Edge/Revolutionized Ships---Hmmm---$$$$

I’m obviously one of the few people that actually likes the colours used in S class ships cabins and prefer them to the colours used on the edge. Yes grey is fashionable just now but I believe it will just as quickly go back out of fashion. I find it dull and lifeless when used to a high degree and in the mix used on the new cabins. But of course fashion designers are very good at telling us what we should like.

The latest ad I saw just today on Revolutionizing shows a casino that looks about as conducive to a few hours of game play as a dentist's office. Talk about bland and almost sterile.

Back to the 50's, pretty soon style will be back to almond or avocado appliances.

We finally had to get rid of our Harvest Gold kitchen range.  Caloric is long gone, so no parts available!  But it had two ovens and five (count 'em – 5!) pilot lights that kept the ovens at the perfect temp for raising dough and drying out my newspaper when the sprinklers inundated the driveway.  New stove is all electronic, which means it won't last more than 10 years – it has a 'dough rising' setting on oven which seems to work for dough, but I have to read soggy newspapers.  Progress! – just like Edge-ification???

Harvest Gold and Avocado - Those were the days!

I'm with the OP.  I don't have the slightest interest in the Edge "balcony" cabins and think it was a real mis-step for Celebrity to make them.  I guess it's all about why you cruise.  For us, it's to be close to the sea and I just can't imagine being comfortable in those cabins.  I'm sure they're great for some people and I appreciate innovation just not when it disconnects me from the sea.

But isn't that the color scheme in Eden... plus Rust? My first house purchased in '78 had Avacado appliances and the basement rust colored shag carpet...

No, I already knew that, but there is something called “common sense”. 😉

And in my opinion, the fact she had never taken a cruise would have been a major disqualification for the job. 😁

Oh, earlier I forgot to mention “the easy fix” I told the Retreat Concierge for the sliding ceramics: there is a sticky substance called Museum Putty, or Museum Gel. When a small amount is applied to the bottom of a decorative item it prevents movement. Why was this product not used? Again, just common sense.

I agree on this.   Good stuff for sure.   In earthquake territory it is a must.

Well - I have seen an advance sneak peak at the Millennium deck plans and the iLounge, acupuncture and library areas midship on deck 6,7,8,9 are all GONE and replaced by inside cabins!  No indication anywhere of a new Library space.  There is an indication that the iLounge will be relocated to the unused area on deck 3 between the mid elevators and ships exterior.  Tuscan Grille is being shrunk to closer resemble the Connie and several new cabins will be installed port side between Tuscan and the mid elevators.  Spa and Oceanview cafe areas significant changes and more AQ cabins being added near spa.  Some images attached below

Is there a link to the plans? or an ability to see more?

How long does this referb take ? I think I read a month. We are planning on a Hawaii cruise on April 20th, 2020 out of Honolulu on the Eclipse. The date for her Revolution is April 1st. 2020, Only 3 weeks. I am now wondering if it will be finished or if I should rebook.

Worst case scenario, they would only be wrapping up a few minor things.  We're on the opposite end, March 15 - 30, Chile to San Diego.  Hopefully they don't get too crazy with prep work!

Please Come  back and let us know about any prep work.  I'm also booked on the last cruise of one of the other ships before it goes in for its revolution.

As much as I loved The Edge I have a bad feeling about the whole Revolution makeover program.

It sounds very much like what happened when JC Penny hired their new CEO Ron Johnson from Apple & Target to totally remake the retailer to attract new shoppers. The company board knew exactly what he was going to do which was basically throw out everything Penny's was doing and remake the retailer in one fell swoop. Well you see how well that went! Let's just hope Celebrity isn't going down that same path!

I am not sure it is a fair comparison... You are comparing a declining Brick & Mortar retail industry to an expanding travel experience industry. The future cruisers may not be you and I who have a schema that is quickly becoming history.

April 1 is the date the Eclipse revolution is scheduled to be finished.  So there are actually three weeks of cushion before your cruise.

I cut and pasted those from the travel agent booking engine. There is no published deck plan as of yet that I have seen. Celebrity usually do not release revised plans until after a drydock is complete.

Before I book airfare and hotels, I better make sure that this isn't true, or at least not insane working conditions.  Looking at the sailings, there's only a gap between April 6th - April 10th.

I'm going out on a limb and saying we are going to have doors on the upper shelves above the mini-fridge and drawers.  I started reading this thread this morning and when I came to the link for Celebrity's Revolution website I was very interested in the three photos (which someone later posted and have been discussed).  Someone also noted the "doors" on the cabinet.  Anyway, I downloaded the photos so I could enlargement them and found some interesting information.

The photos are named with dates, and one specifically names Millennium.  The straight on picture of the wall unit is from September 1, 2017, while the other two are dated April 27, 2018.  There are also things you can see in those picture which you cannot see on the website.

1.    N-01C_Typical-Celebrity-Stateroom_TV-wall-Section_30111_2017-09-01_942-2-e1531791281890-crop-1531791366-1257x825.jpg

NOTE: The fridge is on the left and drawers on right.

2.   20180427-Celebrity-Statesroom-Heavy-Scope-Room_Retouched-3-1295x850.jpg

NOTE:  It appears the fridge and drawers have been reversed, and there may be five drawers versus three, but maybe not as wide.  There also appears to be a docked tablet on the desk.  I guess they could treat them like towels, i.e. you take it home, we charge you an enormous fee.

3.   20180427_RCCL-Millennium-Stateroom_Balcony-Room-VIEW-1_300-dpi-24x18-1295x850.jpg

NOTE:  Nice sized nightstands WITH drawers.  Possibly marble tops?

I recall seeing the same pictures you found online and thought the cabin looked quite nice.

Also notice in the top picture, the TV on the wall is not framed, the furniture is a lighter color, and the carpet pattern is slightly different and a lighter color too.

The Eclipse is now being refurbished in November 2020. I'm also on the March 15 Santiago to San Diego with a B2B  San Diego to Vancouver on March 30.

Thanks Koolforkatz, April must have been an older schedule.  All the better.

I was concerned too, Stateroom Sailor, that they might have started the prep on the Chile-San Diego cruise. So glad they changed the refurb date.

Can’t wait for the revolution to hit all the M Class ships. For me, a more contemporary look and feel is kind of a no-brainer, especially for almost 20 year old ships. And, guess what? It’s happening! And, no amount of complaining is going to stop it. So why not lighten up a bit?
