Margarita

This is another classic cocktail, but unlike yesterday's, it is still popular.

It probably derives from a Victorian-era drink called the Daisy,  made with citrus juice and orange liqueur along with tequila, vodka, or gin.The word Margarita in Spanish translates to daisy, and today's drink is basically a Daisy made with tequila.

Margarita-FT-RECIPE1222-9b702ddae499477a9878780fafc966f0.jpg.e2050420d2c1c6b352d37c2a14546117.jpg

1 1/2 ounces tequila (should be 100% agave)

1 ounce Cointreau

3/4 ounce lime juice

1/4 tsp sea salt (for garnish)

Combine all ingredients in an ice-filled cocktail shaker and shake for 20 seconds, until frosted on the outside.

Rub the rim of a coupe or rocks glass with a lime wedge and dip the glass into a plate filled with flaky sea salt to rim.

Strain cocktail into rimmed glass.

Southwestern sweet potato stew

Here’s one from eating well that seems easy enough. Another slow cooker recipe. You could, of course, use a heavy pot on the stove top.

This one adds black beans for fibre and protein.

A little bit of heat in this one and coconut milk

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I will certainly celebrate African American Coaches today, and believe that female circumcision is truly a barbarian act.  Lame duck, will pass on that.

We had some good news yesterday - while enjoying our tea and the newspaper in the living room first thing in the morning, the phone rang.  It was the hospital telling us there had been a cancellation and would DH like to take an appointment this Friday morning for his TAVI CT and assessment, rather than waiting till Feb 26?  In less than a nanosecond, he replied yes!  So glad they had a cancellation list and he was on it.  Now that he's going for his tests on Friday, he wants to get his hair cut (getting all spiffed up for the nurses), so that's where we'll be going this morning.  I also have to drop off some seasick tablets to a retired colleague - we can't get them in Canada, and she's leaving on a cruise at the beginning of March.  This morning is our regular monthly breakfast gathering, but I'll be busy driving DH around, so I'll just drop in to say hi and leave.

I was saddened to hear about Toby Keith; while I'm not a country music fan, I did see an interview with him just a few days ago and although he was very thin, he sounded strong and I was hoping he'd have more time with his family.

Best wishes to King Charles - hopefully it's a treatable cancer.

I occasionally enjoy a margarita on a BHB, but really prefer mine to be the strawberry kind.  YAY, a Cardboardeaux!!!!  Yes, I've had it, and it was totally drinkable.  The menu suggestion is looking awfully close to squash, isn't it?  LOL   DH doesn't care for sweet potatoes, so will give it a pass.  One of the small (think really tiny) restaurants just posted on FB that they have their single serving pies available this week - Death by Chocolate, Key Lime, Lemon Meringue, and Peanut Butter.  While we're out I'm going to stop by and pick up a Death by Chocolate and Lemon Meringue that will be our amazing dessert for a light dinner of grilled cheese sandwiches and soup at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, and even for those who don't think they are.  Cheers to all who have something to celebrate today.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

OK on the first two days, but if I had a lame duck I would take it to a veterinarian, preferably Dr. Pol although he is much nearer Debbie than me.

I wonder whether the southwestern stew could be made with butternut squash. Pass on the drink; too fussy and too popular. Actually, I don't understand the current popularity of tequila at all. Black Box Pinot Noir is a mainstay here, because I usually can't finish a bottle of red wine before it starts to go "off." If I wanted one in a bottle, I might choose Dr. Frank's Old Vines, which includes the second-oldest Pinot Noir vines in America.

I haven't been to Manila, but here is a photo of a Filipino business in Alaska.

I taught a class until 9:15 p.m. last night, and my voice gave out. DaVinci wanted to play at 4:30 a.m.

I love Dr Pol. DH cannot watch the show - he grew up on a farm and says his days of looking at the business end of animals is behind him.

Good morning Dailyites from a 39 degree morning warming to 69. No complaints.

Reading about our fellow cruisers on rocky seas and missing ports. Prayers go out to them. Prayers for our ever growing prayer list, Sandi's brother, and my own prayers. What's with the nasty colds hanging around? Prayers go out to King Charles and his family. I hope Catherine's recovery from abdominal surgery is healing.

I am a Toby Keith fan. Loved dancing to his music and hoping there's an artist out there that will do a great tribute to him.

Yesterday I took my friend to hospital for a breast biopsy. Should hear back in 3 to 5 days.

@seagarsmoker I wish you a great start to your new job.

We had the gutters cleaned yesterday. First time since we moved in nearly 4 years ago. The gutters had more sand and dirt than leaves. He said he'd see us in another 4 years.

We are just starting February and I already have spring fever overload. I want to bring all our patio stuff out and even thought about plants as I passed by the nursery yesterday.  Perhaps I need an intervention.

Pass on the food and wine.

Graham booking another cruise! Hmm, wonder where?

Wishing you a blessed day.

Good morning from windy Phillipsburg. Captain warned us yesterday about the winds and we may not be able to port.  We made it into the port but the waves bang against the ship and make it shudder.  Needless to say our ski lift tour was cancelled.  Our friend knows the port well and he told us there is a convenience store near the port so we are heading there.   I had found a large grocery nearby but hopefully we can get some junk food salty snacks at the little store.  Otherwise we will hit the big grocery in St. Kitts.

Thanks for the Daily and maps Jacqui and Roy!

Prayers for everyone on our care list, thanks for keeping this for us Vanessa.  @ger_77 so happy to read your DH got a cancellation appointment.  Prayers for the people in war zones, Ukraine, Israel and the Innocents in Gaza.  BBC just had a bottom line that 17,000 unaccompanied children in Gaza.

For lame duck day. IMG_20240206_085359619.thumb.jpg.2c8fc407fdbf80a8130486f4647cdcd4.jpg

Good Morning from a very windy day at the beach

We have gale force winds and a pounding surf. Waves are predicted to be 18 feet high.  Will stay off the beach today!

I was saddened to hear about Toby Keith. I enjoy his music and he seemed to be a very nice man. May he rest in peace.

Poor King Charles. I hope that his treatments are successful. It shows that no one is immune from that terrible disease.

@ger_77  Good news about the appointment change. Hope DH has good results.

@seagarsmoker  Best of luck with your new job.

Stay safe and enjoy today

Good morning.

Started to post before and lost connection.

Thank you for all the well wishes yesterday.

I am feeling as best as can be under the circumstances.  Still pretty bruised.  Lost a pair of sunglasses in the whole mess.  They are all banged up and scratched.  Ready for the garbage.

Medical Center cost us over $400.  Used the Non refundable SBP for it.

We are in Grenada today.  Scrapped our plans to go to Grand Anse Beach.  We’ll walk over to the mall and hope to find a drug store.  Maybe they will have a tube of Arnica Gel to help promote healing.

Will post more later. Internet is very sporadic in spite of Starlink on this ship.

God Bless you all and thanks again for your concern.

Terri

Sunshine upon us once again in north New Jersey.  Still pretty chilly, barely getting into 40s today but maybe 50 by Saturday.

I managed to get an appointment with new dentist.  I’ll try the one oncampus even though they are out of network for DH’s insurance plan. I requested my x-rays from Maryland, hopefully they can get that done in a month!  It was a bit complicated and I won’t see her till mid March because I’m limited to the days of the week that DH’s eye doctor isn’t in, but it’s done. Next I’ll work on colonoscopy and mammogram which I canceled moving from Maryland, and then a gyn and a dermatologist. If I can get all these scheduled for this year I’ll be back on track. I didn’t get to the pool but we did enjoy Monday afternoon jazz in the commons near the medical center. It’s great just walking over there!  I hope we can keep walking, it’s not like it used to be but I’m grateful we can enjoy life day by day.

Happy to hear @ger_77 ‘s DH will get his scan earlier. And amazing that @superoma’s DH drive home!  Praying for some good news from @smitty34877, @Cruzin Terri, @marshhawk, @JazzyV and others suffering. Waiting on an update on baby Murphy.  Thinking of Melissa @HAL Sailer!
Thanks for the pic of Ren Sandi!
And all the pix of places in the world, fun and food! @seagarsmoker, hoping today is smooth!

Blessings for all dealing with storms, wars, all seeking healing, comfort or hope.

Cheers for all our cruisers as they deal with weather issues and port changes - no matter where, it’s hard to have a bad day on a cruise ship!
Thanks all for being here!  Be sure to Enjoy something today!

Test drove the model Subaru I intend to purchase yesterday. But the dealer doesn't have the color that Sue wants! We will visit a different dealer today that has two in stock, although it is not my intended dealer. My intention is to wait until closer to the end of the month when they scramble to make their sales quota.

Stay Safe, and prayers for those in need.

- Jack

Just a thought, Jack, but if you’re a member of Costco or Auto Club, they do have discount services. Around here it includes Subaru. (Maybe it does in your area too?) When I ordered my Crosstrek I tried both and received email responses within a few hours. Costco’s service were from neighboring counties and 2 of 3 were the same price ( so much below invoice) and the other was higher. The auto club service I had to drive in to what was “”our” long time dealer.”*: their price matched the other 2 through Costco, and they ordered for me, because my trim level and color wasn’t in stock.

We’re having continued rains- not hard, but steady, and the sounds of car tires says the road is very wet. We just got a flash flood warning along with instructions not to drive for the next several hours unless you are fleeing mud or water. I’m betting they mean the freeway and river down the hill. It’s not so much what’s coming down as it is what has come down doesn’t have place to go until more water drains. The soil is very clay and so saturated.

Have a great day everyone!

*oh my, that line doesn’t sound too good, does it? 😳

Good Tuesday Morning Dailyites!  I am not better, and DH is worse, but we are managing.  I plugged in one of the boom box CD players last night, and for the first time in more than a year, fell sound asleep listening to the sound of waves and gentle relaxing music,  once you can slow your breathing to the crashing of the waves, you are in perfect sleep mode.  Except Tazi and Furnando staring brawling, awake again, and then DH thought he heard a car driving by slowly checking out the hood, and he got up, awake again.  It was probably the fluid in my lungs he heard, but awake again...Thank goodness the CD lasted longer than an hour....Because I did wake up feeling somewhat refreshed...look like Hades, but do feel a bit better.

Today I start three straight days of zoom meetings.  the message reads, "you dont have to attend, but I want you to attend."  I will be there, maybe turn off my video, so that my relationship with my kleenex box is not obvious, and we do have to be muted, that will make my cough much less noticeable.🐱

It is not that I dont want to celebrate the days, but the days today,  should we have to?.  I wish the world would explode with all people doing the right thing for all people.  That justice and fair treatment to all humankind erupt like a giant dandelion going to seed in the wind.  If everyone in the world would just ask themselves that one question...Would I want that done to myself?  Maybe the answer would be no, and we would all treat each other as we would want to be treated.

Well I just got the text that its time to print the Hollywood Bowl season brochure, training starts in an hour....

It’s around 6:30 AM and last briefing we were headed back to Papeete but have a feeling we maybe making a run for Auckland. That would be bad for folks on this segment as they would basically just have a sea days voyage! Seeing we left early last night I would think we would be back in Tahiti by now. Three meter seas so ride is not to bad. Just have to wait and see.

Had dinner in dining room and I had a craving for pasta. None on menu. No problem. I had a delicious spaghetti bolognese.

Headed up for coffee and see if I can find out where we are headed. More later. Bruce

Good morning. Why would anyone celebrate lame ducks? I think I am just cranky from lack of sleep.i would try the second recipe but not today. I have always wondered how something as awful as genital mutilation began. It aches my head to think about.

We were unable to get help last night so it was another long night. I am hoping there is another woman available tonight. I worry about the cost and then I face reality and accept it.

@ger_77, I was so glad to read that the cancellation occurred and your DH will be seen Friday. It is important to look spiffy too!

@marshhawk, I continue to worry about the two of you. Please understand that I am taking care of a very sick woman who is sicker with the addition of this latest  problem. I wish you had more responsive doctors down there to help. I don’t know how you keep functioning.
Thanks to everyone for the Daily

We're not celebrating Lame Ducks.  As @grapau27 we are celebrating the enactment of the 20th  Amendment which reduced the time politicians remained in office after their successors were elected.

Thank you for posting today's topics and HAL fleet reports.

Sad to see no HAL ships in Europe.

I'm a little late today as I was booking another cruise.

Prayers 🙏 for my friends who are unwell.

I hope everyone has a happy stress free day.

Bruce, Cruisemapper.com shows you very close to Papeete moving at 11 knots and that is what the destination shows on Azamara Onward.

Eat fresh pineapple - very good for reducing bruising time.
