Why does everyone think the CDC is going to suddenly turn tough . We have the new wimpy CDC being run by our government the ones that go into meat plants with hundreds of sick people and say things like oh if you want to do this or if its feasible or if you think can do this . Then leave just leave and do nothing . So why would they all sudden turn tough on Cruise ships. Somewhere they decided oh we don't have to be tough anymore . Its just the suggestion CDC.

If you are talking about the pork processing plant in Missouri, yes, 340 odd employees tested positive for Covid. And Every. Single. One.  was asymptomatic which means they weren't sick.

Pick anyone you want but this one was in Nebraska  . There are so many plants all over the USA . We have one in TN that just went from under 100 to almost 400 sick .

Because when it comes to cruiselines they have “turned tough.”  They have actually set a mandate on the cruiselines that are not just “suggestions”.  There are real requirements they have to meet before they can set sail.  There is “No Sail” order in place.  That is not a suggestion.

And eventually that may be the course we take.  More and more I hear about herd immunity from scientists who think this may be the way out and the only way that will happen is if the majority of people interact with each other and are infected, while the most vulnerable and at risk remain quarantined.  Personally, I think this is what will happen  unless a miracle therapeutic is available to the general public by fall.  I still don't think it's a good idea for a cruise ship to become the guinea pig for this.  One outbreak on a ship and the cruising industry is finished.

Not all of the meat packing plants are US owned.  Smithfield’s is owned by the Chinese

I still need to figure out the right thing to do with my Ovation 8/7 sailing, because final payment date is this week.  Long story short, I have a non refundable deposit down for 2 cabins (family of 5), and have paid approximately half the total cruise fare via installments over the course of late last year - yes, an interest free loan etc but helps me stash money away for a trip.  There is zero chance I am taking the family on a cruise in August, so what is the right course of action?  Can I get the money above/beyond the deposit refunded, then apply the deposit amount to a cruise in 2021?  That would be ideal at this stage.  Interested in what I could/should do.

We're did you get the info on hotel reservation. I can book anyplace, hotels.com, spend a bit of time on road, even during full lock down. Never have an issue.

Looks like Disney believes they are going to follow Carnival. They announced during their earnings call yesterday that DCL would be the last of their entities to reopen & it would be in "a couple of months". That would put it some time around August. Shanghei Disney is reopening May 11. Disney cast members have started returning to work at Disney Springs in Orlando. That means Disney Springs is getting close.

I wonder if the CruiseLine’s could bypass this and start to leave from the islands themselves. I don’t think it would be good for them in the long run but if they are so convinced the US gov and CDC are unfair and it’s so safe to cruise (or the risk aren’t as great as we are being told) -  their ships are not registered in the US and so can CDC enforce it. 
On the flip side - if they did this and had an outbreak the passengers would be pawns in a game of nobody wanting to bring them back on their land.

They can definitely do this but the Caribbean does not have the infrastructure to support all the cruiselines launching their ships from their.  There aren’t enough hotel rooms precruise.  They don’t have the flights to bring that many people in and provisions for the ships etc.   
 

Also if without CDC approval, the USN and USCG may not be so willing to help in the event of emergency.  The caribbean nations navy’s typically consist of one small boat at best.  
 

Bottom line is without US support cruising around North America is nearly impossible from a logistics standpoint for the larger cruise ships and could be dangerous from a health perspective.  Smaller ships could launch from Caribbean islands, but the Caribbean cannot support all the fleets of all the cruise lines, at least at this time.

 

I don’t think the risk could be any less than what the stats suggest.  When 21 people die from the Ruby Princess our of 2600 passengers.... that’s just not good.

If you cancel now you will get all of the money paid over and above the deposit returned to your credit card.  100% of your deposit will be returned as a FCC to be applied and used by Dec 31, 2021

Are "the islands" (not sure which ones you are referring to) even allowing visitors from other countries?

I don't think what I wrote is a good idea or even feasible - My point is if the cruise lines feel the Gov is not playing fairly and their thoughts are cruising is safe done in whatever way they have researched and plan to impose, then they should look at other alternatives. I don't personally believe that is the case and that anyone can be convinced of it - and so my idea will not happen. 

 

It's rumored that some Islands are opening for business - not sure what kind of services  and what they feel they can or will offer to visitors.

I love the perspective.  We have a short cruise scheduled for the end of August.  Just a weekender on Navigator.   If it gets the go ahead to sail, we are ON IT.  I am fortunate, I don't have to fly to the port, it is a short drive for us.
