorted us off. The 1st day lunch in the dining room is the best.

Thats exactly why we like it. I like the Chops menu lunch and the enhanced breakfast menu on disembarkation day. The fact that you can leave at your leisure and bypass the line is great.

Last cruise the last port was Key West so we had to present our passports and get our seapass punched before we could go ashore.  A lot of people booked excursions so they could go through before others.  There were a lot of people sitting around for a long time but the key people got to go first.  We were one of the first off the ship.  Another good reason to have the key.

I've never purchased the Wi-Fi package but may do so for my upcoming trip for various reasons.

1) Is $20.99 a good price? It's "on-sale" (haha) @ 25% off.

2) Will I be able to access NetFlix and my DVR recordings (Comcast Xfinity) from my laptop? I know while in the USA I can but I seem to remember people having difficulties when out of the country.  Not sure if that is still a "thing".

Normally I don't watch TV or movies while on vacation. Even the cabin TV is hardly on except to watch the cruise director's show. But this trip may be different so I'm trying to be prepared.

Starlinks has definitely improved internet.   $21 is probably the lowest I've seen recently.

I say go for it then you can keep in touch and send all of us photos 😁

Just for reference, it is listed at 24.99 for our Utopia sailing next week, and it is listed at 23.99 for each of our 3 Oasis sailings in January.

The plane went down about 100 yards from one of the runways.

We live about 3 miles from it.

With Vienna in financial discord from misappropriation of funds we only have a volunteer fire department and only 4 policemen on the payroll.

But between the airports fire department who have the latest and best equipment being an air force station for C 130s as well as our volunteers as well as other departments near us they were at the crash site within minutes.

The airports fire truck got to site in record time.
The roads were closed.

The plane was a total fireball, and the occupants did not have a chance.

The debris field was a tad larger than the size of propeller plane and its height was less than 2 feet.

I drove by the site after the area was cleaned and the only thing remaining was  a burnt area north of the fence of the runway off King Graves Road.

We found out about the wreck when our friends called to see if we were ok.

Sad,  the rescuers were overcome with emotions.

Be safe.
