Waiting for Cancellation!!!!!!!

Currently booked on the Summit - Boston to Fort Lauderdale (repositioning) , leaving Boston 10/17/20.

We all know that this cruise is not going to happen.  All cruises on Summit have been cancelled up until this one (Bermuda and Canada destinations).  The "possibility" that the ship will travel from the Bahamas to Boston, pick up whoever is  left, and sail to the ABC islands and land in Florida, is getting less and less likely.

I am willing to wait to see if this will be cancelled and can get the 125% FCC to put towards our 4/23/21 (fingers crossed) on the Equinox.  Not eligible for lift and shift - only repositioning cruise out of Boston in 2021 is 7 nights, Boston to San Juan - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Can't  believe this hasn't been cancelled yet - just want to get on with my life and look forward to 2021.

Sorry.....................just had to vent!

I understand.....cancelled 5 trips (3 cruises) in the past 4 months.

Unbelievable!  What's more "fun" is working on getting the refunds.  That's becoming a full-time job!  Maybe there's a new career path ahead of me.....

I realize you are waiting for the 125% FCC, but if this is causing you so much stress, why not just cancel now and get 100% FCC? I have a 22 Oct 2020 Apex TA cruise which as final payment due 25 July and I cancelled last week. Will most likely be cancelled but gave up waiting to see if X was cancelling prior to final payment and was Not going to make a final payment and have thousands tied up. Many deposits are $900 so your 125% FCC would be ~$1,125. Is the $225 worth it?? Unless of course you made full payment already.

I'm not stressed - already paid in full, final payment was due last week, but I had paid it long before that.

Already had one TA cancelled in April, Odyssey of the Seas cancelled for January 2021.  Need to get excited for my next cruise, which will hopefully be next April.

Thanks for letting me vent

We have about $5K in FCCs, were in the process of using some of those for final payment on a September sailing when that was cancelled.  So then we planned to use them for a early December cruise, which looks now unlikely to sail.

Next bookings are a April B2B  (Asia & the TP) which looks Iffy as to whether they will sail.  Final payment is in December and is $11K in addition to the FCCs and with  celebrity having already gone 9 months with no significant revenue  I’m not sure how long they can continue to pay refunds.  So unless there is a reason to believe the April  cruising will be cancel  before final payment.

I can understand people waiting for cancellation to get the 125%...

However, I think this can be a false gain...We moved our cruise from October this year to September next year at a slightly reduced cost, deposit transferred. At the time we moved (a few months ago now) there were a wide range of suites at all levels available, now there is one sky suite only at an elevated price.

Our initial cruise still hasn’t been officially cancelled but as the Silhouette is still in the Caribbean and our government is advising against cruising it isn’t going to happen. So people who have waited now for cancellation will get their 125% but may have a limited choice of rooms for next year and those rooms may be at an elevated price.

In the meantime we have been getting on with enjoying our Summer, no stress no worries...

We did the same think. Made final payment last week expecting the cruise to be cancelled. Then we can use the 125% FCC on our Apex B2B in March (god willing)

Making final payment waiting for an upcoming 2020 cruise to be cancelled?  Just for 125% FCC?  That is gambling I think.  I would not risk it personally.

Anything regarding cruising is, at the moment, risky. 😉

Final payment for our next cruise is due in a few days. We are prepared to sail, so we will pay. The chances are very slim that the cruise will happen. When, or if, it is cancelled we will just apply the 125% FCC to our next cruise in Spring of 2021. We view it as an investment, not gambling.  YMMV.

mduffy1834,

We’re in exactly the same situation - not optimistic about this cruise or our bookings on the Reflection(1/25 & 2/5) being able to sail. The 125% fcc will probably take as long as the refunds from our cancelled cruises, but shorter time than a full refund at this point. This will be the fourth Summit cruise cancellation this year(5/19 & 5/29 & 8/16) and this one.

Given that Princess has already cancelled everything until December, how far behind are the rest of the cruise lines going to be?

We were both sad and relieved that Princess finally cancelled our November Singapore to Sydney cruise. We are looking forward to being both sad and relieved when Celebrity finally cancels our two Asia cruises which would have brought us to Singapore.

US Americans may remember an ad campaign for now defunct department store Mervyns, in which a woman would be at the store early in the morning, peering through the glass door, and chanting, "Open, open open!" I feel like that lady, only my chant is, "Cancel, cancel, cancel!"

Appreciate anyone's help on this ?

We have a non-refundable deposit ( $ 200 ) on a cruise in November with the final payment due on Aug 8.

If I cancel now, I know I will lose the deposit.

What happens if I do not pay the balance by Aug 8 ?

Can I assume they will not automatically cancel our reservation ?

If so, If the cruise line cancels the cruise at a later date, am I entitled to a FCC for the $ 200?

Lastly, I understand that only one FCC can be applied to a booking .

Is that true ?

Thanks

I do not know your specific contract and if there is a TA involved (if there is, call and ask them), but normally......well, under the current situation, you can cancel your cruise right now and your $200 deposit will become a Future Cruise Credit that you can use on a future Celebrity cruise.  I was told by my TA that when I got my FCC notice, which could take a month from cancellation, I’d have a year to make reservations on another Celebrity cruise that this FCC would be added to.

So that is how I understand it is working. If you pay your final payment and waiting for the Line to cancel, you could be full refund back on your CC, but that’s how most of this is working.

I have held off on booking new cruises because getting the refunds is such a pain.  I don't want to book a new one unless I am sure it is going to go.  Three cancelled cruises for us this year.  The airlines are not playing nice either in the refund department with the exception of Southwest airlines.

For most I have gone to challenging the credit card charges.

If you booked with a travel agent, call them to find out your options.  If you booked direct, call them.  I certainly wouldn't make any final payment for a November cruise.  You can cancel, cruise with confidence, and move your non refundable deposit without penalty to another sailing and/or get an FCC for the $200.

If the cruise line cancels before final payment, you will get your $200 refunded.

It's my understand you can use more than one FCC to be applied to a booking, but your TA or Celebrity can give you a straight answer.  🍷

Your mileage may vary on this one.  I read in the FAQ's somewhere that I can't find now that you can only redeem 1 FCC per passenger per reservation.   I took note as I just cancelled a B2B in Nov and like @Pinboy had a $100 pp NRD deposit on each.  I was thinking that I could apply both $100 FCC's to my next sailing but not if they are strict with the rules.

While searching FAQ's for the reference for 1 FCC per passenger per sailing came across this that I've never heard before.  They will allow a 1 time transfer of a FCC to another guest.

May I transfer my FCC to another guest?

Yes, we will allow a one-time transfer of a Cruise With Confidence FCC to be used for a 2020 or 2021 sailing.  Deadline to request transfer is September 30, 2020.  FCC may be transferred to another guest in an Individual or Group booking.

Recently, we received FCCs for a canceled cruise (one for me, one for my wife). Had no problem applying them to a January, 2022 cruise. The rules are:

Booking Conditions:

Redeemable towards cruise fare only. Guest is responsible for taxes and fees where applicable. Not valid on Complimentary cruises, Incentive bookings, or Charter sailings.
One certificate per person, per booking, and valid only for the person noted on the certificate.

We were pretty much the same. We lifted and shifted to Feb 2022 as we really don’t see the cruise product being the same in Feb 2021 even if it sails. Holding on would have entailed booking flights to Hong Kong and back from Singapore, and booking Raffles Hotel with payment up front. All we would have done was worry, not worth the stress. We moved and saved £30, kept all our perks, and moved from M class to S class and were able to receive a cabin on a different deck due to the difference in layout from M to S class, we did not want deck 3 on S class below the night club and casino. Probably a lot less choice should we have waited. The cruise was already around 30% dearer than we paid so a FCC of 125% would have ended up a loss. There are times in my view it’s just not worth waiting for Celebrity to cancel, all depends on individual circumstances.

My personal view is to not make final payments for at least 2020 cruises and just Lift and Shift or do whatever you have to do not to send Celebrity more money, and substantial money at that,  at your risk.  Just me and my conservative view- I am not much of a risk taker.   But think about the 125% for a moment.  Are you really getting much for risking your money?  Many cruises albeit not all have gone up in fares to a point where 125% might be break even at best.  It is a one way shell game.

We look at the lift and shift as only taking the risk of losing our deposit of £300 maximum, even if the cruise lines go bust ( which I don’t believe will happen with Celebrity ). I would personally not be making a final payment for any cruise just now, too many unknowns.

Which shows you can't use more than one FCC per cruise per person. Folk were hoping to stack them up for one person.

The rule seems pretty clear to me although I can understand the desire to stack and trade!!  I applied our FCCs on the Celebrity website and it only accepted one FCC code per person; couldn’t force-fit anything else in there.

Or, that 125% could completely cover the cost of a cabin previously booked in a higher category. Works for me. Imo, it's not a shell game, it's more like playing chess. 😎
