Detailed start up plans released by Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line

Recommended Posts

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line has released detailed plans for their shipboard operations.  Included is closing of 2 passenger decks to reduce the passenger count by 40%.  There is no mention of guests being required to wear masks at any time.  Probably a good indication of what other cruise lines will be coming out with.

New Procedures:

Embarkation and disembarkation:

  • All guests required to practice social distancing from valet parking to terminal check-in
  • All terminal staff members will be monitored and required to wear masks and remain behind safety plexiglass for minimal contact
  • Passenger luggage will be disinfected prior to onboard delivery
  • Mandatory touch-free temperature checks and pre-boarding health declarations for all guests
  • Extensive sanitization and disinfection processes at entry of port terminal, ships, and passenger walkway areas
  • Online check-in for guests, who will receive designated arrival times at cruise terminal to streamline embarkation and minimize crowds in port

Guest accommodations:

  • Sanitization of all cabins with hospital-grade disinfectants
  • Fogging of vacant cabins and twice-daily wipe down of hallways
  • Disinfection of guest bathrooms with heavy-duty alkaline cleaner
  • Timely housekeeping cabin turnover with sheets and linens cleaned and disinfected at sterilizing temperatures

Common areas:

  • All onboard public areas will undergo a two-tier sanitization process, which includes cleansing and fogging using hospital-grade disinfectant. Frequency includes elevators every two hours and public areas and facilities up to ten times per day
  • Frequently touched areas, including handrails, table-tops, and door handles will be sterilized every hour
  • All floors will be disinfected with a heavy-duty neutral PH floor cleaning solution
  • All onboard areas will include fully stocked self-service hand sanitizer stations

Food hygiene:

  • All restaurants and bar areas will be cleaned and sanitized three times a day
  • Self-service buffet stations have been suspended; all food and beverage will be served by crew members wearing face masks, hats, aprons, and gloves
  • Tables and seating areas will keep guests six feet apart to facilitate social distancing
  • Stringent procurement guidelines will be enforced, and products from certain regions will be prohibited

Entertainment and recreation:

  • Theatres will be thoroughly sanitized before and after each show
  • Kids’ Club facilities will be cleaned twice per day
  • Spa and gym areas will be sanitized before and after each use, including common areas within these facilities twice daily
  • Tour buses for excursions will be reduced to 50 percent capacity, sanitized frequently, and tour operators will be trained using guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO)
  • Casino players per table will be restricted to ensure social distancing and slot machines will be positioned to separate players

Practices and standards for crew members:

  • Twice daily temperature checks
  • All frontline crew are required to wear face masks, and all food service crew serving guests in the buffet are required to wear disposable hats, aprons, masks, and gloves
  • Housekeeping and food and beverage crew are required to wear both disposable gloves and masks. The disposal of all gloves and masks will align with the CDC’s guidelines
  • All crew will be required to use antibacterial hand soap for at least 20 seconds to sanitize hands
  • All crew members are required to practice social distancing, and each crew member will be allocated their own cabin onboard the ships

Medical center:

  • Isolated wards available in the medical center for ill guests or those who are concerned that they have been exposed to COVID-19
  • Contaminated items and medical waste will be properly sealed and disposed of according to the CDC’s guidelines
  • Used face masks and protective equipment will be disposed of at designated central collection points
  • Medical equipment and waste bins will be thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and washed twice daily with hospital-grade disinfectants

Fresh air ventilation system:

  • Implemented a fresh air ventilation system to ensure healthy air quality in all onboard cabins and common areas
  • All air filters and cooling coils will be thoroughly checked, cleaned and replaced as needed

This is pretty much a waste of time in my opinion. It might stop a few symptomatic infected people as long as they have an active fever but does nothing to prevent those that are Asymptomatic. Who knows the link Asymptomatic to infect others?

Who is going to fill out the health questionnaire honestly?

My opinion

Everything that is written down is what is expected by the crew as to what they are doing....................If the crew is wearing masks........................You can book it that the passengers are going to be expected to wear a mask.

Don't think otherwise or you are just kidding yourself.

The closing of 2 entire decks.............well how stupid is that if you want to spread out people..........lets just jam all the people together on the rest of the passenger decks........what a joke.

Interesting article but it left out some important information.

As @sandebeach mentioned, nothing about whether this plan has been approved, and nothing about whether Florida is openly accepting cruise pax (no quarantine, etc.) or whether the Bahamas have agreed to accept cruise pax.  You can probably assume that all of this has been authorized, but nothing in the article mentions these "outside" factors.

By this date Millions will be returning to Florida and the then open Amusement Parks, which along with most Businesses will be open. Well, ones that didn't go Bankrupt.

Maybe we live in a different wold now.  If you get sick on the ship and then you tell the truth, perhap's you'll be responsible for costs and may be liable if others get infected from you.

Looks like a good starting plan to me.  Will be difficult on the crew who will have a lot of additional cleaning responsibilities.  Hopefully, they will be staffed accordingly.

Certainly won't stop all infected people from boarding but as you say, might catch a few who are symptomatic.  Not perfect but better than nothing.  It's about managing risk, not eliminating risk.

Other than passing in the hallways, no issues with every cabin on a deck being occupied.  Might make it easier on the crew to provide extra protection to fewer decks and definitely reduces crowding in common areas.  Maybe those closed decks are used by crew (now one per cabin) and/or for isolation if an outbreak happens.

Nobody on this planet has yet to explain how you get a respiratory virus infection from surfaces. How do you breath in a virus on a surface... makes zero sense.

Latest thinking is that surfaces may not be a transmission method for this coronavirus but many, many epidemiologists on the planet previously believed, and communicated frequently, that you can transfer the virus from a surface to your hands and from there to your mouth or nose.  Hence, wash your hands and don't touch your face.  As far as I've read, that's still not completely ruled out.  Manage risk.

It's really quite simple.  Somebody sneezes into their hand, then touches a surface (let's say a railing) with that hand, causing some of their sneeze droplets to be deposited on the railing.  Another person then touches that same railing, getting some of those droplets onto their hand.  They then touch their mouth/nose, providing a way for the virus to enter their respiratory system.

And yet that link has never been proven. It's one of those stupid assumptions that are made like staying at home reduces infections.

Just because you get corona in your mouth doesnt mean it gets in your lungs. It cannot replicate in your mouth. It needs direct access to your lungs. This is what the CDC seems to be coming to the conclusion on.

Basically its aerosol based and you breath in the vapour particles which is why N95 masks work.

I never said it's been proven. I was responding to your statement that it has never been explained how it could happen.

Also, people touch inside their noses in addition to their mouths.  That seems like a pretty direct path to the lungs to me.

Surface cleaning has always been about bacteria because it infects you via the mouth and ingestion. It's like wearing a face mask whilst handing raw chicken... nobody does it.. they wash their hands!

Some bacteria lives in your throat that if it gets in your blood you can die from it. Just shows you how specialized these pathogens are. Just like how Noro needs to be ingested not breathed in...

Now the CDC even says it's unlikely to be the reason for infection...

And yet cruise lines are going to focus wiping surfaces lol...

Dont have a clue...

I'm with you from a C-19 perspective.

However Noro is fecal-oral transmission.

ETA: to the topic at hand, at least it is plan to start with.

They did not say that.  They only said it was not the primary source of infection.

So many people misinterpreted their "update" that they had to issue a press release for clarification.  Person to person contact is still considered the primary source, but in no way is surface transmission eliminated.

You know, that doesnt sound so bad.  If a similar plan goes in for RCL, im in.  i see no mention of passengers wearing masks which is really the only showstopper for me.  but if that isnt a requirement, everything else seems ok by me.

You would never be able to track how your contracted it. The only way is if you live in a bubble and you let an infected person into your bubble. Once outside that bubble, you can contract it from anything and everyone.
