Weymouth near Falmouth

I am a bit confused.  Isn’t Weymouth about 3 hours by car from Falmouth?

We visited a Abbottsbury Subtropical Garden and a swannery in Weymouth when our ship docked in Portland.

I've never had Hollandaise Sauce as a meal,

I like that the MOD has expanded to include sauces, side dishes and desserts.  These things can make a plain meal more exciting.

I was just going to post my confusion too on Weymouth.  We visited Weymouth from nearby Portland, but Falmouth is far from Weymouth and Portland.  162 miles by car to be exact!

Good Morning,  thanks for today's daily fleet report.  Last night's dinner in the Tamarind was excellent.  Santi made sure everything was well taken care of got three meals.   I hope we see her again.   Customs was a breeze for me, just my picture and done.  DH bought a ring do had a pit stop. We were not allowed to remain together which was new.  I didn't like that at all.

The security line was long and slow but we made it through.  Now it's a three hour wait for our flight.

I find that odd that you were not allowed to stay together  - I'm used to hearing "you're together? Ok you both go there." At least you made it through.

It would worry me, though, if one of us was prone to confusion - separating might induce a memory lapse...

Safe travels home.

Good morning everyone!  Another cloudy day here with gusty winds.

Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports and the maps Jacqui and Roy.    I'll celebrate whiskey day tonight after dinner.  I have several to choose from but I guess since one is a whisky I better choose the bourbon whiskey.  A funny quote today.   Thanks for the photos of Falmouth @grapau27 and @StLouisCruisers.

Vanessa thank you for the cares and celebrations list.  Prayers for the poor immigrants who perished just doing their job on the FSK Bridge.  Kudos the MD Transport Police for closing the bridge so quickly, it was scary watching the last two cars and a semi crossing the bridge and getting off right before the bridge strike.   Prayers for everyone on our care list, @JazzyV I hope you got some sleep last night.   Prayers for all in war zones, Ukraine and the innocents in Gaza.

I got sick of waiting for the Tours by Locals guide in Papeete to reply so I contacted one of his colleagues.  Her English is Advanced versus Fluent but she has an 8 passenger van for 6 max for the tour.  I already have 2 couples interested in our very active roll call.

We are heading out after lunch to take a couple of pair of shoes that need repair and probably hit the local casino and go to our favorite dumpy tavern for dinner.   We don't eat there much because we aren't in this home much.   I got a lot of my plant list done for my talk but I put the photos aside for awhile.  It is hard to go through them and weed out some and then get so many happy memories of a lifetime ago.   April is a rough month for me many years.    Have a lovely day!  Nancy

Good Wednesday Morning Dailyites!  Currently the computer says its 54 and cloudy.  I would override that, and make it foggy.  It's trash pick up day, my most unfavorite day to walk the neighbors dog, and I'm in luck, her mom stayed out too late last night playing pool, and is staying home today. Thing is she works for the state and is off Friday too, so my little dog walking gig, is not paying off for me the week at all.

I'm back to watching Midsumer Murders on Roku, finally made it to season 22, half way thru and then the last season.  It's taken three months to watch all them all.

DH wants me to call his boss to see if I can work for him for a couple of weeks, but then I realized, I have things to do.  Like since the mirror in the bathroom fell off the wall, I get to repaint the bathroom, and then hang a new mirror, and get back to a normal bathroom.  I can now start cutting down all the vines and "trash" trees in the front yard.  Cut the ivy off the pines, and clean out drawers and closets, and kitchen drawers and closets, and get rid of STUFF.  I am almost looking forward to that type of work, and maybe see some of my old book club friends.

And maybe I can learn to sleep in a bit in the morning.  I doubt it, but it's worth a try.  Today is a 6 hour day.  Being the last week, I need to follow up with folks who wanted later in the day call backs.  I'll work 3 hours, take off for two and work 3 more hours until 10.  Which is 7 California time.  I am one of 9 "morning" callers.  which has always worked well when I'm selling opera, but not so much when I call theatre.  Different type of person.

Have a great day everyone.

@dfish I use the same type of Hollandaise that you do.  It's very good on salmon.

Thank you Rich, Jacqui, Vanessa, Ann, Dixie, and Debbie, and happy Hump Day.  Red Cross is very deserving, my handwriting has always been more of a scribble, but I'll pass on Whisky Day.

I like the Fred Allen quote.

I visited Falmouth just once, in 2015, on the Elegant Explorer.

St Augustine is an interesting city and I will especially celebrate a great day in medical history.

I'll pass on the meal.  My alternative is Strawberry-Banana-Blueberry, Thai Chicken and Forbidden Rice Soup, Boneless Lamb Loin, and Linzer Torte as served on MS Zaandam March 27, 2017:

dishes27.jpg

A drizzly morning in central Maryland but I did get my walk in.

Maryland flags are at half mast until further notice in honor of the 6 souls lost yesterday.

Good morning Dailyites

I hope you are enjoying your hump day. Thanks to all who give their time and effort to making this the go to place!

Vanessa, I pray your pain is better today. Thinking of Tana and all on our cares list.

I had dreams last night of the bridge collapse. I watched it so many times on tv yesterday it just stuck in my head. Prayers for the 6 lost and their families.

The prescription for Jardiance is on hold. Express Scripts wants to talk to the doctor before allowing the script to be filled, darn it. Allen's sodium is still low, so continue with the sodium tablets.

Thank you @Niagarawine for thinking of us. Alaska sounds wonderful. It's been a few years since we went. Enjoy Mendenhall and take care!

@Crazy For Cats I would not be happy getting split up. What's up with that!

Today will be car wash, gas, and oil change. Dinner tonight will be chicken cacciatore which was going to be last night, but our friend brought over a pot of delicious black bean soup last night, still hot from the stove.

Blessings to each of you today. Be kind.

Rain today, more tomorrow, 40s-50s. Hopefully we won’t have flooded roads on route to eye doctor tomorrow.

@aliaschief Thank you for your service, and Welcome Home!  I hope your visit to Ankar Wat is superb!

We visited Falmouth and the area for a week in 2015 for a heritage immersion, DH’s grandfather came from Mylor Bridge. We took the foot ferry, just like Sandi’s picture, across the bay one day and walked from there to the church, about 2 miles. It was a lovely, the path went through some manor land but walking through was permitted. I’m so glad we made that trip, so meaningful. But I never want to rent a car in England again 🤦🏼‍♀️. It I didn’t die in a hear-on with a lorry on those tiny country roads I thought I’d die from a heart attack. Otherwise, it was a fabulous visit. Thanks for the photos!

My brothers wife was responding well to treatment until last weekend but is now not eating or taking fluids. Talked with niece last night and doctor suspended radiation this week to see if she rallies. I told my niece if there’s anything she wants to say to her mom say it soon. In the busyness of the battle it’s east to lose sight of why we’re battling. Tough days.

Glad River is rebounding!
Scarlet fever?  I hope we can still treat that!
Best wishes for @Mr. Boston and DH on the Lake Shore… I love trains!
Blessings to all away or heading out this weekend, smooth travels Terry, and a smooth time for Tana and the household.

Still absorbing the bridge collapse. Blessings for all the families of those lost, all the rescue workers. I found some of our photos from going under the bridge on Carnival Legend in 2022. Grandkids, view from aft. IMG_0648.thumb.jpeg.5307746030c57f4f10a4a2db3f8c3538.jpeg

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  We frequently contribute to the Red Cross and appreciate all the work they do for disaster relief.  I've always had good handwriting, but notice lately it's deteriorating; must be a sign of age.  I'll appreciate Scotch whiskey but will leave the rye and bourbon for others.  I wonder if Ponce de Leon knew it was Florida because of the number of Diamonds International stores?

Another clear and chilly morning out there again; we're currently at -17C with a wind chill of -26, but are expecting (hoping?) for a high of 0 today.  We'll see.  The boys next door were home from school yesterday and were enjoying the mounds of snow in their front yard, turning it into a sliding hill that ended on their driveway.  It's amazing what you can still do with some snow and a cardboard box.

My heart goes out to all in Baltimore - what a terrible thing to happen.  Blessings on the first responders and prayers for the people who lost their lives.  I don't know how many times we watched the bridge collapse, but like @Seasick Sailorit was in my dreams last night.

@kochleffelI've been meaning to ask how DaVinci and Mona Lisa are doing - are they becoming more sociable and accepting of you as their staff?

@aliaschiefdid they actually cut and serve the jackfruit/durian?  I'm surprised it was even allowed on the ship, as it's such an odiferous fruit!

Well we now have a countdown started . . . in 585 days we'll be boarding the Oosterdam in Barcelona for another trans-Atlantic cruise.  I took advantage of the HIA Early Booking bonus and booked us on the itinerary that includes (hopefully this time) Casablanca, Morocco.  The bonus includes the Elite Bev Pkg, Premium Wi-Fi and Crew Appreciation, which is nice.   I told DH once we get him fixed up, we're good to go, and if a good deal appears, we can take advantage of it, but this one's happening for sure.

This afternoon DH has coffee with his band mates so I'll take advantage of the time alone and do some house cleaning.  He tries, but doesn't have much energy, so after he runs the swiffer around the living room, he's finished.  As a result, in his absence I'll vacuum everything and dust and do the glass surfaces as well.  I try not to do too much while he's here because he feels badly that he can't help, so when he's out of the house I have to go like mad to get things done.

I'd like to try the drink of the day, will let others enjoy the white wine, and am not a real fan of Hollandaise sauce, so will pass.  Because I'm going to be going full steam cooking for the family for the next 4 or 5 days, tonight we're going to do fast and easy.  Currently I'm thawing a batch of turkey soup that we can enjoy along with cheese croissants(DH will pick those up on his way home) at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, and in turmoil.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

Happy Hump Day to all and thanks for the daily and fleet report.  I used to have beautiful handwriting but now I do scribble a tad, I will celebrate the American Red Cross as the organization does fantastic work, and maybe tonight I will have a whiskey and caffeine free diet pepsi!  Not a fan of hollandaise sauce so I will pass, and will pass on the drink and wine.  Never been to Falmouth, England.  I love, love, love the quote.  2 good days in history.

It still be a tad cool today.  Presently sitting at 43F and maybe reaching 70F this afternoon.  I know now why I love being retired - sort of.  I worked all of last week and only had the weekend off.  What?  How quickly the weekend goes and it is WAY too short.  I have to remember NOT to schedule subbing this way again.  Though I am having fun!  The reading specialist came in to work with several of the kids during all of my classes.  As she was leaving during one class, she told me what a great job I was doing with the kids.  I told her I wasn't trained as a teacher - that I am a RN - and the look of astonishment on her face was apparent.  She thought I was a retired teacher.  She made my day!

ScreenShot2024-03-23at06_55_17.thumb.png.fbc673be9d7e5c623cd7a01097168082.png

My PCC finally got back to me and I saved over $1000 on an upcoming cruise.  I dummy booked it and it was significantly cheaper than when I booked it over a year ago.  I have to make some decisions as final payment is not until August!!

Thoughts for all on the care list and those around the world who need support.  Cheers for those celebrating and everyone have a great day.

I like today's quote.  My handwriting has always been a scribble.  Chickens scratching in the dirt are more legible than my handwriting.  As far as whiskey day, I will drink to that.  I agree with Gerry, I do prefer the scotch, but I am an equal opportunity sort of guy, so I will also support the other whiskeys, but whisky will always be #1.  A balmy 5 degrees F this morning, but hopefully will warm a little before the day is over.  Have a good day all.

My photos were definitely Weymouth but the port was PORTLAND in Dorset.

My mistake SORRY.

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I'll salute the Red Cross for what they do in disaster areas. I don' scribble and I'm not a big fan of whiskey. Funny quote. I don't like regular Hollandaise, but maybe this is different. The drink looks good and pass on the wine. I have not been to Falmouth. 2 good days in history.

Rain has finally stopped after all day rain yesterday. I don't know if hydroplaning was a cause, but there was a terrible accident between an 18-wheeler and 2 cars. People in the one car were ok, but 5 people in the other car were killed, including an infant. I'm very sleep again today, after about 3.5 hours of sleep. The contractor called this AM and the cleaning crew won't be here until next week. I'm still working on the dining room. I have 2 built in cabinets that flank the fireplace, and the glassware in them is dusty and needs to be cleaned (and maybe some gotten rid of). I've taken some ibuprofen for my poor overused left leg, so hopefully it will feel better.

@StLouisCruisers Thanks for the nice Falmouth photos.

@Mr. Boston Nice of you to help out your replacement.

@RedneckBob Enjoy snorkeling in Grand Turk!

@grapau27 Nice photos from Weymouth. No worries on it being Portland as the port.

@aliaschief Bruce, that was quite the spread!

@Crazy For Cats Safe trip home. I've mainly traveled with BFF and we've never been separated.

@Niagarawine Sorry to hear you need knee surgery. I was told I do too, but with upcoming back surgery, the knee is on the back burner.

@RMLincoln It sounds like you have great memories from that heritage immersion. I'm sorry to hear that DSIL has had a decline. Hopefully she rallies with holding the radiation a while.

@ger_77 Congrats on booking that TA.

@Nickelpenny Obviously you must be a talented teacher. even though not trained as one. Great on the cruise savings.

Prayers for the Care List and a Toast to those Celebrating.

As I often travel only in my dreams lately, I too looked up where we were and we were in Portland . At least my addled brain recognized the quay from the pictures. Sorry for the confusion.

I did enjoy the cream tea.

Good morning from a beautiful, sunny Quartzsite.  At the moment there is no wind.  I hope it stays that way, so I can spray the weeds that have popped up since the last time I spray.  Then, I won't be spraying until next fall.  It was 50F when I got up about 40 minutes ago.  We're heading to a high of 78F this afternoon with 7mph winds in the afternoon.  Otherwise, DH and I will be adding towel bars to the motorhome.  There was only one in the bathroom, and it is not big enough for two bath towels and two hand towels.  We'll also be cutting a board which will be another self in a very tall cabinet with only one shelf.

The American Red Cross does some amazing working after disasters.  My handwriting can still be pretty good when I write slowly and think about what I'm doing.  Otherwise, it can be a scribble that even I can't read at times.  DH was a day early for International Whiskey Day, as he finished a bottle of Jamesons last night that he'd been working on for a while.  But he does have one more bottle.

The Fred Allen quote made me smile.

We'll pass on the "meal" but if I ever make Hollandaise sauce, it would be Debbie's @dfish third "recipe".

We have not been to Falmouth, England.  It was a port on the 2022 Coral Princess world cruise that was canceled because of you know what.

I imagine our Florida Dailyites will celebrate the 1513 discovery of Florida by Juan Ponce de Leon.  The first non-direct blood transfusion in 1914 by Dr. Albert Hustin led to many lives being saved.

@Mr. Boston Safe travels tomorrow, and enjoy the train ride.

@Crazy For Cats Have a safe flight home, Jake, and welcome home.  We have never been separated going through US Customs at the end of a cruise.  That is not a good practice.

@grapau27  Thanks for the great pictures of Weymouth, Graham.

@smitty34877  Terry, I can attest to the fact you never outgrow the love of or the need for chocolate. 🍫 Safe travels to New Hampshire on Friday.

@dfish  Debbie, I'm glad River is better.

@Niagarawine  I'm sorry you will need knee surgery.

@Seasick Sailor  Joy, I hope the doctor can convince the insurance company that Allen needs the Jardiance.  It's time the medical establishment put the patients needs ahead of the bottom line.

@RMLincoln  Maureen, I'm sorry your DSIL had a setback.  I hope a week without the radiation treatments will help her feel better and also eating.

@ger_77  Gerry, good news on the cruise booking.

@Nickelpenny  Pennie, how nice of the reading specialist to compliment your teaching skills.  It's always nice to save a chunk of change on a cruise.  Congratulations.

@JazzyV  Vanessa, I'm sorry you are still not getting a lot of sleep.  That accident was horrible.  Our condolences to the family and friends of those killed.

Thanks. Just got from my snorkeling by boat tour. Beautiful day. Snorkeling and coral just ok. I give a 3.5 out of 10. Most of coral is bleached. I’m guess I jaded from snorkeling at Bonaire and the South Pacific.

Good morning everyone.  Thank you, @JazzyVVanessa for putting our Coco on the care list.  There was quite a scramble last night to find her antibiotic.  I'd read there is a shortage of the common childhood antibiotics.  They did find some in the county last night, so hopefully she is on her way to healing.  Also, Vanessa, it was darling seeing your photo yesterday with Dr. Spock!

We visited Falmouth in the spring of 2013 on a Princess transatlantic.  We took a tour out into the countryside and what I remember most is the River Fowey and seeing a house there that is said to be the inspiration for Toad Hall in Wind in the Willows.  We were blessed with gorgeous sunny weather and the day was a very special one.

I don't scribble, do like whiskey, and admire and support the Red Cross.  They do amazing work.

It's fun to see a tropical drink today as summer is coming.  @dfish, I used to make a "Blender Hollandaise Sauce" that was pretty good.  Haven't thought about that in years.

Gosh that buffet looks amazing, Bruce.    What a cruise you are having!

I am traveling to New Hampshire on Friday to visit DS and family for Easter. I had a good laugh as my DDIL told me that chocolate bunnies were welcome gifts for my teenaged grandchildren. I was informed by the teenager who lives here that chocolate is something a person is never too old for. I guess I better get to the store for bunnies today.

Have a great day today.

That's a crack-up about the chocolate, Terry.  Reminds me to head on over to See's.  DD will be disappointed if the bunny doesn't deliver a chocolate egg.

I clean like a whirling dervish when DH is gone, too.  Glad I'm not the only one!

Speaking of DH, his cardiologist  ordered another echocardiogram to measure his heart aneurysm.  The doctor says lots of people have them and often they don't get bigger.  I think it's scary, though.  It's close to the size where surgery is indicated.  Sometimes I wish they'd just go in and fix it right away.  It is invasive surgery, though.  So we just follow doctor's orders.

It's a nice sunny day here in San Diego.  Many thanks to our Daily team and all contributors.   Our care list will be in thoughts and prayers.  Wishing everyone a safe and happy day.
