Covid-19 Testing

Starting in September, Costa cruises is going to do sailings (only with Italian guests, but it's a start).  They will do mandatory covid testing in the terminal before you get on the ship, a rapid test (who pays for it, I don't know).  

 

Would you take a test before getting on a ship if it was mandated?

 

I am asking because I really want to know peoples' answers.  My position is, yes, I would take a test if I could cruise.  

 

There are many of other positions because of false positives and negatives, etc.  And who would cover the cost of getting home/cruise if the test was positive?

 

Just throwing this out there; please be nice with each other.

Once there is a vaccine I would be willing to bet that most countries will require proof of vaccination to enter their country.  That would do a away with the need for a test

I agree with this and go a step further to say proof of vaccine will be required to board even if the ports visited do not require a vaccine. A proven vaccine will eliminate the need for testing. Until that time my cruise days are in pause mode. I can't see a nice cruise vacation experience until that time.

Yes, I would take a test if it meant I could cruise, take a flight, go to a restaurant, etc. I’m okay with following new rules in place to keep people safe.
I’d wear a mask to and from places. No masks while eating and drinking. I’ll social distance and do whatever it takes. We don’t have at risk people at home, so we worry less about bringing it back. I would not want to get my family sick or someone else sick that we don’t know. We limit grocery store trips, and try to preorder groceries for pick when able to. Doing our best.

To your first question Yes. /  Second question I really don’t think the cruise lines will pay the cost for you to get home. 

I think the cruise lines will be offering Insurance. In case it happens.

Exactly the same for us here in the UK. I'd even say having got back from Madrid the other week, that the Spanish are even more Covid aware and cautious.

Well, maybe not. If the vaccine ends up being less than 100% effective, a vaccinated passenger might still have it and another vaccinated passenger might still catch it from them. The FDA says they would approve a vaccine that was as little as 50% effective.

 

But hopefully if that's the case vaccinated people will still be somewhat protected in that they would only get a mild case. If it turns out you can only get a mild case once vaccinated and everyone onboard was vaccinated, maybe catching a case on the ship wouldn't be that big a deal.

 

(It might be a big deal on the flight home though, where presumably there would be unvaccinated passengers)

Will Not do a test before boarding.

 

The tests are not universally accurate. And if I test positive, what are the consequences - the loss of many thousands of $?

 

Not spending my after tax income in this manner.

 

Will do driving trips and escorted tours without all these restrictions, when and IF such options become available.

If we were to go on a cruise before a vaccine was available, we would have no issues with taking a test, as long as we would get FCCs for the cruise if one or both of us failed the test. As far as who pays for our transportation home, it would be us as we would be driving to/from the port anyway.

 

There is no way we would fly to a cruise port to go on a cruise before a vaccine was available. I can just imagine what the airlines would say if we had to tell them we just failed a COVID test trying to board our cruise. Something tells me it wouldn't go well and we would be stuck there trying to figure out how we're going to get home.

 

BTW we have a B2B booked on the Ruby leaving out of San Francisco in early Jan 2021. The only way we'll go on that cruise is if a vaccine is flowing threw our veins and something tells me the odds are running pretty thin on that happening.

We will take a rapid result test several days before leaving, so we can cancel if it is positive, and then if we go gladly take another one at the dock.

 

I've sort of incorporated this into my mental cruising "checklist" for the foreseeable future.  Along with masks and social distancing (which we sort of do anyway on our cruises).

I won't take a test.  I have nothing against being tested. However,  given the current false positive, false negative, accuracy factors,  a negative test result does not indicate anyone is truly negative.  If exposed to the virus and still within the incubation period for it, a negative result would mean nothing to me.  I love cruising but will wait for at least a vaccine and/or effective treatments.

Yes, we would take the test and get the vaccine. I don't think we would get on a cruise if this was not mandatory for each and every passenger. I know some folks say they can not have the vaccine, but who knows if that is really the case, and if so, well, then I am sorry that they may not be able to travel. Just got our flu vaccine yesterday, trying to be proactive about all the healthy things we can do to protect ourselves. This may be too harsh and I hope to not get a lot of nasty remarks, but it is my humble opinion.

I don’t think that most countries will require the vaccine to enter their countries. So you will not be able to get on a train, plane or ship without proof of vaccination

If you won't wear a mask, don't worry about the test, because you won't be allowed to board. I think the mask will be mandatory for at least a year if not longer.

How would anyone know they cannot get the covid vaccine when it is not available yet? Asking for a friend! I have COPD makes it hard for me to breathe some days without a mask  but I still wear a mask.🙂

Some people with compromised immune systems can't get vaccines.

My wife and I have breathing issues and wearing masks is very difficult for us but we wear them anyway.I should add that I am disabled and the only time I am out is when I go to a doctor as I did earlier today.

I also have an a compromised immune System. Not judging anyone .
