In case we don't have enough vaccine threads thought I would add one.  I think there was one a while back but want to get updated opinions  I know there is already a thread asking who would get vaccinated but a poll will give a better consensus of opinions😇

I will.  I was planning on getting a vaccine regardless.  By the time I qualify there will be a lot of data on its safety and effectiveness.

On a side note, My dad passed away recently and when packing and selling his house I found my old vaccination book that had all of the documentation of what childhood illnesses I had and vaccinations.  It turns out I never had the mumps or  mumps vaccine as it was not developed in the 60/70's as part of the MMR.  It is recommended for international travel, so I eventually will get one of those as well.

My wife and I had Covid back in March and we were recently shown to have antibodies. Yet, we will still get vaccinated as no one knows how long the antibodies last and it will probably become a requirement to fly and to sail.

Most probably we will both be vaccinated before our next cruise comes up this coming November.

DW is a front line immunizer and I am in the 70+ range.

If the mask mandate is in effect as well that will be NO problem as we both are so darned used to them it is second nature.

Yes I will, but it has nothing to do with cruising.  I want my everyday life to return to normal - so many things that are far more important to me than cruising that I either can't do now or are severely limited.

Cruising is nice but unless it returns to what it was pre-covid, I'm not interested.

I won't be rushing out to sail even after I get the shot(s.)

My sister is a doctor, specialist in infectious diseases.  She is anxious to be one of the first to be vaccinated, and I trust her professional judgement.

I will get one ASAP when it is offered to my "over 65 rough, around the edges" body.  😉

Exactly this for me too

As exciting as a vaccine sounds, a) a 'rushed' vaccine, and b) my doc doesn't want it for some period of time...this leads to c) No.

Oh well, since my doctor is specialist in the field and is all for it....plus she is my sister.  My thoughts are opposite of yours.   To each their own.

I think that once the vaccines become pretty readily available it's going to be like the testing with hours long lines.  Never been tested yet myself

I got tested, only because I was flying to Alaska last August.  No problems at all, and thankfully negative.  Yuck though...that chemical on the "q-tip from hell" was not fun for a few minutes.  🤢

Yes, do it! There are phase 3 trials and some interesting positive research regarding COVID and the MMR vaccine (just google).  Not sure if we had one as children so we both got one in the last few months.

Yes, but I'm in no rush. I'm low on the totem pole anyway and once it's my turn, I'll probably wait until the rush is over and to make sure there are no weird side effects, like people start glowing or growing a third eye in the back of their heads.

By the time I get vaccinated, hopefully there will be have several months of successful cruising - on  variety ships and itineraries - that they can start easing up on some of the health protocols.

Side note: having someone plate my food for me at the WJ is one that I hope sticks around.

We all have our own opinions for sure.  My perspective on this is that in past decades when vaccines were developed for yellow fever, polio, mumps, measles the cycle for development would take more than 10 years.  However, this was at a time when there were a very limited number of labs capable of doing this research.  In the interim period, research has exploded and there are thousands of facilities capable of conducting this type of research.  Technology, scientific understanding and computing power have all made great leaps forward.  Add on top of this, the great deal of knowledge on corona viruses gained from the study of SARS and MERS and I don't think this can in any way be described as "rushed."  In terms of doctors opinions, my GP is an anti-vacciner.  I don't agree with him, and we'll get the vaccine at the earliest available opportunity.  But my DW and I are comfortable with this, and I do realize there are others who won't or who will take a wait and see attitude.

As first responders, DW and I will be probably be vaccinated within the next few weeks anyway, so "yes" for us was an easy answer.

While I doubt that any cruise line will impose a "no vaccine/no sail" mandate on its guests, I thoroughly expect they will all mandate vaccination as a condition of employment.

As a side note, depending on where you travel internationally, one or more of these vaccinations may still be required:

Japanese Encephalitis

Typhoid

Meningitis (Meningococcal)

Rabies

Hepatitis A/Hepatitis B combination

Hepatitis B (Hep B)

Polio

Hepatitis A (Hep A)

My wife is working from home today and she is on a call about the vaccine. Basically it's the same news that we have been hearing about and possible side effects and such. They are very positive about it's success. My wife is 51 no underlying conditions. In terms of the employees they are starting with those who work directly with covid patients and working their way down. She said that she will get a notification via MyChart when it's her turn.  I'm sure she will be receiving it before me. Hospital staff have priority over the patients.

Same here and I was anti rushed vaccine for quite some time. Now I just want things to go back to normal, I couldn't care less about the cruising aspect of it right now.

That's my worry, and everyone wanting to be first. Me too lol. I'm hoping they take seniors before they start with folks who think their job makes them special. Idk who is more important though, those actually on the front line like grocery store clerks or seniors at higher risk who have to interact with those clerks.

I can see issues and arguments in the future when there arent enough doses to go around as fast as people want. The date for getting enough doses keeps being pushed back.

We will likely get the vaccine as soon as it is available to us but will have a discussion with our doctors first.  We each are allergic to multiple medications, one reaction was severe, so we are going to be cautious.  The two in the UK who had severe reactions were people with known severe allergies, severe enough that they carried epipens.  We will make sure we get our vaccines somewhere that will have the ability to deal with reactions, not just a drive up location.

I was in no rush to get it, but I will now for travel purposes. I rarely go out now, so it’s not really going to affect my everyday life. I am in the over 65 group, but a healthy senior. I wonder if those that are unhealthy by choice, will try to change their lifestyle habits if they get the vaccine?
