CDC Statement on Cruise Meeting
The CDC issued the following statement to Cruise Week this morning:
"Experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and White House staff met with cruise industry leaders and executives to discuss the Framework for Conditional Sailing Order (CSO) on Monday, April 12, 2021.
Cruise industry leaders were able to provide input into the phases of the
CSO, expressed frustration with the requirements, discussed the incorporation of vaccination requirements into restarting passenger voyages, and expressed the need to establish a working group with industry and CDC to work forward to resume cruising as soon as possible.
Cruising will always pose some risk of COVID-19 transmission, and COVID-19 vaccines will play a critical role in the safe resumption of passenger operations.
Cruise travelers represent a global population, and as more people are fully vaccinated worldwide, the phased approach of the CSO also allows CDC to incorporate these advancements into planning for the safe resumption of cruise ship travel.
CDC is committed to working with the cruise industry and seaport partners to resume cruising following a phased approach required by the CSO. CDC and
 
DHS senior leadership will begin meetings with cruise industry leaders starting this week.
The objective of the meetings are to mutually review the top priority issues of the cruise industry to work out implementation details of the CSO, including the impact of vaccines and other scientific developments since the CSO was issued in October 2020.
This goal aligns with the desire for the resumption of passenger operations in the United States by mid-summer, expressed by many major cruise ship operators and travelers."

Great negotiation tactic.  I think they're attempting to throw it back to the cruise industry for opening cruising up outside US ports.

I might guess that these discussions might finish September”ish” with trial cruises to follow and first paying guests around November 1st?

They could have just said - though i don't know whether it would stand up to a court challenge or not - that Americans are banned from going on cruise ships forever due to ongoing Covid and get Biden to sign executive order. And also that cruise ships will not be allowed within U.S waters or in U.S ports. Period end of story.

The good news here is that the White House is involved.  The CDC are a bunch of bureaucrats who will never do anything worthwhile in their lives.  If the Biden Administration wants cruises to happen, they will.  Hopefully they are seeing the political value of restarting the cruise industry.

And who is in charge of Health at the White House.  Yup, Dr. F who has no clue what is going on either.  He just took his policies to a different place.  And I still do not get why if the vaccine is so good why the masks are necessary.  As soon as I put one on I can't breath.  There are studies (nope, cannot list one but have read them} that show the mask does not work and if worn for long enough time the collected bacteria can make you sick.  IMHO

Time to either wash your mask if washable or buy a new masks.

Thank you for sharing this info.  It is a step in the right direction.     Happy to hear they are now listening and agreeing to sit down with cruise line executives and their experts.

 

Of course other posters will turn this into another political and no mask thread.

I’m not sure this is good news. Your 2nd sentence perfectly defines Biden.
