donaldsc Posted September 12, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 12, 2019 I hate sea days. There is no way to tell you how much I hate sea days. My best-of-all-possible cruise would have zero sea days. DON
TheOldBear Posted September 12, 2019 #3 Share Posted September 12, 2019 Considering our most recent cruise and the one leaving this Sunday are round trip crossings, I think that would indicate a preference for sea days.
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 12, 2019 #4 Share Posted September 12, 2019 We like both. Sea days give us a break from busy port days.
leaveitallbehind Posted September 12, 2019 #5 Share Posted September 12, 2019 (edited) Balance of both with 2-3 sea days on a 7-day itinerary being ideal to me. Just did an 11 day repositioning a few months ago with 6 port days and 5 sea days. Very nice combination of both IMO. Rare Von & John Posted September 12, 2019 #6 Share Posted September 12, 2019 Need the sea days to actually relax! Trips are selected for the itinerary & ports visited. More & more sea days are important to us...
racnwdow Posted September 12, 2019 #7 Share Posted September 12, 2019 Arrrgh! I accidently voted for sea days. I much prefer going to a different port every day. I get bored to easy on ship and my ADD kicks in.
Rare puppycanducruise Posted September 12, 2019 #8 Share Posted September 12, 2019 Most of our cruises have been to Europe, and itinerary is important. Our next cruise is 12 days, 2 sea days. That's good for us.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted September 12, 2019 #9 Share Posted September 12, 2019 I mainly cruise for the itinerary and ports, so port days are important. However, I do like an occasional sea day to relax and refresh -- to get ready for the next batch of ports. About 1 sea day per 4-5 port days would be my preference.
Heidi13 Posted September 12, 2019 #10 Share Posted September 12, 2019 On most cruises we prefer a balance of a few port days, followed by a relaxing 1 or 2 sea days. However, I am also comfortable with sea days and would enjoy a relaxing 4 weeks at sea with no ports.
Rare Drock20J Posted September 12, 2019 #11 Share Posted September 12, 2019 Depends on the ship. When I have been on Enchantment, Jewel, or Adventure (RCCL) I could not get off the ship quick enough! On the Oasis class ships, I could never get off the ship and be 100% okay with that!
RocketMan275 Posted September 12, 2019 #12 Share Posted September 12, 2019 I prefer port days because port days are far less crowded and we can enjoy the ship. We have nothing against sea days, they're rather nice, but too many people on the ship. BTW, we seldom do excursions because we enjoy the almost empty ship.
Rare ontheweb Posted September 12, 2019 #13 Share Posted September 12, 2019 Since we pick cruises for the ports, I voted for port days. Sea days are fine too. Actually DW used to not like sea days at all, but now also likes them. Still I had to vote for port days.
chipmaster Posted September 12, 2019 #14 Share Posted September 12, 2019 Cruise are vacations we take maybe once every year or every other year. I do take many vacations per year, it is all about the ports and desire to do a a port / day or 6 ports in 7 or 8 days. Beats doing that by land, nothing in life or vacation is optimal as a port per day is sometimes too short, and mostly just enough, so all about the ports
angie7911922 Posted September 12, 2019 #15 Share Posted September 12, 2019 I like my cruise to be divided in port and sea days. Because when we are in port, we feel it's a shame to stay onboard with a world to be discovered outside. So we tend to need the sea days to relax and get ready for the next port day. lenquixote66 Posted September 12, 2019 #16 Share Posted September 12, 2019 Port days for me.I can relax at home .If I open my front door I will be in the same place every day.
sverigecruiser Posted September 12, 2019 #17 Share Posted September 12, 2019 I prefer days at sea. Even when we are in port for a full day we are normally back on the ship for lunch. Not because we have paid for the lunch but because we prefer to be on the ship.

jocap Posted September 12, 2019 #19 Share Posted September 12, 2019 Best of all are sea days travelling through scenery, such as the fjords..
Cruiser_1977 Posted September 12, 2019 #20 Share Posted September 12, 2019 I like both! I could take a cruise to nowhere or a trans-whatever....However, I also enjoy visiting places I haven't been, or for which I have an affinity.

navybankerteacher Posted September 12, 2019 #23 Share Posted September 12, 2019 Of course it depends on the ship and the ports. If I were somehow on a cruise with stops at Freeport, Falmouth, Nassau and the like, I would stay on board. On the other hand, if I wanted to see Rome, Venice and Paris, I surely would not book a cruise stopping at Civita Vecchia, Livorno, and Cherbourg - I’d take a land trip. If I were on an NCL ship, I’d surely want to go ashore to get a good meal. Our next cruise is in December on QM2 - primary motives were to have someone else handle the holiday hoopla, and to get away from Northeast chill for a bit without having to fly (or drive much more than an hour). Having been on all the islands, the key decision to stay aboard or go ashore will depend upon the weather and our mood each morning.
Kartgv Posted September 12, 2019 #24 Share Posted September 12, 2019 Ideal for us would be 2-3 port days followed by 1-2 seas day to rest and relax, then repeat. Can't do too many port days in a row any more. The most sea days we've had was 9 days, (Yes, in a row!) on a LA>S. Pacific>LA cruise. That was a little much, though it really didn't get to us until about Day 6.

I know that one of your reasons is to try local food but I don't care about that. I want to relax and don't think that it's relaxing to try to find the best local food. I have eaten great food in Barcelona too but that was before the cruise when I needed to find something to eat.
