Celebrity Edge's Blocks Are In The House!

The ladder and steps might not be permanent but that walkway certainly is, and the view to the water will be blocked, perhaps more even than it is blocked by lifeboats. Obstructed view for sure, in my opinion. In fact, even the staterooms on the decks above will suffer from diminished views due to that walkway.

Yup, there is going to be a bit of a ledge there but it is impossible to say it’s an obstructed view. Are the aft cabins on the S Class ships obstructed because you can see all the cabin(s) below? I think not. From the pic it is hard to know how wide the ledge is. It could be 1 or 2 feet wide.

Could that white square on the slanted dark area be a hatch that would allow only crew to access that area? If you look at the picture of the starboard side, both sides may have the hatch to allow crew to climb onto the window washing device I see in the starboard picture. My feeling is the width of that ledge is 5 or 6 feet. Actually, you can't look straight down to the water from any balcony except the iconic suite (directly over the bridge). So I wouldn't consider the view from these cabins obstructed...sorry. fd3db93e9716f39e696fec4b6e0ed3da.jpgb069dbddf7f4dbf3ea7e017a80e6dc62.jpg

Probably wouldn't be able to see this tug boat.

Warning: Lloyd just trying to find an excuse to post tug boat photos. ;p

I like this view, it gives us a good idea how far the MC sticks out. I was wondering if they would have to dock with the MC away from the pier, on what feel like narrow docks like in San Juan, especially if next to an Oasis class ship. When we were on the Freedom the Oasis was next to us in San Juan and it felt like we could reach out and touch some one.

I think the ship can be docked on the starboard side... the rail for the MC appears to be tucked into the side of the ship from deck 4 down to 2. And above the area that sticks out only sticks out to the edge of the ship. the MC itself will likely be on the pool deck when the ship is pulling into port. I do wonder if there will be 'rules' or some type of policy regarding under what conditions the MC will be moved. I wonder if there are high winds will it be closed... or perhaps it will only be used when stopped or the ship is moving slowly. I can not imagine eating on the MC with 8ft swells and if it is windy it could be unpleasant even for drinks. I would imagine that the team is probably going to be trying to figure this out when they test the MC in Sept. I hope I get the opportunity to see this thing in action.... but not enough to get a cabin on this side. Only time will tell if this will end up being a flash in the pan or wave of the future.

On Celebrity all med-Evacs are already my basket. Copters don’t land on the “helipad” but it was often in use for parties, sailaways and even, rarely for dinner.

Yes. 😊

On S-class ships the bow/helipad area is accessed via deck 6. At the forward end of the deck, port side, there is a locked door which leads to a restricted area. Guests, by invitation only, are escorted through this area to the bow for sailways, etc.

It will probably be the same with the Edge, if any guests will be allowed on the bow.

I also think the Bow looks very cool and sleek. I would think that the newer ship with these types of bows may have the ability to dock in more ports/(piers) that are tight. It is probably more evident in cases were the ship has to dock with the bow facing the town. For example, visualize an Oasis class ship docked in St. Thomas.

Nice Tug Boat photos Lloyd. I noticed the matching colors, navy blue and the orange :). Coincidence ;)

Wow, the bow is small! I don't see a helipad.

No more bow views by pax. I'll miss those views when passing some of those magnificent sights.

I guess all med-evacs will be by basket.

Sorry, this post made me laugh :D

I just think that the ship resembles a hippo or a dumpy faced whale or something. Beautiful in their own way, but stylish --- nope !

And as for the magic carpet in orange --- oh dear.

Oh well, at least she seems to have survived the sea trials so far and no doubt she is beautiful on the inside ;)

PS LOVE how the funnel lights up with the X symbol - brilliant

-eroller. - Thanks again for this insight. After carefully looking over the deck plans and the recent closeup photos from Lloyd, I changed my cabin to one of those. The other reason for the switch is, for every four series of the S2s on deck 9 and 10 the middle two have a pole/rod on the balcony. Is it a big deal? No, but given a choice with little or no obstruction I would choose no obstruction. Plus having recently cruised on MSC Seaside in a Grand Suite with a great interior but one of the worst balconies I have ever had, Edge will be a huge step up in balcony and other things.

You're welcome and congrats on the new cabin. Sounds like a wise move.
