Good morning! A busy day with final laundry, a trip to pharmacy, yard work and more packing. On top of that I slept in so behind already.

Yesterday’s ribs turned out great as well as the homemade baked beans, slaw and pineapple crisp. Fell off the I’m on a diet wagon.

So it’s finish the coffee and let’s get it done.

Thanks Rich for the report and a heartfelt thank you to those who gave all.

Greetings all. We had an uplifting visit from granddaughter and her DH. The men got an electrical receptacle working while DGD and I took a walk. She thinks they’ll be back in 3 weeks!  She wants to help get us sorting through our stuff, prepping for our next move!  I think that’s a little premature but I’ll gladly accept the help!  And the visit!  They are planning an MSC cruise with DGD’s in-laws and family for a 45th anniversary celebration out of Brooklyn in early December. I’m looking forward to learning from their experience!  I shared Graham’s encouragement with them!  Thank you Graham, and also for Fr David’s message!

Today the flag flies….  at least inside the condo sunporch window. My dad was a WWII veteran. Several cousins were in Viet Nam. We were more fortunate than too many. 🫡

DH has been able to cut back on the antihistamines, yay!  But his eye pressure readings have been high. He’ll have tests and a consult with his glaucoma specialist Wednesday. Aug 1 surgery feels a long away off. Thank you all for your support !

@marshhawk rest as much as you can!  We are 2 for 4 on bringing home COVID from cruises, in spite of all our very best efforts to avoid it.  We’re planning to get new boosters later this week, when we can afford to be on the couch a couple of days if necessary. 🤒

Waiting to hear from @Denise T and if it was clear enough to see some of the scenery from the train. Hoping it clears soon for her.

Sad to hear of the wildfires in NS. It is so heartbreaking.  Blessings to all in need of healing, comfort or hope.

Cheers for all the celebrations!  You remind us that Life is Good!

Safe travels to those away, patience for those delayed. And Bon Voyage to our cruising buddies!

Thanks for the Puerto Montt photos Sandi. We were there in 2013, same places on our private tour also, but your weather was much better!  We didn’t see the volcano, it was hidden in the low ceiling rains.  The lake had white caps from the strong winds. The falls were a soaking walk but the food and wine were memorable!  Loved visiting the village, Puerto Varas, very European feeling!  Interesting contrasts.  I liked Chile.  Good memories.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!   A safe Memorial Day to all as you pause to remember those who fought for freedom.  Since our green bin rollout, many people in our city are learning about composting.  I appreciate the fact that along with the blue paper/plastic recycling bins, it has reduced our garbage output by more than half.   I had no idea what 529 day was, so thanks @rafinmd for the explanation.  Bless the peacekeepers all over the world.

It's looking like a beautiful sunny day out there right now, and we're expecting a high of +25 (77) which will be very comfortable.  The rain from yesterday morning tapered off by noon and around 5:30 last night we took the roofless car out for a spin around the city and stopped for ice cream.  We got back into the car and DH remembered that he had nowhere to put his milk shake - no drink holders.  LOL  So we sat in the parking lot enjoying our cold treats until his was done.

Not a lot on the agenda today, but I think I overworked my dominant hand yesterday trying to crochet as much of a blanket as possible because this morning it's rather stiff.  I might take a couple of days off from crocheting and work on reducing my fabric stash by sewing drink coasters for gifts.

I would like to try today's drink suggestion, as I love fruity margaritas (strawberry is my fave), and finally, a wine from our younger years - Chianti!  Does anyone remember the Chianti bottles in a basket that you used for candle holders?  Ah, great memories.  I'm sure we'd like today's menu suggestion as a salad in the summer, but I've got a bunch of vegetables in the fridge that will be turned into a mixed veggie salad topped with small pieces of cold barbecued pork chops that we'll enjoy on the deck tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

WISHING ALL A PEACEFUL AND THOUGHTFUL MEMORIAL DAY

P1020311.thumb.JPG.27bc4d49b715754ce7ef435194bb0cc5.JPG

Good morning from a partly cloudy central Texas where it is 72F with a predicted high of 84F.  Sometime between my first post yesterday and last night, the rain that was predicted to begin yesterday afternoon and last through Wednesday disappeared.  Last night, I turned the sprinkler system back on, but that didn't bring the rain, and neither did washing the cars.  🤣

While we don't compost here, our younger DD composts and uses it in her garden.  The 529 plan provides a good way to save for college educations.  The UN Peacekeepers deserve their day of honor, and unfortunately, there are too many places in the world that need them.

The Lily Tomlin quote made me chuckle.

I like the looks of the first recipe, but I think I'd substitute Parmesan cheese for the Feta.  The drink might be nice if it's not too sweet.  I'm pretty sure we had the wine in the Canaletto before and liked it.

We were in Puerto Montt in 1999 on Noordam III from Valparaiso to Fort Lauderdale by way of Cape Horn.  We took a ship tour that went to Puerto Varas, which does have a distinctly German look.  Our guide told us it was settle by Germans who emigrated to Chile.  Sadly, all my pictures are non-digital.

Rich @richwmn, thank you for including Tenzing Norgay along with Edmund Hillary in the mention of today in history.  For too many years Norgay was overlooked, and some feel he was the one to reach the summit first.

@dfish  Debbie, both the burnt orange and the cranberry sound nice for your front door and trim.  I'm glad your walk did you a "world of good" and I hope you can slowly increase your distance each day while still not overdoing as you recover.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, no problem.  I'll be glad to post the link(s) to tomorrow's port so we can find our pictures.  Have a safe trip home, and if it turns into a two day drive, I'll be glad to handle the links on Wednesday too.  I enjoyed your pictures from Puerto Montt.

@smitty34877  Terry, I'm glad Tana was able to join everyone on the deck last night.  I'm sorry the smoke from others' firepits bothered her though.  Hats off to your wonderful neighbors who assisted in getting Tana to the deck and back.

@kazu  Jacqui, I hope they can get the wildfires in Nova Scotia under control very soon.

@RMLincoln  Maureen, it sure is nice to have a handy DSIL.  Ours is always willing to take care of things we can't do anymore.  I'm glad you had a good visit with your DGD.

@ottahand7  Nancy, thanks for the great pictures of Puerto Montt.

Good morning, all!
I compost on Salt Spring, but here in town the strata council frowns on compost bins, for some reason.😉 However, I take all the SOFT raw veggie waste (peels and trimmings) and run it through the Vitamix with water. The resulting ‘smoothie’ is poured around the plant roots. It disappears completely into the soil, and the plants love it!

Puerto Montt is beautiful. I would love to spend one of our winters, which is their summer,  there in the Lakes District. We were there on the 2020 GWV before, well, you know. It is roughly the same distance south of the equator as Seattle/ Vancouver is north, and the climate and vegetation is strikingly similar. Just seasons reversed.

Today is day two of ‘normal’ life. I have a hair appointment this morning. My last actual cut was at Christmas. Salt damage from oceans around the world will get trimmed away. That’s one souvenir I’m happy to let go of!

Happy Monday, everyone, and cheers to those aboard our BHB’s!

Good Morning Everyone, thanks for today’s daily report.  It’s another beautiful day and cooler than yesterday.  I’m taking a break from yard work. Trimmed some bushes and doing lots of weeding, a never ending task.  Today’s meal suggestion sounds good if I substitute the feta with another cheese.  I hope everyone has a nice day today.

Lucky you were on the GWV.  I've been working on Cabin Fever and that's where Zaandam's troubles really hit the fan.

Good Monday Memorial Day Morning Dailyites!

My dear neighbor left us breakfast at the back door and then called me to let me to know it was there.  I didnt pick up the phone because our conversations never seem to end, and today I didn't have the strength.  I was also trying to boil eggs and make potatoes O'Brian on the stove.  Now the taters will be served with dinner.  Which DH will have to make.

I have only been sleeping about 4 hours a night the last two nights, and I am sleeping sitting up on the sofa.  I am just about to go down for a nap now.  Just a final clean up of the kitchen.

We put out food for the cats and all sort of other creatures eat it, and I want to put out the compost material to feed them too,, but then DH thinks I am purposely feeding the wildlife....hmmmm.

Off for that nap.

Good morning.

Happy Memorial Day to all.

May we all remember those who made the supreme sacrifice with their lives so that we can be free.

Thank you to all who contribute to this thread and get us going every morning.  It is really a great place to be every day.

I really appreciate all who contribute to this thread.

I was very grateful to all of you who gave me suggestions on tours and things to do in the ports.  I am still trying to pick up some ship cruises but Oceania’s website is still under maintenance for the weekend.  Since it is a holiday no one has decided to get it up and running today.

Will keep trying.

I have a few things to do around the house and then I will get busy with working on the cruise ports.

Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day.

God Bless,

Terri

Good morning all!

A big thank you to those who gave all.

I've been composting for years, and have 2 compost bins that I use for the garden.  Weeds are put in the big green compost bin that the waste company picks up weekly.  Both 529 Day and Peacekeepers Day are worthy days.  I think I would prefer the last recipe (the salad) with the fresh spinach vs cooked spinach.  Will pass on the red wine and drink.  We'll be in Puerto Montt on the South America/Antarctica cruise in 2025 -- a big thank you for all the photos!

No plans today other than more yard work and then some housework (notice how I put the yard first) 😉

Terry @smitty34877 SO glad to hear that Tana was able to get outside yesterday with the family.

Annie @marshhawk I hope you're having a mild case and feel better soon.

Jacqui @kazu Our roll call is waiting for the excursions to show up too, and our cruise is in January.  But yours haven't yet at 4 months out -- geesh!  It seems to be getting later and later with every cruise.  We have many private tours booked, but a lot more ports without plans so far.

Terri, have you heard of whatsinport.com?  I've used it in the past for information on ports and it can be helpful at times.  I just tried plugging in Sweden, then Karlskrona and got some good info.  I had to turn on adblocker though because it is loaded down with ads otherwise which can get in your way.  Here is a link to what I found.  Hope the adblocker is still off for you.

I am happy to report that we were able to eat outside last night with the whole family. We enjoyed the beautiful  weather, good food and each other until smoke from several firepits in the neighborhood  started to bother Tana. We invited our neighbors  for dessert and coffee. It was the least we could do to thank them for all of their help.

That is great news!  👍

All other shore excursions have been up for months.  Only HMC is missing.  GRRR.  One roll call member called a month or so ago and they said it should be up ‘shortly’.  I guess my definition of shortly and theirs is different 😜

Joy, are you psychic? I have not mentioned it on here. It so often falls on Memorial Day, I never want to detract from that.  But I have started my new year.

Happy Birthday to Ann @cat shepard!

My DS had his birthday on Saturday. He told me once when he was very young that  he thought the Holiday was for him. He went to DC with my oldest brother to see the Vietnam memorial when he was about the age his children are now. He understood the importance of the holiday after that.

I have seen that.  I also found out that there is a HOHO boat and we would like to do that.  I am just trying to figure out where to pick it up.  We are in port from 12 noon to 8 pm.  The Naval Museum is closed for the Summer due to the conflict in Ukraine.  I will say no more about that!

The HOHO Boat seems to be a good choice there.  I have printed out the info from that website for a number of those ports.

Thanks for that info and the ad blocker tip.

Also consider a cranberry red door. My neighbors actually did their house in a deep green with a cranberry door and it is striking.

That is a color we are considering.  The neighbor across the street favors that one.

I don't think we can go wrong either way.  I'm being careful in my recovery.  This surgery was a bit more involved than the last one and the gall bladder last June.  I do still have twinges of pain, but I am mostly off the pain meds.

I am resisting the urge to go out and weed the garden.  I keep telling myself it hasn't been done in 16 years, no need to rush out there right now. I think it would be too much tugging on the abs right now.  I managed 1.2 miles today.  I do stop and rest often.  My goal is to be back doing my 2 mile walks by the time I see the surgeon for follow-up.
