So after checking out of the hotel yesterday, we headed out to the Osaka Station to find the platform where our Nozomi - Japan’s super fastest bullet train will take us to Hiroshima. We got reserved seats for the 9:02AM train so we had to make sure we get on the right car. It’s 200 miles to Hiroshima and it took less than 1 1/2 hours from the Osaka Station to get to the Hiroshima Station (It was still rainy). From there, we took a local train to get to the JR Miyajima Ferry to take us over to Miyajima. The clouds were started to lift by now and we could see glimpse of blue sky. The ferry that ferried us over to Miyajima. The O-Torii Gate is to the left of the picture. The O-Torii Gate from the ferry Made it to Miyajima. We strolled through the town where many vendors are. It was very packed with tourists. Oysters is the popular food here because it is farmed here. This was at near low tide at 3:15. People started walking out to the gate. Afterwards, we checked into our hotel- Miyajima Seaside Hotel. Welcome to our humble abode Looking out The view from our room window Our dinner at the hotel During your dinner, your room is set up for bedtime. Beautiful photos. I read the link he sent me, where it is suggested you do the walk in two stages with an overnight in beautiful Leura which sounds ideal. Nope, DH wants to do the full 20km walk in one day. Me “but I need to go slow for photos!” plus I love Leura…I’ll have to convince him. That is pretty ambitious for a day hike, especially over uneven terrain. I would spend a couple days, enjoying the scenery along the way, rather than rushing to finish in a day.

True but It’s because he wants to do an specific overnight hike next year that is a solid 20km each day (you can’t split it) and he wants to see if it’s do-able.

Rare Sea Dog Posted March 27 #117968 Share Posted March 27 Just got through binging Netflix's The Gentlemen. I thought it was excellent. I always admired Guy Ritchie's work. We then moved onto Netflix's 3 Body Problem which is a sci-fi thriller from the guys that brought you Game of Thrones. I am really liking this one. Deep and some amazing characters. I highly recommend these two.

Seriously? 😄 And they say California is weird. LOL. When we had the almost full solar eclipse in 2017, everyone went to work and school, and we just paused our day and went out to look at it for a while. (with eclipse glasses) There was a lot of hype here, too. But it was just a regular day, with an event. You can get photos, if you take them through the lense of the glasses. And yes, we usually do have fog in August. Edited March 27 by Coralc

Started watching the doco & then decided watching it 2 weeks before a 15hr long haul flight is not a good idea. 4

How do food prices compare to here? Can you tell or with everything in japanese it's hard to figure out? Yes, we did try some. They were very good and fresh. I would say food prices are fairly reasonable here due to the exchange rates being very good right now and prices for food at home has gone up so much that restaurant have no choice but to raise their prices, too.

When did eclipses become such an “emergency for safety”. In my life I have lived through multiple ones (5 I can easily think of) without losing my sight and 2 of them I was in grade school. Rules for eclipse haven’t changed, I guess society has just gotten dumber. With warnings in coffee cups I guess I should not be surprised. 6 hours ago, Coralc said: Seriously? 😄 And they say California is weird. LOL. Afterwards we went to Alcatraz.

It's because they expect thousands of people to travel to our area to view it, which will cause massive traffic/crowding issues. And this eclipse is a bigger deal than most since it's total. Still seems like a bit of overkill to me - I guess I'll find out on 4/8! https://www.fox4news.com/news/eclipse-total-solar-eclipse-traffic-texas Edited March 27 by TravelGirlinDallas 5
