From Mr Bayley - NO buffet

Recommended Posts

From another site an interview with Mr Baley

"I think in the beginning, there will not be a buffet in the beginning, that's how I see it. It depends again upon the timing. We will utilize the space, we will utilize the Windjammer, but in all probability it won't be a classical buffet. It will be something more akin to a restaurant."

Hmm...  "More akin to a restaurant" is pretty different from what most of us were imagining.

Of course the real problem is the guests packed in the WJ (and MDR) at peak times, not the manner in which the food is served.

I "think" being the operative word, not very definite.  From what i read on other sites it seems that he had no real answers to any of the questions or wasn't giving anything up yet

Yep. He had nothing to say about nothing.

I am sure they will make it so we can socially distance!

Its not gonna work. It never does. How can you distance away people traveling with families? The same goes for dinners and places of mass accumulation of people like swimming pools, clubs and casinos. A few feet away from someone wont really help if there is at least one sick person on board. Moreover, I heard that thing travels in the air, so I doubt that any social distancing measures will help in any way

I can see using it as a restaurant with wait staff in order to spread out people more.  Probably with a more varied menu than the MDR has.  I also think we'll know when they announce what the plans are.

I also wonder, why are people who are so sure the cruise lines are just money grubbing, cruisers at all?  I get tired of reading how they're only out for money, well, yeah, it's a business. If it's such a problem, don't cruise.

I listened to him today, nothing is for sure.  They are still looking at options on the best way to proceed.  My guess (and only a guess) is the WJ will offer a ton of options as always, but the staff will bring you the food instead of you picking it up yourself.  Until it is totally decided, no one really knows.  Since we will cruise the second they let us, guess we will find out!!

Not insurmountable if you have 50% capacity onboard; but the big Oasis class ships have always struggled with WJ capacity and long lines to get in at peak times.

I can see a Food Gallery concept like Virgin working...but NOT with existing space and infrastructure on ships.

Well please let us know what the on board experience is all about.

At least he acknowledges it is essentially a trough in its current form.

Possible the best post of the day.

Just drove by the Golden Coral buffet in my area and is has sign out that it is opening on May 25.  Might have to finally try it just to see how they manage the buffet

Things might be changing on land and at sea.

Wow, I'm surprised. I thought they might go the way of Sweet Tomatoes and just fold up and call it quits.

Will be very disappointed if they do away with the WJ.....Why can't they just use servers like they do when there's a Noro outbreak onboard ?

I too would be disappointed to see WJ buffet go away but suspect it would be temporary.

I have heard on alot of tv shows this week that buffets at restaurants on land will probably all be stopped for now.  This was on Dr. Oz show today. Local news channels and food network

They are showing restaurants installing temporary walls , plexiglass, shower curtains etc etc between indoor tables.

Talked about the need to stop people from grabbing their own silverware from counters no more shared condiments, salt n pepper shakers or bread baskets.  All kinds of changes to come our way on land and at sea.  Hopefully they will be temporary.   I think I will enjoy having the extra space while dining.  I hate being crammed in like sardines at some restaurants.

I saw the interview and it was, in my opinion, concerning.  He was clearly back pedaling and misdirecting most questions.  He has no answers for the shareholders, TA or customers.  He does not have a time line to return so clearly June 12th is not a return date.  He stated only cruises to CC in the beginning so that eliminates almost everything but cruises out of FL.  No buffet? Are you serious?  Most people get their breakfast lunch and sometimes dinner from WJ.

On behalf on Windjammers everywhere, I'm offended. But on behalf of cc posters, that's some funny stuff 🙂
