The Fleet Report and Daily for Sunday August 27th, 2023

@lobsternight  Bon Voyage!  🍾🛳️

@Cruzin Terri  so happy to hear your PMR is improving.  It sounds like a wonderful trip you are planning in Italy.

@richwmn thanks for the Daily and Fleet updates.   No music on the porch through John enjoys listening to the radio on the porch. Every day should be a day to speak kind words.   Poe had a strange mind for sure.  Shrimp pasta sounds good, the cocktail would be so good but I would drink it too fast.  Pass on South African wine, they never have done anything for me.  Great photos of American Samoa.  A beautiful spot.

Prayers for all on our Care list, the citizens of Maui and the people of Ukraine.

We slept late this morning as it was only 38 degrees when I got up, not getting outside really early today.   Yesterday it felt like late fall all day.   I rolled my 2 big tomato plants in containers under our shade sail and after hearing the late news I got three sheets we use to cover our furniture in the winter and covered them too.  After all the babying all summer we are finally getting our first tomatoes.  We will get a lot all at once soon.

Have a lovely Sunday.   Nancy

So many kind words shared here every day!  That’s something to celebrate. Thank you all. And thank you Graham for the link. Love the photos, always. I wish it was easier for me to get to older pix. The Pago Pago market is where I purchased at least one of my South Pacific pareas which get a lot of use as cover cloth’s especially traveling.

@rafinmd Roy, I’m so glad to hear MD Task Force 1 is returning. That is gruesome traumatic work and they need to be relieved by a new team. For families waiting for word of loved ones the work is too slow but it has to be.

I made some good progress yesterday. We got all the credit cards paid or scheduled (almost reset on all the auto-pays after our financial “not-quite-hacking” debacle of June!) and travel notifications in. Online donation to my church done. I now have each of our vitamins sorted into daily portions in snack bags. I have a flu shot appt for today at the grocery store pharmacy while I pick up produce fir the week. And a list of things to do and what day to do them! Made copies of the Mail Hold request so I have that ready to fill out. Got through the toiletries and medicines etc, lots of little things done, and decided on luggage arrangements, I’m feeling better, and slept 7 hours!  The printer is giving the “offline” error so it’s been rebooted with no change but sometimes that straightens out after a day. Neither computer or phone can communicate with it now but I’m hoping. Not going to get worked up over it, the universe will not end. We spoke with granddaughter and her hubby to make a plan or at least discuss the options for our visit next Sunday and leaving our car with them. They are through their bout of COVID that canceled our last visit with them 2weeks ago. They’ve been back to work all week and are tired but ok. And I found and listened to my 2CDs of quicky French lessons. Amazed I found them. It’s a good brush up on the rusty high school French but even my few words have helped us out at times, last time while in Zurich.

@Cruzin Terri your Rome visit sounds excellent!  Planning it is a great refocusing for you to enjoy living life. Holding a vision for you of an Amazing visit to Mayo and safe travels.

@marshhawk I’m so glad you spoke with a doctor about Chuck’s eye and didn’t wait till the followup. That’s gotta help bring the stress level down a notch. One day at a time is Everything!  Glad he got to his mom’s when he did.

@kazu Hoping the storm skirts by you. And same for Bruce, Sandi, Annie and all prepping for possible impacts.

Blessings to all in need, and congrats to all celebrating!  Smooth travels to all away.
Maureen

Good Sunday morning everyone. Thank you for the daily and fleet reports.

It should be a nice day today. I will be listening to church online, throwing dinner in the crockpot (macaroni and cheese with cauliflower), then a Zoom call with my family. I am also working on rearranging and organizing my home office.

Thank you @dfish for the recipes. I want to try some of those, they all look good.

Thinking of everyone on the care list.

Celebrating with all who are celebrating.

Have a safe and healthy day.

Good Sunday Morning Dailyites!  Computer says it's 76, I guess it will be hot...we had a wonderful rain yesterday afternoon!  Absolute pouring!  Wind blowing! Pine cones flying everywhere, and the the sun was shining..it was still pouring.  I stepped away from my work for a moment and went outside to see where a rainbow might be, but I didnt want to stand out in the pouring rain.  I know there was one, but it would have been visible from outside in the front.

I am often tempted to pick up my guitar and sit on the front porch and play.  Maybe the tune from Deliverance??  Wont happen, the wrists are screwed.  My neighbors have a tendency to blast music from their houses, and we are not far from a college where Friday night football games are played.  When it gets cooler, we will sit outside, and listen to the announcers and the bands.  This is not a quiet neighborhood.

@grapau27Thank you so much your  Sunday youtube posts, as I was listening to Father David, I noticed a youtube from Ryberg about the Moment at the Beach.  It said that it was filmed before the beach was closed to the public.  Why was the beach closed?

@Cruzin TerriIt sounds like you are getting quite the tour of Italy while you are there.  I have to admit that our daily events are tiny compared to yours.  When I asked DH could he walk a mile? He said only if he could sit often, so our adventures will be short walking tours from our hotel.  A couple of museums, churches, Sunday Service at the Pantheon, coffee stops, gelato stops, and one day of touring the Coliseum.  And we start out with one day of sleep. LOL.  Best of luck in Jacksonville, I hope you get the respite you need.

@dobiemomI hope you can get some rest today.  I am getting to be a professional at not being able to sleep.  I am either too wound up post the late hours, or my mind goes over what I should have done, said, etc. during sales.Or stressed about knowing what I have to do the next day.  I hope whatever is stressing you and robbing you of sleep resolves soon.  This is why cruising is so good for us.  The only thing I stress over is what breakfast will be.

@smitty34877You are in my thoughts and prayers today.  Hoping your DH has found a food/drink he likes and takes a bit of worry away.

To all of you, you are the best group of friends I have!  You are all earth angels!

The beach is at Ryhope about 1000 metres from the church.

The sea was eroding the sandstone cliffs and the steps down to the beach are dangerous.

Good morning friends!  Well, it's 73 this morning, with sunny skies and 96 expected today.  At least the windows aren't all condensated this morning.  However, I believe we might get some rain tonight.  I should watch the weather what with a hurricane/tropical disturbance coming up from the Gulf.  I don't even know its name yet!

Thank you Rich @richwmn for the Daily and Fleet Report.  I hadn't thought about playing music on the porch but definitely would rather not do that with it being so hot.  Maybe in the fall.  Speak kind words should be everyday!  Hurray for Pony Express Day!  What a job that would have been.  I can't imagine the difficulties involved.  A dark quote from Poe today.  I love any recipe with shrimp and pasta and this will be the second day in a row with those ingredients.  Tropical spice and the Shiraz are fine  I suppose but just aren't to my taste.  Anything that condemns war is fine with me.  Big thanks to Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope, and Ann @cat shepard for their work on food and beverage reports.

I shall take time out to pray for our Care lists members.  Always hoping for better news on that front especially about Lou and Tana, Annie and Chuck, Nicholas, @Cruzin Terri along with her friends and cousin, my DB and my friend's DB Mark,  and Baby Murphy.  🙏  Always good to get positive news from our "family" and wish everyone well along with happy cruising!  DDIL arrived in Frisco safely after an 1100 mile journey, her longest road trip to date (and alone at that!). Going from 70 degree Michigan to 106 Frisco must have been quite a shock.  I hope she can adjust.🥂🎉   A shout out to Dixie @summer slope for her kindness and generosity to me!  😇  Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for the C&C lists and to Graham @grapau27 for Father David's sermons each Sunday as well as his kind words everyday, an example to us all.😇

Pago Pago, American Samoa (Tutuila Island) is our port of the day.  We had that port before on April 5, 2021 and May 27, 2022.  My photos from over 2 years ago disappear from posts so I have to go back and look for them again when that happens.  That is the case today.  I'll post them in a second post.  Here are the links to the former posting dates for your convenience.

Have a wonderful Sunday my friends and stay safe and well.

Thank you for your kind words Sandi.

You are one of the nicest persons on cruise critic and always have nice words for everyone.

DH and I took a 2014 South Pacific cruise on Golden Princess which visited both the capital of Samoa (Apia) and Pago Pago, American Samoa.  One thing I will never forget is the man on the ship who was arrested in Pago Pago for stealing a laptop on the ship.  I always wondered what happened to him.  That's a long way from home to be in legal trouble!

We walked around the town and then had a couple of U.S. National Park Service team members come aboard the ship to give a presentation on the local animals, birds and plant life.  I am sure no other Park Service members wear the garment called a lavalava.  Just don't call it a skirt.🤣

View of the little harbor as our ship backed into its place at the pier in Pago Pago.

The townspeople were all set up on the dock with their tents and local items for sale.  A lot of shopping went on.  Flower arrangements did very well that day.

Lovely photos Sandi of yourself and today's nice port.

We heard of a woman who was arrested on a ship we were on once and there was a lot of stolen goods in her cabin.

She was took off the ship and we never heard what became of her but I have no sympathy for thieves.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I'll get DH to bring his guitar out and play on the deck this evening - the neighbours always enjoy it.  We should try to speak kind words every day; it would make the world a better place  You have to admire the strength of the horses and the stamina of the Pony Express riders as they made their way across the country carrying mail.

It's a beautiful August morning out there today, clear skies and sunshine - but I've noticed already the more orange colour to the morning sun, a sure sign that fall is on it's way.  The mornings are cool, 12C (53F), but the afternoons warm up considerably - we expect to hit a high of 27 (80F) this afternoon, so it'll be a nice day with a bit of a breeze to keep it comfortable.  Sigh, all too soon though, it'll be time to tuck away the shorts and sandals and bring out the jeans and runners again.  Having said that though, we don't have hurricanes, tsunamis, volcanoes, or tropical storms, so I think we're doing well.

Prayers for @DeeniEncinitas and DH for safety from the fire.

Bon Voyage @lobsternight!!

I know I'd like the drink of the day, and who can resist a "sultry" wine?  I especially love wines that say "drink now".  As much as I'd like today's menu suggestion, it's definitely something I'll leave for a cold winter's day when we need to carb load.  LOL  This afternoon we're headed over to our friend Wayne's where he is preparing a barbecue for us as a thank you for doing the legwork (keyboarding?) arranging their flights and hotels for our upcoming cruise.  I'm not sure what we'll be having, but he's a great cook, so I'm sure whatever he serves (especially his garlic laden hummus) will be delicious, accompanied by great conversation.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, especially those in the path of Mother Nature's bad mood.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

My DH loves Westerns.  We just read this excellent book about a man who recently rode the trail himself with his two horses.  Highly recommended.IMG_7761.thumb.webp.a99cb107123c9dba8281a1ef45c9f1f5.webp

Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes.  May your life be good.

I don't understand how someone doesn't know there are cameras everywhere!  The laptop thief was caught on camera.  On another cruise on Prinsendam the man in the adjoining cabin stole scratch off cards in the casino - all caught on camera.  He was arrested in Liverpool.  Tsk!  Tsk!

i see the doctor on Tuesday at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.  i hope we get there and home before that storm hits.

By the way @StLouisCruisers the name of the storm will be IDALIA.  She does look like she is heading straight for us and I hope I am back in my house before anything happens.  It looks like Thursday is our day.  Wouldn’t you know that this the same day the floor guy is supposed to show up. Betcha he finds an excuse.

Terri

I am about 90 minutes South of Jacksonville, but our upcoming storm  impact is very similar.

You may encounter the outer rain bands of Franklin on Tuesday, but any impact from Idalia won’t hit us until Wednesday in to early Thursday.

If you do travel, be safe.

Good morning from central Texas where it is sunny and warm, 88F and feels like 93F.  The humidity is 62% with a dew point of 68F.  Our predicted high will be 101-103F.  Even though I slept well and woke up at the normal time, I was lazy and didn't get out of bed until almost 8:30.  By then it was too late and warm to take my walk.

When I play music on the porch, it is on my iPod and with earphones, so I don't bother the neighbors, but it's too hot today to sit outside.  I try to speak kind words everyday.  Although short lived, the Pony express was a great boon to communications in the western US.

An interesting quote by Edgar Alan Poe.

The meal looks good, but it's to hot for it.  I think I'll grill some shrimp and serve it with vegetable rice and a salad to go with our wine.  We'll pass on the drink and the wine.

We have not been to Pago Pago or any place in American Samoa.

The idea behind the Kellogg-Briand Pact was good, but it didn't last unfortunately.

@kazu  Jacqui, I'm sorry your helper has Covid.  Please don't over do when trying to move things, especially since you have a cruise coming up.  I'm glad it seems like Franklin will miss you except for more rain.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, I'm glad your DDIL made it to Frisco safely.   I think I'd rather made a two day road trip than drive in Dallas traffic.  Thank you for your pictures of Pago Pago.

@daisybertie  I enjoyed your pictures from Pago Pago.  If we ever make it there, we'd probably take the bus like you did.  That's what we did in the Cook Islands.

@Lady Hudson  Welcome home.  I'm glad the cruise was good, and the ship was in good shape.

@marshhawk  Annie, I hope @catmando Chuck's post op appointment goes well tomorrow.  Another suggestion for Rome.  When you go to the Pantheon for church services, the Trevi Fountain is a short walk from there.  There is a great gelato shop right on the corner as you reach the fountain.  If you want to add @Cruzin Terri Terri's suggestion of lunch at the Piazza Navona to the day, you could start at the Trevi Fountain, walk to the Pantheon, rest while attending the church service, and then walk to the Piazza Navona.  We've eaten at two restaurants there, and one is much better than the other.  I don't know about any of the other restaurants there.  Here is a picture showing the location of the gelato store at the Trevi Fountain, and another one of the restaurant in Piazza Navona.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, I'm glad your PMR is better.  Have a safe trip on Tuesday.  I hope the floor guy makes it Thursday.

@ottahand7  Nancy, that tomato looks so good.

Sending positive thoughts that @DeeniEncinitas Denise and David are safe, that there home is all right and that the wildfire has been contained.

Ann,

We are traveling down on Monday and staying overnight.  I have blood work early in the morning but don’t see the Doctor until 4 pm.  Right after that we are heading home.  Hopefully we will not encounter really bad weather on I-95.  Thanks.

Good Morning, thanks for today’s daily report.  Today is cooler and less humid than yesterday so the ac gets a break.  Did a little more weeding this morning. Currently doing a load of laundry that has a few things to be packed.  I plan on finishing getting the upstairs cleaned today and then it’s time to rest.

Morning all. It was cool enough this morning that when I bounced out with the dogs I bounced right back in to grab a jacket. High today again in the mid-70's then supposedly warming to the low 80's for the next week or so. We had some wonderful showers yesterday - the lawn is looking very happy.

I love the meal today but think I would have to pass... just too heavy for me.  Well, maybe a tiny helping. I don't play music on the porch but some of my neighbors do and they are pretty good. There used to be an elderly Navajo man who lived next door. He played the flute. I really miss him.

I have been to American Samoa twice once on the QE2 and the second time on the Amsterdam. Thoroughly enjoyed it both times and am looking forward to a return on the Grand Australia.

Today started off better than yesterday - no dead deer and no bear signs. The bears are starting their winter "bulk up" and will be foraging around for a couple of months. The ladies and youngsters will begin hibernation about mid to late October. The lads will be with us until late November. I am checking the dumpsters to be sure they are properly closed so we don't encourage them. On the animal side of things, I am told that one of our neighbors dogs got kicked rather badly by one of the Mama deer when it harassed one of the fawns the other day. Some of my neighbors just seem unable to grasp the concept of a leash.

Hope everyone is feeling good or at least better today. How is little Murphy doing?

Take care all.

Susan

Good morning all. I hope to see today's port on my next HAL voyage leaving in October.  Thanks for the photos. It was 82 degrees outside at 5am when I was woken by cats playing on my deck. Neither I nor my neighbors have cats so I have no idea where these two came from but they were having a ball jumping off the railing on each other and playing around the furniture.

Good Morning to All!  Thanks for the daily and fleet reports.  Unfortunately, I don't play any musical instrument and don't have a porch BUT Sundays I play Pandora on my tv.  Kind words go a long way and what an amazing feat the Pony Express was.  Edgar, oh Edgar......  The meal sounds good but no to the drink (coconut 🤢), maybe to the wine and never been to the South Pacific.  Too bad countries/governments can't seem to honor the K-B Pact.

Just realized I leave for a cruise in a month.  Not much to do for it as it is just Vanc-SD.  Just a restful one but I will be visiting a couple I met on a cruise who live near Vanc pre-cruise.  @Quartzsite Cruiser I think I have been to that gelato shop!  When I backpacked Europe 3 years ago, I found a shop to the left of the Trevi Fountain on my first day in Rome.  Every day after that, after my walking around Rome, I would head to Trevi F to get some gelato.  Did that 4 days in a row!

Even though it is nice right now (0830 and it is 89F) we are expecting hot weather for the next couple of days (105-107F).  No prediction of rain but we will see.

Thoughts to all of those on the care list and cheers to those celebrating!

Have a great day everyone!!

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily @richwmn.

I can play music on the porch, but inside is better where it's not humid. Every day should be speak kind words day. I'll salute the Pony Express. Typical Poe quote. I like the meal, although carb laden. Lots of shrimp recipes lately. Yes to the drink and to the wine. I haven't been to Pago Pago. An important history day, although sadly it didn't prevent wars.

It's a cloudy day and 70F right now, although the sun may come out later. I'd like to mow the lawn while it's not sunny. After I posted the Cares List at 6:30AM I fell back asleep until 9:30! What was that about, although I didn't go to sleep until almost 1AM.

@grapau27 Thank you and have a good day.

@kazu Sorry your helper tested positive, and hopefully a mild case. I hope it's only rain for you, although that can cause lots of problems too.

@daisybertie Great photos. Thanks.

@StLouisCruisers I'm glad DDIL made it safely to Frisco. Wonderful photos. BFF and friends will be in Myrtle Beach, so hopefully Idalia doesn't do much other than rain there.

@Cruzin Terri I'm glad you're feeling a bit better and hopefully the doctor will have recommendations on Tuesday to get you feeling even better. And safe travels to and from Jacksonville. Your Rome to home trip is sounding wonderful!

@Lady Hudson I'm glad you had a good trip. Now on to the next one!

@marshhawk How is Chuck doing today with his eye?

@Seasick Sailor Thanks for the info about the fire in Kaanapali, and I'll keep Denise and David and all in that area in my prayers.

@dfish Thanks for the recipes.

@RMLincoln Wow, you got a lot done towards your trip. I'm glad DGD and her DH are recovered, and hope their fatigue resolves soon.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers to those Celebrating.

Be well everyone.

Oh darn it.

Sitting and waiting for a callback from American airlines. They changed our seat assignments on Thanksgiving Day. We originally had seats in 8th row from Austin-Dallas-FLL. Now we were given 4 seats spread all over! Not even close to one another. I can't be 12 seats down from my sweet husband, who needs assistance. And it looks like the flight is booked.

Good morning all!

I think today will be our last "warmer" day, up to 81 and then down to the 70's and even 60's.  Fall is definitely in the air, and the days are shorter.

All good days today, funny quote.  I printed off the last recipe for future use (tonight we're having turkey breast).  I like the last recipe because it doesn't have heavy cream.  Like Jacqui @kazu I'm disappointed that the Viognier is a red blend.  White Viognier is one of my favorites. Oh well, maybe next time!  🙂   Will pass on the drink too.  We'll be in Pago Pago on the Grand Australia/NZ and have a private tour planned.  I'm loving the photos!

Jacqui @kazu I do hope Franklin misses you and you "just" get some rain.

Sandi @StLouisCruisers We will also be in Apia.  You mentioned the flowers for sale in Pago Pago, I know they'll have them at the market in Apia too -- which spot would you recommend?  It looks like they sell them right at the dock in Pago Pago?

@lobsternight Bon Voyage!

Nancy @ottahand7 Your tomatoes look great!

I've been awake since 5am 😞 and dragging.  Just could not get back to sleep.

We'll leave on our Celebrity Alaska cruise in 19 days, so I've been thinking more about that.  We haven't sailed Celebrity in 6 years and like all cruise lines, they've had some changes too.  One nice thing, we're allowed to bring 2 bottles of wine on board with no corkage fee.

I'll put off getting my flu shot -- whenever I get it this early I get sick in early, early spring.  If I wait until November then it lasts all through flu season.  Also waiting for the new Covid vaccine to become available.

I hope everyone has a nice day!

Good morning and Happy Sunday from Tucson. It’s currently 90F and going to 104 later. Craig’s DS and her DH arrived yesterday and we had a good visit and meal last night. I had a huge tritrip in the freezer that I had purchased last winter from the mobile bbq truck that frequents our nearby grocery store. So we had that, ranch beans, a yummy corn avocado salad, and bread.  Tonight is smoked whole chicken using cherry wood chips thanks to Lenda and Bruce. Craig is making his famous yummy mashed potatoes.

Joy @Seasick Sailor, I was sick to hear about a fire so close to Denise and David. Prayers and thoughts to them. Also I hope everything works out with your flights.

Have a great day everyone!

I hope you have your ducks in a row when they call.  Have the seat map in front of you and tell them exactly where you want to sit, explain the situation with your husband.  If they are uncooperative HUCA (hang up call again). Remember to cite the ADA. They just cannot do this.  AA is notorious for this and tried this so many times with my DBIL.  We just had to be very adamant.

Good luck.

Terri

I'd hate for you to miss out on a flower arrangement so perhaps the first port you see the flowers being sold, buy there.  I've checked the Apia photos and see lots of tents at the port itself, but didn't see any actual flowers in the photos.  If you're going to Papeete they have lovely arrangements at the Market and outside the Market on the street corners near the ship.  And yes, in 2014 the ladies were selling flowers right there on the dock.  I hope that still holds true.

I agree with what Terri @Cruzin Terri said.  Be insistent and have them move someone else!  Allen needs you beside him.
